Evergreen gives a sneak peek at 2014Caving to the sheer popularity
of its European river cruise/tour
programs, Evergreen Tours has
unveiled its 2014 Preview
brochure, months ahead of the
usual release date.
THE preview comes in direct response to
cruiser demand for the Australian companys
2013 European river cruise and tour season,
and sports a grand total of eight of the firms
most popular cruise/tours.
Because demand for our 2013 program has
been so strong, and we are filling up on a
number of our departures, we had a lot of
clients asking if they could see what was on
offer in 2014, Angus Crichton, General
Manager Evergreen Tours told Cruise Weekly.
This brochure is the answer to that demand,
and gives clients
the opportunity
to pre-register
and secure their
preferred 2014
cruises, he
added.
The brochure
includes a range
of itineraries
including Paris toPrague; Prague
to London; a 24-
day Eastern
Europe Tour and Cruise; plus cruises plus tours
visiting Britain and Ireland, the Dalmatian
Coast, Budapest to Rome and a 26-day Grand
alpine cruise/tour.
The Preview release also includes a few
added carrots for cruisers, offering guests who
pre-register and pay a refundable $250 deposit
their 2014 holiday at 2013 prices, and guests
who book and pay their deposit before 31
January 2013 will receive a free cabin upgrade.Discussing the rationale behind the
companys offer, Crichton told CWthat Our
philosophy is to give the best offers out first.
We reward our early bookers, and we dont
do last minute distressed fares, he added.
One of the great things about the preview is
also the ability, if cruisers choose, to swap
their cruise for a different one, should the full
2014 release (due out in mid 2013) reveal an
itinerary they would like to cruise instead of
the one that they have pre-registered for.
If cruisers do swap, they will still receive the
earlybird pricing and cabin upgrade.See your local travel agent for more
information, with the brochure able to be
downloaded at http://bit.ly/EGerc2014.

signaled plans to scrap Nauticas two overnightstops in Ashdod and Haifa (19-22 November)

VISIT London and leave with the jewels.
For over ten centuries the Tower of
London has appeared as an impenetrable
fortress to would-be thieves, however as the
saying goes, appearances can be deceptive.
Recently, one cunning visitor to the ever
popular tourist attraction managed to nab
a set of Tower keys from one of the
landmarks sentry boxes.
The repository of many historical artifacts,
as well as the site of infamous executions
(such as that of Ann Boleyn by Henry V),
and the resting place of none-other than
the Crown Jewels, the Tower is famously
guarded by Beefeaters, who discovered the
burglar after he had climbed the outer and
inner gates, and secured the keys.
Unfortunately for the Beefeaters, due to
regulations, they were unable to leave their
posts and had to radio for help to catch the
would-be criminal mastermind as he fled
the scene.
Back-up however was not particularly
prompt, and the intruder managed to
abscond with the keys.
On the off chance that the thief decides
to come back at a later date and make use
of the keys, Tower officials have confirmed
that they have changed the locks whilst
the police investigate the incident.
Interestingly the event took place on
Bonfire Night (November 05) which is staged
every year to mark the capture of Guy Fawkes
(who plotted to kill King James I in 1605).Carnival cancels Europe sailingsCARNIVAL Cruise Lines has cancelled five Carnival
Legend2013 European sailings, replacing them
with a group of unique departures.
The cancelled EU departures include 25 Sep,
07 and 31 Oct, and 12 and 27 Nov 2013.
The cruise line has not said why the voyages
have been ditched, but has instead announced
the vessel will sail a 15-night Trans-Atlantic cruise
departing New York on 25 Sep; as well as a 10-
night Caribbean cruise from NY to Tampa on
10 Oct; a five-night Caribbean roundtrip cruisefrom Tampa (21 Oct); and an eight-night roundtrip
Caribbean cruise from Tampa on 26 Oct.
Guests booked on the cancelled voyages will
receive a full refund, or if they swap cruises will
receive a $200 stateroom credit for their trouble.

