Emirates selects Trent 900 en-gine for 50 A380 aircraft.Rolls-Royce announced today that it has received the largest order ever won in its history with the selection by Emirates of the Trent 900 engine to power 50 Airbus A380 aircraft. Skyworld Aviation arranges sale and leaseback of six EMB 170’s

Skyworld Aviation concluded the sale and lease-back of six EMB 170’s from LOT polish Airlines to a global private investment firm. The aircraft are 2004/5 vintage – serial numbers 17000029, 17000035, 17000065, 17000069, 17000073, 17000074. Skyworld Aviation was exclusively ap-pointed by LOT to market their fleet of EMB 170 aircraft, and although all six aircraft will continue in revenue service with LOT some will be offered for sub lease during 2015.

GECAS delivers new Boeing 737-800 to Hainan Airlines

GE Capital Aviation Services Limited (GECAS) delivered a new leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Hainan Airlines to expand the carrier’s fleet. The aircraft is part of GECAS’ existing order book with Boeing. Hainan Airlines is a long-standing GECAS customer and is the largest pri-vate airline in the people’s Republic of China. It operates a fleet of more than 160 aircraft to more than 90 destinations.

Allegiant Travel Company purchase three additional A320 aircraft

Allegiant Travel Company has purchased three additional A320 aircraft. The aircraft were most recently operated by a carrier in Europe and are scheduled to enter the Allegiant operating fleet in 2015. “We are happy to announce another successful transaction to acquire three addi-tional high quality, used A320 aircraft,” said Jude

Bricker, Senior Vice president of planning. “Since the beginning of this year, we have committed to fifteen incremental A320 series aircraft that will be added to our future operating fleet,” con-cluded Bricker.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines acquires two Q400 NextGen Turboprops from Smart Aviation

Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier of Bangladesh, has signed an agreement with Smart Aviation Company of Cairo, Egypt

Joanna Kolatsis, co-head of Hill Dickinson’s aviation team, re-launched the revised document on the first day of ERA’s Regional Airline Conference 2015, held in Rome between 15 and 16 April. She explains: “In an increasingly litigious society airline boards and senior executives need to pre-pare for accidents and incidents and potential criminal prosecu-tion. Failure to take the necessary measures can expose companies to corporate manslaughter charg-es and both executive and non-executive directors need to be aware of their legal obligations.”

Simon McNamara, director gen-eral ERA, adds: “Being opera-tionally prepared for a serious event is very different to being prepared for possible criminal ac-tion. The advice and information in this document explains what the threats are and, more impor-tantly, the measures available to protect against criminal liability exposure and how they can be managed should the worst hap-pen.”

Omni Air International opts for Messier-Bugatti-Dowty

American’s leading charter carrier Omni Air In-ternational has chosen Messier-Bugatti-Dowty Wheel and Brake Repair and Services, the North American subsidiary of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty (Safran), to handle the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of wheels and brakes installed on its Boeing 767 fleet. This exclusive partner-ship, which was originally established in 2009, has now been extended through 2019 and cov-ers all Messier-Bugatti-Dowty equipped 767 aircraft. All equipment will be serviced at MBD Wheel and Brake Repair and Services repair centers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Bethle-hem, pennsylvania.

AerCap executed 104 aircraft transactions during the first quarter

AerCap announced its transactions during the first quarter 2015: the company signed lease agreements for 67 aircraft and delivered 32 air-craft under contracted lease agreements. Aer-Cap purchased 17 new aircraft, including 2 Boe-ing 787-8s, 4 Boeing 787-9s, 6 Boeing 737-800s, 4 Airbus A321-200s and 1 Airbus A330-300 and executed sale and part-out transactions for 20 aircraft, including: 1 Airbus A310-300, 1 Airbus A319-100, 4 Airbus A320-200s, 1 Airbus A321-100, 1 Airbus A330-300, 2 Airbus A340-300s, 2 Boeing B737 classics, 2 Boeing 747-400s, 1 Boeing 757-200 and 1 Boeing B767-300ER from AerCap’s owned portfolio, and 4 Boeing 737 clas-sics from AerCap’s managed portfolio. AerCap signed financing transactions for US$1.6 bn. As of March 31st, 2015, the company portfolio con-sisted of approximately 1,640 aircraft that were either owned, managed, or under contract to purchase.

