Module 1 | Activity 2Learning Through Ranking

Essential Conditions to Effectively Leverage ICT for Learning

• Review the Essentials Worksheet and indicate your school’s level of progress and note specifics as it relates to your rating.

• Share and discuss how you rated your schools progress in each of these areas.

• Some Questions to consider:– What “essential conditions” do you view as the most critical to address for

your school to best leverage ICT to support teaching and learning in your school?

– What “essential conditions” do you think you are doing “best”?– What “essential conditions” do you think you need to address “first”?– How would use or modify these essential conditions to support your work

as a leader to leverage ICT for learning?

Module 3 | Activity 1Understanding and Comparing Web 2.0

Web 2.0 presents a shift from the “read-only” version of the web to a “read-write” version. Web 2.0 means users can participate, manipulate, and contribute to Web content, often without using specialised software beyond their browsers.

Wikipedia offers a detailed definition of Web 2.0 at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2

Leadership

School leaders are key actors in re-imagining schools for a

Digital future. They have to recognise that their students are a

resource to be unleashed; that they have the knowledge, skills

and understanding to contribute to and develop their own

learning experience. This approach to teaching can be scaled

up to reframe the role that young people play in the whole

school system. Leaders need to think innovatively about the

resources already within their school and how to mobilise them

all to make maximum impact from invigorating ICT lessons, to

embedding technologies across the curriculum. This is about

focusing on small levers with the potential to create big

change.Their Space - Education for a digital generation, Green and Hannon, Demos 2007 p 66
