    corneas are in your eyes the functions are to bend light rays

    that go into the eyes cornea lense does fine tuning to

    vision

    1/2 millimeter thick contains 5 layers (epithelium,

    Bowmans membrane, stroma,bescemets membrane, andendothelium)

    Donating Corneas

    Anyone between the ages of 6 to70 who died of a unatural causelike car crashes or gun shotwounds or natural causes likeheartattack or strokes can donate

    their corneas. People who havereceived previous laser surgery orinfections such as HIV, TB andLeukemia unfortunantly can notdonate their corneas.

    Adults, children and some babiesneed transplants for various

    reasons. When a person has acornea disease, when the corneabecomes cone-shaped or they have

    scarring after infection or injury youcan be put on a waiting list for acornea transplant. There are nomedical conditions that wouldrestrict someone from receicving a

    Restrictions

    The restrctions on lifestyles aftersurgery are not too major. Notwearing contact lenses for the firstfew weeks after the surgery is theonly major restrctions on

    someones lifestyle. Also, for thefirst six weeks people must avoidheavy exercise.

    Expenses For someone to donate their

    cornea the cost is around $2,800

    and for someone to receive acornea the cost is around $7,000

    Hospitals

    Most hospitals do the procedure of transplanting corneas, but theHopsital of California and Hospitalof Ohio are two main hospitalsknown for transplanting corneas.

    Post Operative Therapy

    For the donor there is no postoperative therapy because thedonor must be dead to donatetheir corneas. For the recipientthey must get some bed rest the

    nights leading up to their surgery. There is no major therapy thatmust be done.