Air New Zealand selects Pratt & Whitney PurePower engines for A320neo Family aircraft

Air New Zealand has selected pratt & Whit-ney’s purepower pW1100G-JM engines for 13 firm A320neo family aircraft. The agreement also provides fleet management support ser-vices for up to 16 years. Deliveries are sched-uled to begin in 2017 and continue through 2019. The purepower Geared Turbofan (GTF) family of engines has completed more than 17,000 hours of testing, including 4,000 hours of flight time. “Air New Zealand is committed to environmental sustainability and operating one of the most advanced and fuel efficient fleets,” said Bruce parton, Chief Operations Officer, Air New Zealand. “The purepower GTF engine will enable us to not only reduce our fuel burn but also lower our operations cost which is great for our business.”

Airbus’ successful widebody A330 Family has passed the major milestone of winning over 1,500 firm orders from over 100 customers. Total sales to date (1,501) include a recent order for four A330-200 Freighters from Turkish Airlines and 25 A330-900neos from Air Lease Cor-poration. The A330 is one of the world’s most efficient aircraft with best in class operating economics which is why an A330 takes off or lands every 20 seconds and over 1,100 A330 Family aircraft are flying with airlines serving more than 400 airports worldwide. As a result of this success the Family has been extended to include Freighter, VIp, and Military Transport/Tanker variants. Development continues on the A330 with numerous on-going product en-hancements entering service in the coming years, ensuring the A330 Family remains one of the most cost-efficient and capable widebody aircraft. These enhancements include the more capable 242 tonne take-off-weight variant (available for both the A330-200 and the A330-300), the A330 optimised for regional and domestic routes and the A330neo. In the future the A330 will be operating in combination with the A350 XWB, as 85% of A350 XWB customers are also A330 customers or operators. Now building on the proven economics, versatility and high reliability of the hugely popular A330, the A330-800neo and A330-900neo launched in July 2014 will reduce fuel consumption by a further 14 percent per seat compared with today’s A330, making them the most cost efficient, medium range widebody aircraft for the future on the market. To date Airbus has won 145 orders from seven customers for A330-800neo and A330-900neo. The A330 belongs to the successful Airbus widebody aircraft Family, which com-prises the A330, A350 XWB and A380, and uniquely spans the 250 to over 500 seats segment.

UTC Aerospace Systems is introducing the world’s first active side-stick controller for large commercial aircraft. UTC Aerospace Systems’ Actuation & propeller business unit is sup-plying the active side-sticks for the cockpit of the new Irkut MC-21 single aisle aircraft. MRO & pRODUCTION NEWS Bombardier breaks ground on new Business Aircraft maintenance facility in Mainland China

Bombardier and Tianjin Air-port Economic Area have officially signed definitive agreements confirming their joint venture and have com-menced construction of a maintenance facility for Bom-bardier Business Aircraft, to be located in Tianjin, China. Leaders from both sides cel-ebrated the venture with an official ground-breaking cer-emony. The service facility, which is set to open in 2017, is 8,897 m² (95,766 ft²) includ-ing hangar and office and back

shop areas. Bombardier Business Aircraft customers will be able to receive maintenance, re-pair, overhaul, and associated activities and services at the facility. Under the joint venture agreement, the facility will be operated using similar processes and procedures that govern Bombardier’s wholly-owned Service Centre network worldwide. Bombardier currently has an installed base of over 120 business aircraft within the Greater China region.

SIA Engineering Company signs US$2.9bn services agreement with Singapore Airlines

SIA announced the renewal of its comprehen-sive Services Agreement with Singapore Airlines (SIA). The existing Services Agreement with SIA expires in 2015. The new agreement, commenc-ing April 1st, 2015, is for a term of 3 years, with options to renew for 3 years and a further period of 2 years. SIAEC’s support of the SIA fleet cov-ers a broad spectrum of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and fleet management support services. The agreement is expected to yield US$2.6-2.9 billion in labour revenue over the 8-year term.

