Les jonctions triples :
• Point où 3 plaques lithosphériques se rejoignent
• Croisement des frontières de plaques qui peuvent être de natures différentes (R pour Ridge, T pour Trench, F pour transform Fault)
• Suivant les propriétés des frontières, le point peut être stable (immobile) ou instable

La jonction triple des Galapagos :
• Non pas une, mais 2 jonctions triples (une stable au Sud, et un instable au Nord)
• La Microplaque Galapagos tourne sur elle-même (7° depuis 0,5 Ma)
• Un rift éteint
• Un escarpement à l’Est, avec un fort dénivelé
