In Mike’s prior life, he traveled the golf pro circuits as Director of Player Relations for Titleist and Footjoy. His job was to build player relationships, and he did it very well! Mike has personal relationships with players, Tour leaders, equipment and apparel companies, tournament directors, television networks, and celebrities.
Mike has traveled to EVERY Tour city and understands unique traditions, cultures, and opportunities at each tournament venue. He can offer “inside the ropes” perspective and knowledge of unique, “backdoor” branding and hospitality opportunities unlike no other.

The TaskThe client hosted an annual golf tournament
featuring key clients and employees. Their
internal staff handled all operations for this event,
working with numerous vendors for various needs,
ranging from operational support to apparel and
gifts. Chisum Sports approached the client to
become their exclusive, turnkey agency for all of
their behind-the-scenes needs for this specific
tournament.

The ResultChisum Sports seamlessly (yet invisibly) integrated into the client’s event team, bringing in
all services and products under one umbrella, at a price that was significantly less than
what the client was previously paying. In addition, Chisum Sports brought new concepts
and fresh ideas to the event that materially enhanced the customer experience.
Subsequently, the client asked Chisum Sports to develop a strategic, year-round, golf-
centric business-building platform, which ultimately included securing a prominent PGA
Tour player as a Brand Ambassador for the client. This included the player wearing the
client’s logo on Tour, being available for the company’s private events with their most
important customers, and providing unique merchandising opportunities.
Additionally, Chisum Sports spearheaded VIP trips to all four Major Championships for the
client, including all hospitality, lodging & transportation, off-site golfing, player & celebrity
appearances, clubhouse badges, and other priceless experiences which other agencies
typically do not have access to.

based, golf-centric platform that would provide

The ClientBased in Stamford, Connecticut, United Rentals is
the largest equipment rental company in the world,
with nearly 900 locations in North America and $6
billion in sales annually.
The SituationAsamassiveB2Bcompany,UnitedRentalsinternally
determinedin2013thatthePGATourmightbean
ideal platform to expose their brand to key decision
makers, as well as entertain their top clients.
The ResultUnited Rentals engaged Chisum Sports to create an introductory
platform associated with the Tour, which included Brand
Ambassadorship of a player. This quickly expanded into further
utilization of the player for unique entertainment experiences,
as well Chisum Sports securing additional PGA Tour players for
similar purposes.
Chisum Sports also created, developed and managed a very
unique private tournament for United Rentals and their clients,
and thereafter provided exclusive representation on behalf of
United Rentals in the negotiation of a sponsorship with the PGA
Tour, which ultimately resulted in United Rentals becoming an
official sponsor of the PGA Tour as their official Equipment Rental
Supplier on a multi-year basis.
The ClientThe New Orleans Hornets (now the New Orleans Pelicans), who had been forced to relocate to Oklahoma City after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Crescent City.
The TaskChisum Sports Vice President John Alper, while working for another agency, was engaged by the NBA and the Hornets to secure a foundation of major long-term sponsorship commitments in order to return the team to New Orleans.
The ResultDespite a challenging environment at the time in New Orleans, Alper worked closely with the NBA and the Hornets organization to create an action plan, aggregate sponsorship assets and develop a tiered hierarchy of sponsorship levels.
In just over a year, eleven major long-term partnerships were secured, generating more than $26millioncashincontractuallyobligated income over a five-year period, providing the Hornets the financial stability, from a sponsorship perspective, to return to home.