Avtrade develops component support in China

SmartLynx Airlines becomes latest compa-ny to sign onto GA Telesis composite repair group SNAP program

GA Telesis Composite Repair Group (CRG) has re-ported that SmartLynx Airlines has signed onto and become its latest SNAp customer. SmartLynx Airlines will not only be a part of GA Telesis’ Stra-tegic Nacelle Access program (SNAp), but it will also have 24/7/365 access to flight control surface and other structural pooled inventory to support Airbus A320 aircraft fleet operations. The agree-ment provides SmartLynx with access to a pool of serviceable thrust reversers, inlet and fan cowls and a variety of flight control surfaces for immedi-ate exchange/loan.

Ameco to provide overhaul on a PW4000 engine from A.C.C.L Airmotive Services

Ameco is providing overhaul on a pW4000 engine from A.C.C.L Airmotive Services. It is the first time for Ameco to provide engine service for a Middle East customer. Last year, A.C.C.L signed a contract with Ameco for two pW4000s overhaul services, and the one in the workshop is the first engine. Currently, Ameco can provide engine overhaul on RB211 and pW4000. Ameco is developing V2500 overhaul capability. At the beginning of April, hands-on training on a V2500 was completed. Be-longing to Air China, the first engine for overhaul is expected to arrive at the workshop soon.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Toyota Boshoku Corporation have teamed up to develop new economy class seats in line with the airline’s con-tinued commitment to quality and comfort. The seats will appear on ANA’s domestic service be-ginning June 2015, and the collaboration marks the first time for Toyota Boshoku to be involved in the development and manufacturing of air-craft seats. The project brought together ANA’s experience and expertise in the aviation sector, with Toyota Boshoku’s high-quality craftsman-ship and manufacturing capabilities, which have been refined over decades of experience pro-viding seats for a variety of Toyota’s automobile lines. By fiscal 2016, ANA plans to have installed a total of 1,560 seats across six Boeing 767-300 aircraft. This is in line with the airline’s recent initiative to provide more comfortable seating in economy class.

Jet Aviation Singapore receives FAA ap-proval for the Gulfstream G650

Jet Aviation Singapore has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to provide line and base maintenance to Gulf-stream G650 aircraft. The company also added repair station approval for Thailand DCA. As a Factory Authorized Service Center and Warran-ty Repair Facility for the Gulfstream series, the FAA approval permits Jet Aviation Singapore to extend warranty line and base maintenance sup-port to owners and operators of G650 aircraft registered in the U.S. Since opening its doors last year, Jet Aviation Singapore has performed a 96-month inspection on a Bombardier Chal-lenger, two 4C inspections on Global Express and a 96-month inspection on a GIV, including paint-ing and refurbishing the interior. The company is currently gearing up for multiple 8C inspections of Global Express aircraft later this year.

DAE reports record revenue and net income for full year 2014

Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) reported net income for 2014 of US$159.5m (AED 586m), an increase of 43% from US$111.6m (AED 410m) in 2013. Revenue for full year 2014 increased to US$2.112m (AED 7,761m) from US$2.105m (AED 7,735m) for full year 2013. DAE Managing Director Khalifa H. Airbus selects Korean Air Aerospace to manufacture Sharklet wingtips for the A330neo Family

Korean Air Aerospace Division (KAL-ASD), the aero-space manufacturing division of the Korean Air Group, has been selected by Airbus to supply new Sharklet wingtip devices including a wingspan ex-tension for the A330neo – the new variant of the best-selling A330 Family of wide-body aircraft. Un-der the terms of the agreement, KAL-ASD will man-ufacture the new composite wingtip devices at its Busan facility in South Korea, and supply them to the A330 Family final assembly line in Toulouse. Inspired by the curved wingtips on the A350 XWB, the A330neo’s devices will increase overall wing-span from the 60.3m of today’s A330ceo to 64m, while conferring increased lift with reduced drag. Along with the A330neo’s latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, these new wingtips plus other aerodynamic enhancements and new cabin features will enable the aircraft to achieve an over-all 14% reduction in fuel burn per seat compared with A330ceos in service today.

