THE MONASH UNIVERSITY LOGO

Our logo is the most recognisable visual symbol of our brand.

There are two components to the Monash logo: the shield and the wordmark. They are only ever seen together and should not be separated.

The shield represents our prestige, while the wordmark uses a combination of two distinctive, clean and stylish fonts to define us as contemporary and modern.

It embodies our brand promise and values: our heritage, who we are today, and who we aspire to be.

There are set ways in which the logo must be applied in all creative applications.

If you need to use the Monash University logo, please email: [email protected].

Shield Wordmark

The Monash shield:

• The open book is commonly found in university shields and symbolises the pursuit of knowledge.

• The stars of the Southern Cross relate to the University’s geographical base.

• The sword and wreath are references to the shield granted to the University’s namesake, Sir John Monash.

• The University’s motto, ‘Ancora Imparo’, means ‘I am still learning’.

For Monash University logo history, please refer to Appendix 1, page 102.

MONASH CORE ELEMENTSLOGO VERSIONS – ON WHITE

Mono

Our preference to be used on most communications.

There are two versions of the Monash University logo: stacked and horizontal. The stacked logo is the primary option as it has a clean and modern look, and fits most spaces with impact. Where space is an issue, revert to the single-line version. The logo can be mono, blue, or with a gradient.

We use different versions depending on the communication channel and space requirements.

Blue

For recruitment materials only.

Shield: Monash Blue

Wordmark: 100% black

Gradient

For use in video and animations only.

Shield: Monash gradient

Wordmark: 100% black

HorizontalStacked (preferred)

LOGO VERSIONS – ON BACKGROUNDS

The keyline logo is used whenever the logo is on a dark-colour background or shown at smaller sizes, to better preserve the details within the crest.

Where the Monash University logo appears on solid, dark-colour backgrounds, the keyline logo is reversed out in white. Blue is used for recruitment puposes only.

This is important for all applications including print, online and signage.

Solid logo

Keyline logo on dark background

The solid logo is used whenever the logo is placed on a light background. As a rule of thumb the elements in the shield must be clear and the details preserved. When in doubt, always check with Strategic Marketing and Communications via [email protected].

MONASH CORE ELEMENTSLOGO USAGE

Minimum size and clear space specifications ensure the Monash University logo remains legible in all applications.

Clear space

The minimum area surrounding the logo should be kept free of any other graphic element or text.

The clear space area is defined by the cap height of the letter ‘M’.

Minimum clear space must be observed in all applications.

Minimum size

Do not to reproduce the logo smaller than the minimum indicated sizes.

When the standard logo gets smaller, the details within the crest can get lost. At this point the keyline logo should be used.

MONASH CORE ELEMENTSTHE MONASH LOGO – PREFERRED POSITIONING

The Monash University logo should have the required clear space, and placed in a position to achieve the necessary impact needed for our brand to be identified.

Ideally, the Monash University logo should be placed top left or bottom right. However, there’s the flexibility for it to sit in any corner.

In some instances, due to the scale of the creative, the logo can be positioned vertically centred. For example, on online advertising banners or billboards. Please contact [email protected] for further advice.
