DCHSA 2020 Commencement Count Down Checklist Registration Opens November 1, 2020 Registration Closes March 1,2020 Checklist: Here are some things to start thinking about! Order or borrow your cap and gown – DO THIS NO LATER THAN MARCH 1 Gather your photos for the 2 (two) PowerPoint presentations-see below Get a tri-fold board and start assembling your table items o Project header boards are a great way to identify your name so guests can find your table o This is your chance to show who you are o Your awards, special projects, your photography, whatever you enjoy, art/science, decorate one half of a very large round table. o We provide the black linen tablecloth; you may bring a colored cloth to enhance your half of the table, balloons, streamers, certificates, scholarships, etc. o NO GLITTER! If you received a scholarship or special award, be sure to list that in the bio for the program. Senior photos fall or early spring (optional) Order or create your invitations (Optional) Order or create your diploma (A padded diploma cover is included in most graduation gown sets.) Choose an outfit that will look well under your gown Caps & Gowns & Tassels – You are responsible for obtaining your student’s cap and gown. These can be borrowed from prior graduates or purchased new. They can be any color of your choice, however, please consider how the color will photograph. Also, please note that many will likely be wearing the royal blue that has been used by DCHSA for many years. If purchasing, please order no later than March 1 to ensure arrival by commencement. Any decorations added to your student’s mortar board must be approved by the commencement coordinator. Decorated mortar boards will be collected at rehearsal and returned to the student the day of commencement. You might enhance your robe with the following: Honor cords Honor stoles Achievement medals/medallions The HER, (Home Educators Resource), in Lewisville carries some items. HER, www.thsc.org, online printers provide a diploma printing service. Online resources can supply honor cords etc. Some organizations offer special seals for diplomas. These represent outstanding academic/athletic or achievement.

    April 2nd Headshot, Bios and Family and 5 Progression Photos for slide show due Bio should be sent by email in a WORD document in 9 pt. Garamond font; limited to

    150 words. Sample of past bios attached.

    April 22nd 10 Photos for Reception (High School Activities only) WHAT ARE THESE PHOTOS FOR:

    This will be a shuffled show. You in a shot, the next shot of another senior. It will “entertain” those who arrive early and are seated in the sanctuary.

    INFORMATION ABOUT PHOTOS:

    Send me your photos (JPG) in separate emails, ONE EMAIL WITH THE headshot, ONE EMAIL WITH The Family and 5 progression photos and ONE EMAIL WITH the 10 activity photos telling me which category they fall into: Program/Headshot, Ceremony or Reception. The Printed program head shot may also be the 5th/Senior pic for the slideshow, but it doesn’t have to be.

    Email them to me in the JPEG largest format possible (up to 4 mg/email). It helps clarity (dpi) and I can crop.

    What are the photos requested used for:

    Printed Program: 1 photo: head & shoulder shot for the program

    Slideshow for the Ceremony:

    6 photos: one recent family photo (this does not need to be a professional image) and 5 in progression (one baby, toddler, elementary, junior high, & senior shot)

    Photos for the Banquet & Reception BEFORE the ceremony, when you are greeting your

    friends and family, taking group shots, family shots, etc. 10 shots of you DURING HIGH SCHOOL ONLY!

    Focus on the activities that you are passionate about. Family shots with you in them, so we can tell who the senior is. We will include shots in this presentation of the senior activities you

    participated in this year.

    Thursday, May 14th Family Banquet: TBD

    1. Organized Pot Luck or at a restaurant – TBD 2. Sign up deadline April 27th. 3. Casual but nice attire 4. Program: an opportunity for parents to present their graduate to the graduating

    class; this is not required for participation in the banquet a. Prayer/Charge b. Immediate Family only (NOT Including Grandparents, aunts, uncles etc.)

    Friday, May 15th Mandatory Rehearsal, Cross Timber Church, Argyle (8:30 a.m. sharp!)

    o This will last a couple of hours (At least one parent must be present for the first 30 minutes

    o Diplomas in padded folder must be turned in at rehearsal o Girls bring high heeled shoes if you are wearing them during the ceremony o Bring your senior t-shirt o Bring your cap/gown/tassel for group shots o Decorated caps must be approved by the commencement coordinator and

    will be collected at this time until the next day o Be prompt! We will take group shots and run through the program a couple of

    times.

    Saturday, May 16, 2018– the big day! Commencement Ceremony, Cross Timbers Church, Argyle

    Cross Timbers Church 1119 US 377 Argyle, TX 76226 8:00 a.m. Seniors must arrive at this time to set up tables and take group pictures 9 a.m. Your guests may arrive to view tables 9:30a.m. Group PowerPoint will begin playing 10 a.m. Ceremony begins 12 noon Ceremony ends 12:30 p.m. Clean up your table & depart for your personal celebrations!!!
