Current Status of Water Resource
• Public water supply relies solely on surface water resources under 4 main water supply systems
• River Catchment covers 75% (3,425 sg.km) of country’s land
• 77% is for domestic and commercial use, 18% for oil and gas industry and 5% for irrigation
• Consumption per capita is about 450 l/c/d and % NRW is 33%
![Page 34: COUNTRY REVIEW BRUNEI DARUSSALAM SPECIAL SEMINAR ON …](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022012005/61d93d6acc4714528e0accc2/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
WATER MANAGEMENT
• Most agriculture areas in Brunei are rain-fed.
• Irrigation system currently being developed for Brunei Muara district. Can supply 1800 Ha upon completion.
![Page 35: COUNTRY REVIEW BRUNEI DARUSSALAM SPECIAL SEMINAR ON …](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022012005/61d93d6acc4714528e0accc2/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
WATER MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES
• Natural water resources far from agriculture land.
• Limited options for water catchment areas for agriculture.
• High cost for irrigation development
• Land is Acid Sulphate mostly. Needs proper irrigation and drainage system in order to flush and make area suitable for crop production.
![Page 36: COUNTRY REVIEW BRUNEI DARUSSALAM SPECIAL SEMINAR ON …](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022012005/61d93d6acc4714528e0accc2/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
CURRENT IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT IN BRUNEI MUARA DISTRICT
![Page 37: COUNTRY REVIEW BRUNEI DARUSSALAM SPECIAL SEMINAR ON …](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022012005/61d93d6acc4714528e0accc2/html5/thumbnails/37.jpg)
SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
• Integrated Pest Management – CABI Collaboration.
• Soil management- acid sulphate soil in Brunei is very common. A major hindrance for rice production.
![Page 38: COUNTRY REVIEW BRUNEI DARUSSALAM SPECIAL SEMINAR ON …](https://reader031.fdocuments.in/reader031/viewer/2022012005/61d93d6acc4714528e0accc2/html5/thumbnails/38.jpg)