Ducommun wins multiyear contract from Rolls-Royce for Trent 1000-TEN aircraft engine

Ducommun Incorporated has been selected by Rolls-Royce to produce complex interconnect sys-tems for the Trent 1000-Ten engine – which will power all variants of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Ducommun will manufacture these products through 2022 at its operation centers in Joplin, Mo. and Guaymas, Mexico. The Trent 1000-TEN engine, scheduled to be certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) before the end of 2015, incorporates proven, next-generation tech-nology from the latest member of the Trent en-gine family, the Trent XWB, to produce a superior engine for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It will have more thrust and efficiency, offering up to a three percent reduction in fuel consumption compared with the current Trent 1000 standard.

FLY Leasing re-prices US$452m 2012 term loan

FLY Leasing, a global leader in aircraft leasing, re-priced its 2012 Term Loan. The interest rate on the amended loan will be LIBOR plus 2.75%, a 0.75% reduction from the previous margin. In addition, the LIBOR floor will be reduced from 1.00% to 0.75%. As of December 31st, 2014, the facility had an outstanding principal balance of US$451.5m and financed 29 aircraft. The transaction is antici-pated to close before the end of April 2015, subject to customary closing conditions.

AeroCentury reports profitable first quarter 2015

AeroCentury, an independent aircraft leasing com-pany, reported its unaudited operating results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. In the first quarter of 2015, net income was US$0.8m com-pared to net income of US$0.4m for the first quar-ter of 2014. Total revenues were US$8.6m for the first quarter ended March 31st, 2015, compared to total revenues of US$8.0m for the same period a year ago. Operating lease revenues increased 10% in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same period a year ago, primarily because of operat-ing lease revenue from aircraft purchased during 2014. the 2014 period, but off lease in the 2015 period and asset sales during 2014. Total expenses were approximately the same in the first quarter of 2015 as compared to the same period in 2014. Depre-ciation increased 25% in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same period a year ago, primarily as a result of asset purchases in 2014. Interest ex-pense increased 44% in the 2015 period, primarily as a result of increased amortization of debt issu-ance costs. Maintenance costs on the Company’s off-lease aircraft decreased 41% in the first quarter of 2015 period compared to the same period of 2014, as a result of lower expense to prepare air-craft for re-lease.

Safran posts first-quarter 2015 adjusted rev-enue growth of 14.3%

Safran reported that first-quarter 2015 adjusted revenue was €3,935m, up 14.3% year-on-year in-cluding significant positive currency impacts main-ly due to the considerable strengthening of the USD. The average USD/EUR spot rate in Q1 2015 was 1.13 compared with 1.37 a year ago. Adjusted revenue growth was 3.4% at constant currency or 2.4% on an organic basis. Organic revenue growth was driven by continued momentum in Aerospace services and Security activities. Civil aftermar-ket grew 17.8% in USD terms, and continues to be driven by first overhauls of recent CFM56 and GE90 engines. Full-year 2015 outlook is confirmed: Safran expects adjusted revenue to increase by a percentage in the high-single digits (at an esti-mated average rate of US$ 1.20 to the Euro) and adjusted recurring operating income to grow yet again significantly in low double digits compared to 2014 at a hedged rate of US$ 1.25 to the Euro. Free cash flow is expected to represent 35% to 45% of adjusted recurring operating income, an element of uncertainty being the amount of advance pay-ments and the rhythm of payments by state clients.

Boeing reports strong first-quarter results

Boeing reported first-quarter revenue increased 8% to US$22.1bn on higher commercial deliveries. Core earnings per share (non-GAAp) increased 12% to US$1.97, reflecting strong performance across the company, and GAAp earnings per share was US$1.87. Net earnings increased 38%. The Compa-ny reaffirmed its 2015 financial and deliveries guid-ance. Cash and investments in marketable securi-ties totaled US$9.6bn at quarter-end, down from US$13.1bn at the beginning of the year, primarily due to the share repurchases and timing of cash flows. Debt was US$9.0bn, down from US$9.1bn at the beginning of the year. Total company backlog at quarter-end was US$495bn, down from US$502bn at the beginning of the year, and included net

