Course Overview

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia proudly presents the 11th Annual – Topics Explored: Pediatric Surgical and Trauma Nursing Conference. The format for this two-day program will be general lecture with afternoon concurrent sessions. The content options will be applicable to all levels of Nursing expertise. Expert faculty will share the lessons they have learned from managing children who experience unexpected illness and traumatic injury. Rejuvenate your practice and learn how you can continue to make a difference at the hospital bedside one family at a time.

General Information

The conference will be held Thursday, Nov. 14 and Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Main Building, First Floor, in the Stokes Auditorium. Registration will begin each day at 7:30 a.m. The registration fee for both days is $195. The registration fee for one day is $120. Registration fees include continental breakfast, breaks, meal vouchers and conference materials.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this two-day course, participants will be able to:

• Identify challenges that face healthcare team members caring for this pediatric patient population

• Review current treatment and technologic advances relevant to the care of children with surgical and trauma related needs

• Discuss the impact that trauma and surgical interventions can have on the physical and emotional future of the pediatric patient

• Discuss the acute care management of intestinal atresia, challenging pediatric wounds, caring for vulnerable children in Guatemala, children who have experienced sexual assault, shock, backyard traumas and more

Nursing Accreditation Statement

This activity has been submitted to the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) for approval to award contact hours. PSNA is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Call for Abstracts

The Course Directors and Planning Committee invite you to submit an abstract for consideration for the Poster Session held during the conference. Share your knowledge and experiences on Surgical and Trauma Nursing trends. Topics may include: best practices in Nursing procedures, new approaches to patient teaching, coordination of patient care, process improvement projects, use of new patient care products or research findings and outcomes. Research in process or previously presented posters are welcome.

The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, Sept. 6, 2013. Accepted abstracts will be published in the conference syllabus. One gratis registration will be awarded per poster selected. Requests to submit an abstract are to be directed to Mary Jo Pedicino, R.N., M.S.N., at [email protected].
