While Group 1 certainly experienced better weather conditions than Group 2, the students all had a fantastic time, with many keen to fill me in on their favourite part – be it ice-skating, touring Etihad Stadium or simply riding the train! I would like to thank our parent helpers Joel Ioutua, Hailey Van Roest, Kylie Sinclair, Mirabel Pepito, Belinda Kind and Bek Pobjie as well as Mrs Taylor, Mr Nye, Miss Bonnamy, Miss Van Bakel, Mr Shaw, Miss Deng, Miss Hogan, Miss Carter and Miss Naismith for volunteering to attend and giving up time away from their own families. Camps are lots of fun and are wonderful learning and life experiences for students but this would not be possible without the willingness and dedication of staff and parent helpers. We also celebrated Mother’s Day at school last Friday with our Mother’s Day Stall and Afternoon. I would like to thank Roz Coles and all of the parent helpers that came along to assist with the Stall. We had a myriad of helpers selling and wrapping gifts and it is always such a pleasure to see the enjoyment the students get out of choosing their own gifts for Mum! We finished off the day with a Mother’s Day Afternoon where lots of Mums, Grandmothers and other family members spent some time in class with the students undertaking some special activities together. It was a wonderful turn-out and I thank Mrs Sarah Dunmall and the Special Events team for their work in putting this event together. We hope all our CEPS Mums had a wonderful Mother’s Day! This week sees our Year 3 and 5 students completing NAPLAN (The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy). Students complete a series of four tests throughout the week on reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. NAPLAN tests assess literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life and provide schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are meeting important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy. Parents will receive an individual report on their child’s NAPLAN achievement later in the year. It has been wonderful to see many members of our school community enjoying the opprtunity to grab themselves a nice warm coffee, tea or hot chocolate from the coffee van on these chilly mornings, however a reminder that for safety reasons, no primary school students should be entering the carpark area to purchase hot chocolates without a parent or guardian present. The school has begun taking Prep enrolments for 2019. If you have a child starting school next year or know someone that has, please contact the school office as soon as possible for enrolment information or to book a school tour.