orders for the quarter of US$15bn. Commercial Airplanes first-quarter revenue increased 21% to US$15.4bn on higher delivery volume and mix. First-quarter operating margin was 10.5%, reflect-ing the dilutive impact of higher 787 deliveries. During the quarter, Commercial Airplanes captured orders for 52 737 MAX airplanes. The 737 program has won over 2,700 firm orders for the 737 MAX since launch. Also during the quarter, the company opened a new propulsion Systems facility at Boe-ing South Carolina that will initially support the 737 MAX and 777X, delivered the first Boeing South Carolina-built 787-9 Dreamliner and received 330-minute ETOpS certification on the 747-8 Inter-continental. Commercial Airplanes booked 110 net orders during the quarter. Backlog remains strong with over 5,700 airplanes valued at US$435bn.

Southwest Airlines’ first quarter net income nearly triples

Southwest Airlines reported record first quarter net income of US$453m which included US$2m (net) of favorable special items, compared with first quarter 2014 net income of US$152m, which included US$26m (net) of favorable special items. First quarter 2015 total operating revenues in-creased 6.0% to US$4.4bn, on a 6.0% increase in ASMs, both compared with first quarter 2014, which resulted in operating unit revenues compa-rable to first quarter 2014. The growth in total op-erating revenues was largely driven by strong first quarter 2015 passenger revenues of US$4.2bn. Total operating expenses in first quarter 2015 de-creased 8.0% to US$3.6bn, compared with first quarter 2014. During first quarter 2015, the Com-pany incurred costs (before profit-sharing and taxes) associated with the acquisition and integra-tion of AirTran of US$23m and recorded a US$37m (before profit-sharing and taxes) reduction to other operating expenses related to a favorable litiga-tion settlement, both of which are special items. Excluding special items in both periods, total op-erating expenses in first quarter 2015 decreased 7.1% to US$3.6bn, compared with first quarter 2014. Operating income in first quarter 2015 was a first quarter record US$780m, compared with US$215m in first quarter 2014. Excluding special items, operating income was a first quarter record US$770m in first quarter 2015, compared with US$242m in first quarter 2014.

Alaska Air Group reports first quarter net income of US$149m

Alaska Air Group posted first quarter 2015 GAAp net income of US$149m compared to US$94m in the first quarter of 2014. Excluding the impact of mark-to-market fuel hedge adjustments, the company reported record adjusted net income of US$149m compared to adjusted net income of US$89m in 2014.

B/E Aerospace reports first quarter 2015 fi-nancial results

B/E Aerospace reported first quarter 2015 rev-enues of US$690m, an increase of 7.0% as com-pared with the prior year period (revenues in-creased 7.7 percent adjusting for the impact of Euro denominated sales). In addition, revenues from the Company’s Russian customers were severely impacted by geopolitical and macro-economic forces, and demand from defense customers was also weak. Excluding sales to Russian and defense-related end markets and adjusting for negative impact from currency, revenues increased 10.1%. Operating earnings of US$125.7m increased 10.1%, and operating margin of 18.2% expanded 50 basis points. On a GAAp basis, operating earnings increased 14.2%. First quarter 2015 net earnings and net earnings per diluted share were US$77.6m, representing increases of 21.3%, as compared with the prior year period. On a GAAp basis, net earnings and earnings per diluted share increased 22.8% and 21.3%, respectively.First quarter 2015 commercial aircraft segment (“CAS”) revenues of US$526.1mn were negatively impacted by a significant decline in sales to Rus-sian and defense end markets. Exclusive of the aforementioned factors and adjusted for negative impact from currency, CAS revenues increased 2.9%. Operating earnings of US$98.4m increased 5.7%, and operating margin of 18.7% increased 90 basis points as a result of favorable product mix including higher aftermarket revenues.First quarter 2015 business jet segment (“BJS”) revenues of US$163.9m increased 35.2%. Rev-enue growth was driven by higher sales of super-first class products and acquisitions. BJS revenues excluding the impact of acquisitions increased 8.9%. Operating earnings increased 29.4% to US$27.3m, and operating margin of 16.7% reflects increased investment in develop-ing additional new, highly innovative, bespoke product offerings.

