March 14-15th after All Masses: KOC Food for Families (Canned Goods & Nonperishables & monetary collection)Sunday, March 15th Coffee & Pastry Socials following Sunday Massess BECOME A KNIGHT: For more information www.kofc.org/joinus

We are Catholic men. We live by principles informed by Faith. We are sons, fathers, husbands and grandfathers. Join us on life’s greatest adventure to discover the man God calls you to be.

ASK FOR GRACE

The following words were written by now Saint Mother Theresa to her nuns later in her life. The words are powerful, considering they are addressed to a group of women who have given up everything to help the poorest of the poor and who had the opportunity to be in the presence of a living saint. Perhaps they can be words to guide us for the rest of Lent.

“I worry some of you still have not really met Jesus one-on-one, you and Jesus alone. We may spend time in chapel, but have you seen with the eyes of your soul how He looks at you with love? Do you really know the living Jesus, not from books, but from being with Him in your heart? Have you heard the living words that He speaks to you?

Ask for the grace. He is longing to give it. Never give up this daily, intimate contact with Jesus as a real living person, not just an idea.

Be careful of all that can block that personal being in touch with the living Jesus. The hurts of life, and sometimes your own mistakes, may make you feel it is impossible that Jesus really loves you, is really clinging to you. This is a danger for all of you. And so sad, because it is completely opposite of what Jesus is really wanting, waiting to tell you.

Not only He loves you, even more, He longs for you. He misses you when you don’t come close. He thirsts for you. He loves you always, even when you don’t feel worthy. Even if you are not accepted by others, even by yourself sometimes, He is the one who always accepts you.

My children, you don’t have to be different for Jesus to love you. Only believe, you are precious to him. Bring all you are suffering to His feet, only open your heart to be loved by Him as you are. He will do the rest”. (Varanasi Letter, quoted in Into His Likeness, by Edward Sri, pg 79). - Father Phil

I am pleased to announce that we have achieved our $220,000 goal in phase one of the St Jude Capital Campaign. Thank you for generosity! We have begun work on the side door shelter, and once the weather clears, will work on the roof, putting in a lift between floors, and renovating the outside with Hardie plank, to avoid the need to paint in the future. If you would still like to make a contribution to St. Jude, we will eventually need to replace the hall floor and install better windows upstairs.

I hope parishioners appreciated the powerful words that Fr. Desiderio offered to us during our Parish Mission. His topic is very timely; we can all benefit from remembering to LETGO. I want to especially thank the parish staff for their dedication in managing the many logistics of the mission while continuing to accomplish their other responsibilities, and the many volunteers who helped with set up, liturgy, food, music and the other aspects that made our mission so successful.

Wellness Reminder: If you are not feeling well, please stay home and watch any of the Holy Martyrs Masses which are live streamed on Facebook - go to pothe.org. Stay well :)

HEALING MASS MARCH 18TH, 6PM AT HOLY MARTYRS

“All those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Jesus, and laying his hand on each one of them, He was healing them.” Luke 4:40

“God wants to heal us and will heal through the powerful gift given to us by the Holy Spirit. This is one of God’s gifts to His Church. During a healing mass and service we must remain open to the Holy Spirit and invite Him into our hearts in order for healing to take place. All that’s required on our part is to have expectant faith.” (Maria Muratore)

Prayers will be offered for spiritual needs, physical needs, emotional needs, rela-tionship issues, or for help to forgive themselves or others. The prayer teams will be comprised of individuals trained to assist others to pray for their individual needs. Traditionally, they consist of two or three people who will pray over participants privately. To be able witness to the power of God’s intercession with the prayer teams is an amazing process to observe as God works his healing through them. Give yourself the gift of the Holy Spirit!

SAVE THE DATE: WOMEN’S ACTS RETREAT

Our Women’s ACTS Retreat will be held Thursday evening May 28th through Sunday morning May 31st. (weekend following Memorial Day)

A team of women from Parish of the Holy Eu-charist and Our Lady of Hope Parish has been formed to support our upcoming Women’s ACTS Retreat. They were commissioned at a Mass on February 29th. Please keep them in your prayers as they work to create a rewarding opportunity for women who will be attending the retreat.

Third Sunday of Lent Our Liturgical Color is PURPLE

This Week’s Theme: Jesus is the ‘Living Water’

Gospel of John 4:5-42

Themes of this Sunday’s Gospel:

In this Sunday’s Gospel, a Samaritan woman visiting the village well becomes the bearer of Jesus’ Good News to her townspeople. Jesus chose a woman and a Samaritan to spread his message. He offers her living water, which brings a realization that Jesus is the Messiah and his new community will include Samaritans. We are first given living water at Baptism. Through our Baptism we become part of the community and given the grace to live as Jesus did.

