As ThIS ISSUE hITS ThE NEWSSTaNDS, a brand-new year will already be underway. Every January, I am amazed at how quickly another year has flown by as we once again find ourselves on the threshold of a new year full of fresh expectations, exciting promise, and of course, a variety of resolutions that were determined to fulfill.

So accustomed are we, though, to thinking of the new year as a set of dates beginning with January 1 and ending with December 31, that we forget the new year that begins with each new morning. Every single day is a new beginning that is not dependent on calendars and is universal in its availability. Each and every week of a new year offers us no less than seven perfectly good starting points for fresh endeavor, each day no less than 24 hours and each hour no less than 60 minutes.

Yesterday is gone forever. Its events are fixed beyond change and whatever regrets we may have, we must leave them behind. Today is here, tomorrow is before us, and the opportunities they offer are limitless. This includes the many ways we can use our crochet talents to enrich the lives of friends, family and the less fortunate.

Make it a goal to crochet at least one item this year to donate to a charitable organization in your community. More than one would be wonderful, of course, but if many individuals each make only a single afghan, sweater, hat, scarf or pet blanket for homeless, crisis or pet shelters, all added up it makes a very big difference.

In 2007, we each have 365 happy and hopeful new days to make it a blessed, productive and crochet-filled year. By making the most of each and every day, it will indeed be a Happy New Year.

    Warm regards,

    crOchET!A Note FroM the eDItor

WelCoMe to the MoDern age! When I received my July 2006

edition of Crochet! magazine, I was astonished that you would put so many wonderful patterns in one issue! The only problem was deciding which amazing pattern to try first.

A couple of years ago, I started watching the television show Charmed and was admiring all the beautiful cro-cheted tops the characters wore on the show. I thought, If only I could get pat-terns like that. I knew there had to be someone out there that designed those types of patterns, and it gave me hope that someday, possibly soon, crochet would come out of the dark clunky ages and into the modern world.

You have surpassed all my expecta-tions! Thank you so much for renewing my interest in something I love so dearly!

    paT pearce, via e-MaiL

MaKeoVer MagiCI just wanted to say I absolutely love

the makeover Crochet! magazine received with the January 2006 issue. The patterns are so much more up-to-date and fashion-able, this is what I have been waiting for!

I have been so frustrated with issues that come filled with a lot of household and baby patterns. There are so many books available for purchase at stores for those types of items that I cant understand why magazines publish so many patterns for them, rather than stylish clothes.

Finally I can make my own items, such as shrugs, instead of buying them at stores, and they can be very unique and a color of my choice. In fact, there are so many items in the past four issues from 2006 that I dont know if I will have time to make them all. I have seen so many knitting magazines that are mostly

devoted to clothing patterns (adult, not baby) that its nice to finally see a crochet magazine following that idea. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    a Whole lot oF happY!

I am a busy grandmother of 21 grandchildren and a soon-to-be great-grandmother. I love to crochet! Crochet! magazine is a favorite of mine. Every issue contains fun and interesting patterns that I cant wait to try.

The November 2005 issue gave me so much enjoyment! Using Kassie DePaivas pattern, I crocheted Happy Hats for all the girls in our family, plus others for friends. It was such fun using a variety of interest-ing and unusual yarns. Each hat turned out differently, and everyone loves them!

In the enclosed photo, Im the grandma in the front row. I made a hat for myself, too.

Thank you for publishing such a wonderful magazine using up-to-date techniques and yarns!
