European Commission States:

CSR is a concept which integrates social and environmental concerns in their businesses and in their interactions with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis.

World Business Council for Sustainable Development:

Its publication, Corporate Social Responsibility: Making Good Business Sense (January 2000), highlighted the importance of continued commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development. It also noted the importance of improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large.

CSR is also called corporate conscience, corporate citizenship, social performance, or sustainable responsible business/ Responsible Business.

The term "corporate social responsibility" came into common use in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

ISO 26000 is the recognized international standard for CSR.

TRIPLE BOTTOM LINE People planet and profit, also known as

the triple bottom line, are words that should be used and practiced in every move an organization makes.

People relates to a fair and beneficial business practices toward labour, the community and region where corporation conducts its business.

Planet refers to the sustainable environmental practices.

Profit is the economic value created by the organization after deducting the cost of all inputs, including the cost of the capital tied up.

Azim Premji is the Chairman and MD of Wipro Technologies.

Wipro(Western India Products) founded by Azim Premji’s father in 1947 at Amalner , Maharashtra started as vegetable oil trading company.

1966 Azim took over the leadership of company and transformed Wipro into consumer goods company

1975 set up Wipro Fluid Power 1979 developing own computers 1980 moved into software development

WIPRO-CSR ACTIVITIES? Firstly , initiative of Wipro is towards

education : Wipro Care , Wipro applying thoughts campaign.

Secondly , its initiative is towards environment :

Eco-Eye.

WIPRO CARE Wipro Cares :- "Wipro Cares" strives hard to address major

issues responsibly. From community relief and rehabilitation in times of disasters to education opportunities, health and wellness programs for the needy, we make sure that our social initiatives touch every level of society that needs our help.

Wipro care is an initiative by the wiproites. Wipro care contributes through two prolonged

strategy. –learning enhancement & disaster rehabilitation.

WIPRO APPLYING THOUGHT IN SCHOOLS:- Through the "Applying Thought in

Schools" initiative we have engaged with more than 1000 schools, 10,000 educators and 30 social organizations across 17 states in the country to bring about educational reform.

I. Primary data is not used.II. Lack of appropriate sources and

knowledge for research methodology.III. Practically not evaluated due to lack

of primary data.

CONCLUSION

“ Business too owes an obligation to society. I urge you to consider what your obligations are today. In discovering opportunities to invest in social useful projects, in creating new avenues of progress for the un-privileged, in investing in the less developed regions for the benefit of marginalized sections of our society. Corporate social responsibility is not philanthropy. It is not charity. It is an investment in our collective future”