Sun, sail and swim on Sydney Harbour with the CaptainYOUTH have no excuse to be bored thissummer, with the launch of a new Sydney
Harbour voyage from Captain Cook Cruises.
Created to cater specifically to a younger market
of locals and backpackers alike, the three-and-a-
half hour voyage departs
rom Darling Harbour every
Monday, Wednesday and
Friday at 1.30pm onboard
he sailing catamaranAussie
Venture.
CWwas recently lucky
enough to while away a lazyFriday afternoon onboard
Aussie Venture, sipping a
beverage and taking in the sights of Sydney slipping
by as she sailed east to Chowder Bay.
Overall, Venture is a basic vessel and if you are
looking for a five-star voyage, this would not be the
day cruise CWwould advise for you, however if you
are looking to have a fun time and are happy with a
basic but well appointed vessel and warm, friendly staff, then this cruise is definitely well worth a
ry.
In terms of amenities and layout, Ventures bow sports a number of deck chairs to kick-back on,
as well as a music system and plenty of room to spread out on.
Inside there is a window lined party room- replete with a juke box (which, in addition to music, also has an option for karaoke), a bar and toilets.
During CWs time onboard,Aussie Venture was joined by a pod of friendly dolphins also drawn
o the vessel, much like her guests, by a desire for fun and frolicking.
The water mammals seemed oblivious to the ooohhhsss, ahhhs and machine gun clicking of
cameras as they dived in the currents created by Venture, and stayed with the vessel almost all
he way to Chowder Bay.
Once at the Bay however the dolphins were all but forgotten as guests barreled off the
catamaran to enjoy a picnic lunch and explore the secluded cove and beach for just over an hour
before reboarding and leisurely cruising back to Darling Harbour.
The voyage is priced at $69 including a picnic lunch (bar purchases are additional), however at
present the company is running a special $55 introductory offer.

Cuba for Romance and Music
The incurably romantic Caribbean island of Cuba is one of the last
true Communist redoubts of the 21st Century and has captured the
imaginations of artists, poets and musicians for as long as we can
remember.
Cuba is almost always in the news. The legendary revolutionary,
Fidel Castro Ruz, who turned 86 this year, is clearly on a short
countdown until his ultimate term expires. Even with his poor healthand advancing years, the old revolutionary still wields surprising power.
The resilience of the Cuban revolutionary Government has created a
nation that almost stands still in cold war time. With his imminent
passing, and especially since the withdrawal of Soviet aid, Cuba will
inevitably be drawn into the broader world economic community.
Cuba's attraction as a tourist destination is due in part because of
the world's curiosity with this stubborn regime. But Cuba, in its own
right, is a vibrant and exciting destination blessed with idyllic beaches
and fascinating early Spanish history dating back to Columbus. More
recent figures like Ernest Hemingway, Desi Arnaz, Celia Cruz and Gloria
Estefan reinforce the romance and passion of the island. Cuba's rich
musical heritage has reached world popularity with musicians such as
the Buena Vista Social Club and the Afro-Cuban Allstars.Glenn A Baker, popular music historian and social commentator
says, "There is a constant, inescapable sensuality to the entire Cuban
experience. For all the crumbling decay, the tarnished and faded
glamour, and the shortages and sacrifices of a country whose
economy virtually collapsed when the Soviets cut off the drip-feed
more than a decade ago, there is nothing dormant or moribund about
the place.
Take Latin vibrancy and pride, wind it up a few notches with classic
Cuban machismo, stir well with history, intrigue and uncertainty,
garnish with a siege mentality, serve warm with Spanish style and you
have the very core of the Caribbean, its only truly essential
destination.
The best place to relive the Cuban music made famous by the
original Buena Vista Social Club, is Saln 1930 'Compay Segundo' at
the Hotel Nacional.
Fancy a toast to old Ernest? Saunter down to La Bodegita del Medio
in Empedrado Street, in the old Havana district for a mojito made to
Hemingway's own recipe. How do you know this? It's written on the
wall in his handwriting.
While it's still tough for Americans to visit, all that will change
eventually, even though Cuban ports lack the infrastructure to
accommodate cruise vessels of the size Americans like to cruise on.
Instead, small and medium ships from lines such as Fred.Olsen, Hapag
Lloyd, Variety and Voyages of Discovery are among the lines that visit
Cuba from non-US ports. Australians have no such problem visiting
Cuba except when accessing funds, so taking cash is the way to go.
American Express? Forget it.
Most cruise ships will visit Havana, but Variety's eight-day "Sights and
Sounds of Cuba" will also visit Casilda/Trinidad, Cienfuegos (a World
Heritage site since 1988), Playa Giron, Juventud Island or Cayo Largo
and Bahia de Corrientes, ports that occupy most of the western half
of the island. The romance of this forbidden fruit is further enhanced
with the use of their 49-pax, 3-masted schooner, "Panorama".