UAL reports first-quarter 2015 profit of US$582m

United Airlines (UAL) reported first-quarter 2015 net income of US$582m, excluding US$74m of special items. Including special items, UAL reported first-quarter net income of US$508m. These results are a record first-quarter profit for the company. For the first quarter of 2015, total revenue was US$8.6bn, a decrease of 1.0% year-over-year. First-quarter consolidated passenger revenue increased 0.5% to US$7.4bn, compared to the same period in 2014. Ancillary revenue per passenger in the first quarter increased 8.6% year-over-year to more than US$23 per passenger. First-quarter cargo revenue grew 15.8% year-over-year to US$242m. Other revenue in the first quarter decreased 14.2% year-over-year, mostly due to the reduction in sales of fuel to a third party.

Boeing-built CH-147F maintenance train-ing center opens in Canada

In 2013 and 2014, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) took delivery of 15 new Boeing-built CH-147F Chinook helicopters, among the most ca-pable and advanced variants of the legendary Chinook family. Now, the RCAF and Boeing have unveiled an equally advanced training facility for those helicopters. The Medium-to-Heavy Lift Heli-copters (MHLH) Maintenance Training Center at Garrison petawawa, Ontario is a world-class facil-ity that has already begun enhancing the skills of maintenance personnel responsible for the readi-ness and support of the RCAF’s CH-147F fleet. The formal grand opening comes shortly after an initial class of eighteen technicians graduated from the center’s first RCAF-led training courses. On June 30th, 2014, Boeing celebrated delivery of the 15th CH-147F to the RCAF, completing the MHLH order on budget and ahead of schedule. Boeing training and support have been essential elements of the MHLH program from its beginnings.

AAR awarded new contract from Bell Hel-icopter Textron to provide logistics sup-port for T64 engines

Bell Helicopter Textron (“Bell Helicopter”) awarded its AAR’s Defense Systems & Logis-tics (DS&L) business unit a contract providing warehouse and logistics services in support of upgrading T64 engines for the Bell V-280 Valor technical demonstrator aircraft. The two-year agreement is the first between the global aer-ospace and defense contractor AAR and Bell Helicopter, producer of commercial and military aircraft. AAR will support this effort from its lo-gistics operation located in Havelock, N.C. The Bell V-280 Valor is a third-generation tiltrotor aircraft participating in the U.S. Army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) program. The V-280 Valor de-sign was selected by the U.S. Army for the Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator (JMR-TD) phase to serve as a precursor to FVL, a program which will create the next generation of vertical lift aircraft for the U.S. military. Bell Helicopter anticipates using a version of the Future Afford-able Turbine Engine (FATE) in the production ver-sion of the V-280 Valor.

• Cabot Aviation has hired Sebastian Tay-lor as Regional Sales Manager. Sebastian started his aviation career working for a leading air charter broker and joins Cabot to assist with its aircraft remarketing work. He is based at Cabot’s UK office. Cabot also announced that Howard Richardson has retired after several very successful years remarketing aircraft.

• Rolls-Royce has released that John Rishton has decided to retire as Chief Executive on July 2nd, 2015. He will be succeeded by Warren East, whose appointment follows an extensive international search. Warren East was CEO of ARM Holdings from 2001 to 2013. Under his leadership ARM became one of the world’s leading developers of semi-conductors with an outstanding record

of innovation and a strong commitment to R&D. Warren has been a Non-Executive Di-rector of Rolls-Royce since January 2014.

• Bombardier Com-mercial Aircraft announced the ap-pointment of Colin Bole as its new Sen-ior Vice president, Sales and Asset Management, effec-tive mid-May, 2015. prior to joining

Bombardier, Mr. Bole was Chief Commercial Officer at Intrepid Aviation, a leasing com-pany, and spent four years at International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) where he was successively Senior Vice president & Head, Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Head of Asia-pacific.

• Wesco Aircraft, a provider of comprehen-sive supply chain management services to the global aerospace industry, has appoint-ed Richard J. Weller as executive vice presi-dent and chief financial officer, effective May 4th, 2015. Mr. Weller succeeds Greg-ory A. Hann, who retired on March 3131, 2015. K. Lynn Mackison, who is serving as acting chief financial officer in the interim period, will continue as vice president and global controller, a position she has held with the company since January 2015.
