Five undergraduate and graduate research assistantship positions are currently available for research and development work for a newly awarded grant in the Computer Science and Engineering Department.

 The objective of this two year project is to provide

assistance to Texans with disabilities through developing a communication infrastructure along with wireless portable computational devices.

Specifically, we are looking for highly motivated students with interests in the following tools and paradigms:

 1.         JSP, Tomcat, Java, SQL, XML, HTML, Flash, and networking

protocols. 2.         Pocket PC, Palm, and Symbian operating systems 3.         Device drivers, PDA firmware, and hardware design. Example tasks include: Building prototypes, developing modules for

intelligent agents, creating database interfaces, and designing user interfaces.

MCNAIR SCHOLARS ANNUAL RECRUITMENT

Sophomores, juniors and seniors (not graduating before Dec. 2004) who are interested in graduate study culminating in the Ph.D (and a career in university teaching/research) may be eligible for the McNair program. The McNair program offers an array of services, including one summer of paid research with a faculty mentor, designed to prepare students for successful graduate study. Other eligibility requirements are applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, first-generation/low-income and/or underrepresented status, 2.8 cumulative GPA. Call 817-272-3715 or visit
