Transcript of Crescendo tech project 2012
Through our precision in engineering alongside our experience and passion in Team Crescendo, our aim is to do our best and try to win this competition. We wish to deliver and make a high quality project in design and engineering a F1 car. We want to reach our full potential and use this to achieve an excellent high quality Formula 1 car. We hope to learn a lot about teamwork, engineering, design and F1 throughout the experience while having fun along the way.
Chanice Corcoran
I am the Manufacturing Engineer. My job is in making the car. I am also the Design Engineer, along with another team member.

I am the Design Engineer. I am responsible for designing the car. I am also in charge of the styling and aero-dynamics of the car.
Aerodynamics:A Formula One race car is defined as much by its aerodynamics as it is by its engine. This is because any vehicle moving at high speed must be able to do two things well:
Decrease air resistance: Formula Onecars are low and wide to decrease air resistance.
Increase down force: Wings, a diffuser, end plates and barge boards increase down force.
Physics:Top speed our car could reach? How could it slow down? How could we increase speed and acceleration? What is aerodynamics?Does the mass effect the speed, how and why?
Wheel Materials:-A material that is strong, light but also not hard to machine and manufacture.
-Axel Bearings also have to be taken into account when building the car.
The Wheels:
These are the two types of wheels we could possibly use:Alloy wheels can be constructed to very minimal weights, as alloying materials such as aluminium and magnesium can be used. They lack the dent resistance of steel wheels. An alloy wheel, when struck by a curb will sometimes shatter, and possibly worse, crack.Steel wheels can also be constructed to amazingly low weights. Steel wheels are deformable when struckand will usually allow air to leak out ofthe tire, as opposed to shattering. NASCAR and the general stock car scene use steel wheels due to the extreme forces encountered by 2 ton cars.

I am the Marketing Manager; my role in the team is to be in charge of all the finance, talking to the media and gaining sponsors, fundraising, etc.
Alanna Dunne
I am the team and resource manager, my job is to organise and lead our team and to make all final decisions. As resources manager, I have to organise time, materials and equipment.
Emma Marugliano
I am the Graphic Designer; I have to create the team’s logo and identity.
The Bearings: Steel Hybrid Ceramic- We had to research which was the best. We feel that ceramic would be best.
to see what works and what doesn’t. We are designing it so that the car will have an almost smooth and flat surface. This will cause a smooth air flow avoiding air pressure to build up. Chanice created the visual displays of our car design.
Birds eye view
If we were to get further in the competition we would increase our designs and ideas for the car to make it the best it can possibly be. The car is shaped like a missile. The wheels are recessed into the side of the car and the centre covered to reduce drag. The wing is integrated into the rear of the car , this is to increase down force.