Follow these 3 steps at home:

We Pray:

“By God’s gift, through water and the Holy Spirit, we are reborn to everlasting life. In his goodness, may God continue to pour out his blessings on all of us, his sons and daughters. May he make us faithful members of his holy people. May he send his peace upon all who are gathered here, in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen”.

We Talk:

What does it mean to bring Christ, the “living water” to others? How did the Samaritan woman at the well, in the Gospel, do this? How did she stand up for Jesus and for the message he gave her? How important is it to speak up for what is right? Share examples of people who speak up for others.

We Act:

Water! Water! We will each say a private or family prayer of thanks each time we use water this week. Or, we will explore the life of Dorothy Day, who, like the Samaritan woman, witnessed to Christ’s love, to her community, by her actions, that Jesus was the Messiah-Savior.

Consult our Parish LENTEN GUIDE for in-depth practices, activities and prayers for this season of Lent (found at each church and on our website).

YOUR PARISH-WIDE LENTEN SMALL GROUP FAITH SHARING BEGINS HERE!Take the first step in carving out your Lenten sacrifice by journeying through Lent with a small group. We grow tremendously in our faith when we lean into what we don’t know and have a hard time grasping. St. Augustine said, “If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don’t like, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself.” This Lent we will follow the similar structure of our previous studies. Meeting as a group to read, reflect and discuss the upcoming Sunday passages for the 6 weeks of Lent.

LETS REVIEW HOW TO SIGN UP:1. The easiest way to sign up for a group is to go to our parish website and register at pothe.org/lentensmallgroups (This gives us an understanding of how much material we will need to print and will allow us to see if you are already part of a group. If you aren’t part of a group, this gives us the information to place you in the right spot!)2. Your group leader/facilitator will recieve the materials your group needs. If you are unable to join a group this season there will be materials available for you at each of our churches.3. If you don’t have access to a computer, would like assistance in signing up or need more details of group meetings/locations please provide your full name, number, and email below and place it in the offertory basket and our faith formation team will be in touch to gather the necessary information to get you connected!4. As small groups form, the meeting dates/times/locations will be up-dated on the website: pothe.org/lent2020. Call the office at 847-6890 if you need help accessing that information.

“But whoever drinks the water I give, will never be thirsty.”

Are you thirsting for an understanding of your vocation? If you think Jesus may be inviting you to the priesthood or consecrated life, call Father Seamus Griesbach at (207) 773-6471 or write: [email protected].

POTHE NEWS & EVENTS

Almsgiving The Lenten call to almsgiving means making the needs of other peo-ple our own. One of the central lessons of the cross is compassion; the heavy bur-dens we carry help us to appreciate the suffering in others. Please consider participating in these Ministries/collections which are in need of help:

Good Friday Walk to Benefit Habitat for Humanity POTHE supports the Habitat for Humanity program and will be involved with the annual fund-raising event -- the Good Friday Walk in Cumberland, North Yarmouth and Yaar-mouth on April 10. We hope to provide food and supplies to a way station on Greely Road where the long-range hikers (10 and 20 miles) are welcomed. We invite parishioners to consider being a part of the Good Friday Walk -- distances of your own choice. We also hope to get your help in providing nourishing food at the way station. More information is available - http://habitatportlandme.org/index.php/info/Good-Friday-Walk.

St Vincent de PaulOur dedicated POTHE volunteers continue to provide for those in need. More volunteers are always welcome. The soup kitchen continues to serve a full lunch meal along with a take home bag lunch and various staple grocery items.

Clothing donations are available for our clients every Friday. Donated clothing should clean and in good condition. Men’s clothing is always the Priority. Our Parish Commu-nity has been very generous with their donations and time. FMI call Evelyn: 447-1086.

Catholic Charities Refugee ResettlementThanks to the generosity of our Parish, we were able to provide much needed supplies and warm clothes to 5 refugee families through Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement at Christmas time. Catholic Charities continues to welcome new refugees from all over the world and, especially, at this time, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq and Afghan-istan. The new wave of refugees are in dire need of a few items and we hope you can help out. The list is as follows:

TWIN size warm blankets, bedspreads and comforters (CC has no facility to wash or repair anything so please donate only new or gently used that is not stained, torn or has lots of pilling)Pots and Pans (Sets or individual pans in good condition are accepted)Cleaning Supplies* such as:Broom/dustpan, Sponges, Can of cleanser (i.e.Ajax), Laundry detergent, Dish detergent, All purpose Spray Cleaner, Toilet Brush

* Non-toxic forms are preferred because not everyone can read English labels. If you would like to put a household collection together, that’s great. If you wish to contribute one or some individual items, you can leave them in the box in the back of the Church.

We will be collecting these items after weekend Masses until March 22.
