Stem cells are the bodys master cells.

Stem cells that are found in bone marrow, peripheral blood, and cord blood arecalled Hematopoietic Stem Cells

These are building blocks of the blood

Nearly 40 years ago, the first bone marrowtransplant offered new hope for patientswith leukemia.

Since 1990, stem cell transplants are more

Stored cord blood stem cells from a childis the perfect match for that child. Thisallows for an autologous transplant ifneeded, with no risk of Graft-vs- HostDisease(GVHD). GVHD is where the bodyrejects the donors stem cells and mayprevent engraftment from occurring.

Cord blood stem cells are a close matchfor siblings or family members in case ofneed, with low risk of GVHD.
