description

In May 2015 I submitted a CSIS Access to Information Request about myself, as a Canadian journalist. This is due, in part, to media revelations that discovered various reporters are facing surveillance in our country, through advanced technology that was first revealed by Ed Snowden and only grew from there. I was a bit surprised to get this result, that indicates my name might appear in a confidential investigations database related to national security, as well as the CSIS media watch program. My work was further distributed to the CSIS executive regarding matters that may require their attention, and I did receive a phone call from a government official at the time of publication, requesting that I amend details in the report (but I didn't oblige). I do not know any reason that could warrant my name being associated with a confidential investigation that the agency can't disclose. I'm also not aware of any reason my name would come up in relation to a Canadian senator's editorial (Hugh Segal), or another journalist from a different publication (Michael Den Tandt). It has however come to my attention that my report about the Canada Pension Plan may relate to Nigel Wright, who is currently embattled with testimony regarding a different Canadian Senator (and former journalist), Mike Duffy. It appears that Mr. Wright may have also represented the Conservative Party Fund, while these dealings with CPP and his Onex company were in progress. Wright was cleared of any conflict of interest upon working for the Prime Minister's Office, but this other relationship wasn't evaluated and only became common knowledge due to the current (albeit unrelated) trial. I make no claims against Nigel Wright, but I present this curious exhibit for consideration. Here are links to the original 2-part series about the Canada Pension Plan, that shares a close relationship with Mr. Wright:Part 1 - http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/amy-macpherson/cpp-war-crimes_b_2487424.html*Part 2* - http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/amy-macpherson/cpp-money_b_2487663.html
