CLUSTER 1
Dear COSMOS Student, Upon the start of the program you were unsure of the expectations in your cluster, and anxious to meet your fellow COSMOS students. I’m sure that you no longer have those anxieties. In fact, I bet that many of you, if not all of you, have gained confidence in your ability to learn new and demanding academic material as well as developed wonderful friendships. I watched from afar all the dedication that you put into your academic work from attending study hall sessions to forming study groups on your free time. You put in hard work to satisfy both your desire to succeed and the high expectations placed upon you by your Professors. We all had the chance to learn about each other and our COSMOS community. We all come from many different places. We all have different interests. We all learned to be understanding of one another and we all were accepting of the differences. We built our COSMOS community through many evening and weekend activities. We took part in activities that fostered communication and teamwork. I’ve seen how you made friends and I’ve heard from your Residential Assistants how much you’ve grown. I was impressed by the level of maturity you demonstrated. In the end, the purpose of COSMOS was to inspire you to continue in the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We wanted you to feel that science is rewarding. The COSMOS faculty taught you new ways of thinking and have guided you though your final projects. The Teacher Fellows and Teaching Assistants supported you in understanding the material. The Residential Assistant helped you to learn about each other and their interest in science. Everything we have done is to make sure your experience in the world of science was positive and satisfying. I certainly hope that with your experiences here at COSMOS, you will continue to pursue your inter-est in the sciences and become leaders in your community. I hope you’ve come away with inspiration and leadership from UCSC COSMOS.
Sincerely, Raul Ebio 2012 COSMOS Director
