Green Class
18 SEPTEMBER 2017
Green class students have had a great term. The students have enjoyed doing a variety of activities, and are continuing to work hard.
All the students join up with Pink class students to do school service jobs on Thursday, taking orders for paper products, restocking paper towels, and doing the laundry and recycling for all of the classes.
On Fridays, all the students enjoy doing social activities together with Pink class students and some students go out on the train to Chatswood, order lunch independently and eat together at the food court in Chatswood Westfield.
Here are some photos of Green class students enjoying leisure activities and going out on Fridays.

Principal’s Message
Welcome to week ten
This week marks the end of what has been a very busy, cold term with a significant amount of sickness present in students and staff. We hope that a break from school routine and the ability to get some rest along with hopefully milder weather will result in a healthier term four. Term four is traditionally busy with the enrolment of new students for the next year, the formation of draft classes, roll over of the assisted travel program, end of year reports, graduation, Xmas concert, presentation assemblies and transition of year twelve to post school settings. Despite these events it is traditionally also a very pleasant term where we celebrate the achievements of our students over the school year. A full range of dates for term four will be published in the first newsletter next term to enable families to mark significant dates in their diaries.
Last week our primary students had a very successful excursion to Bobbin head as a culmination of the theme they have been learning about this term on natural environments. The weather was very pleasant and the students and staff had a very enjoyable and productive time. Photos of the day are published later in this edition.
I have included the final assessment ranking by the external validation panel of our school against the school excellence framework. As you are aware from previous communication this process occupied a significant amount of time and work by our staff and it culminated in a two hour panel discussion to determine whether we had provided evidence to
support our self-assessment. The three levels are Delivering, Sustaining and Growing and Excelling and the panel agreed that overall Cromehurst is assessed as Sustaining and Growing with a ranking of Excelling against the elements of well-being and curriculum and learning. A more detailed report will be available on our website when provided to the school.
I have also included the latest newsletter from the NDIS with a range of information topics, interviews and related videos. Of particular use may be the Q&A section at the bottom where frequently asked questions of the last month are posted with responses. This month there were quite a number of questions regarding the provision of assistive technology and the required processes for including it in your child’s NDIS plan.
A reminder that tomorrow, 19 September is our NDIS information session for parents here at school from 10:00-12:00. The session will be conducted by Local Area Coordinators (LACs) and will cover a range of topics related to NDIS plans including preparing for the annual review process which many of our families are approaching. They will also provide information on the “connection Desk” system which is being conducted here twice next term. If you are able to attend and have not yet responded please contact the school so we can include you in the attendees list provided to the presenters and ensure we have adequate seating.
Finally, I would like to wish all of our families a happy, restful and hopefully healthy break from the school routine. School returns on Monday, 9 October as there is
no pupil free day on day one of next term.

Bobbin Head Excursion PAGE 3
Last Tuesday the Primary classes went to Bobbin Head National Park. We explored the built and natural elements that were found in the park. We went on an adventure down the boardwalk and across the bridge, where we all completed a variety of activities along the way. We enjoyed collecting a variety of objects and made a beautiful poster that we bought back to school. We finished off with a picnic and a play in the park. A special thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us on this fun excursion.

Many apologies to those that were gearing up to come to the picnic on Sunday but there were just too few people keen to come to make it worthwhile. This is the second time that we have postponed this event and it is always hard to find a time that works for most. However I would like to propose that at next term’s P&C meeting we set a date for early next school year to welcome everyone back to school and include the new families joining us next year. Let’s get it in our diaries early and make it finally happen! If you have any other suggestions on activities you would like to see the P&C organise or things that have worked well in other schools that you are associated with we are always happy to hear about them! Email us at [email protected].
The next P&C meeting will be held at school on Tuesday, 24 October from 9.00-10.00am.
Many of you would remember the tragic passing of the Manrique/Lutz family last year. What you may not be aware of is that the mother, Maria, was one of my very best friends. As we all continue to struggle with the loss of Maria and her children we are holding an event on the 14th of October at Event Cinemas Hornsby in their memory. Maria was an amazing mother and advocate for her children and one of her many dreams was to make going to the cinema a possibility for her and her children. This will be what we hope to be the first of many special needs friendly screenings at the cinema and we’d love for you all to come—details are in the flyer on the following page.
Wishing you and your families a restful and restorative school holidays—see you all next term!
