Cox Target Media’s(CTM) ValpakDivision is preparing
to occupy their newmanufacturing center locatedjust to the West of I-275 inSt. Petersburg betweenRoosevelt Boulevard andGandy Boulevard. CTM’s parent company, Cox Enterprises, isheadquartered in Atlanta and is a Trane National Account.Valpak produces the familiar blue savings envelope that we allreceive regularly in the mail.
The Austin Company, of Cleveland, OH, was both the DesignEngineer and Construction Manager. BCH Mechanical installedthe complete air conditioning system.
The building’s HVAC is all Trane...except for the portions thatutilize specialty HVAC products of other vendors, all of whichwere represented by Georgia Trane and Tampa Bay Trane.
The core system consist of three (3) 750 ton Trane Centravacs,1 Cold Generator Chiller, 11 Modular Climate Changer AHU’s,2 Dedicated Outdoor Air Units, 7 Variable Speed Drives and
approximately 50 Trane VAV boxes. Of course, the systememploys factory mounted controls and Trane Tracer Summitstarts, stops and maintains comfort conditions throughout thefacility. Several areas of the building required specialapplications products. Five large Johnson Air Rotation unitswere employed to enable the owner to maintain uniformtemperature gradients throughout the production area withouthaving to give up critically needed floor or ceiling space to ductwork or equipment.
And just what is the purpose of the tall, narrow tower-likestructure on the north side of this new facility...we were curioustoo. Turns out this area houses Valpak’s sophisticatedwarehouse system, referred to as the ASRS or AutomatedStorage and Retrieval System. The building is strong too. It’sbeen built to withstand a minimal Category 4 hurricane.
