Course ObjectivesAfter completing this course, the participant will beable to:

1. Describe the etiology, risk factors, pathophysiology, and treatment of the following: schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, neurological disorders, psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents, anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, substance use disorders, bipolar disorders, developmental disorders, psychiatric disorders in the elderly, eating disorders, personality disorders, seizure disorders, and depression.2. Identify common signs and symptoms based on the DSM IV-TR criteria, the presentation, and clinical course of the above named psychiatric disorders.3. Resolve drug therapy problems by modifying the pharmacotherapeutic plan and developing an appropriate monitoring plan for people with the above named disorders. 4. Outline a plan to prevent or manage adverse reactions and drug-drug interactions for patients receiving pharmacologic treatment for the above named disorders. 5. Provide appropriate patient and family counseling for people with mental illness and assist patients in identifying ogranizations that provide support and advocacy.

6. Evaluate and interpret the biomedical literature to enhance the pharmacotherapy of patients withpsychiatric and neurologic conditions.

7. Describe the roles of regulatory organizations andhow they affect psychiatric and neurologic pharmacypractice and the standards of patient care.

Course ObjectivesAfter completing this course, the participant will beable to:

1. Describe the etiology, risk factors, pathophysiology, and treatment of the following: schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, neurological disorders, psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents, anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, substance use disorders, bipolar disorders, developmental disorders, psychiatric disorders in the elderly, eating disorders, personality disorders, seizure disorders, and depression.2. Identify common signs and symptoms based on the DSM IV-TR criteria, the presentation, and clinical course of the above named psychiatric disorders.3. Resolve drug therapy problems by modifying the pharmacotherapeutic plan and developing an appropriate monitoring plan for people with the above named disorders. 4. Outline a plan to prevent or manage adverse reactions and drug-drug interactions for patients receiving pharmacologic treatment for the above named disorders. 5. Provide appropriate patient and family counseling for people with mental illness and assist patients in identifying ogranizations that provide support and advocacy.

6. Evaluate and interpret the biomedical literature to enhance the pharmacotherapy of patients withpsychiatric and neurologic conditions.

7. Describe the roles of regulatory organizations andhow they affect psychiatric and neurologic pharmacypractice and the standards of patient care.
