BXR-48000 Dual SCP Configuration
Optional dual SCPs provide protection The primary active SCP emits a "heartbeat" at regular intervals
Primary/Secondary vs. Active/Standby SCPs Primary – is set as the default SCP to control the system after it boots Secondary – is set as the backup SCP should the primary fail Active – is the SCP that is currently controlling the system Standby – is the backup SCP

IP-Aware (IPA) ATM Port Cards
An IP-aware ATM interface has ATM capabilities plus capabilities in an IP/MPLS network: Hop-by-hop routing when there is no LSP for the destination Can originate or terminate an LSP, encapsulating/decapsulating
packets using RFC 1483/2684 (bridged/routed PVCs) Support for ATM and MPLS control planes on the same port Pseudo Wire Emulation Edge-to-Edge (PWE3) Provider Edge (PE) capability
A topology change can make a transit LSR become an LER, the IPA card performs both roles. Ingress and egress to the MPLS network require IP look-ups A network failure could cause a transit LSR to unexpectedly become
an LER that cannot perform IP lookups

IPA ATM Port Card Hardware
Port card types, listed by interface: 8 port OC-3c/STM-1 in multimode and single mode 8 port OC-12c/STM-4* in multimode and single mode 2 port OC-48c/STM-16 in single mode
* Each port configurable as OC-12c/STM-4 or OC-3c/STM-1

Packet over SONET (POS) Port Cards
SONET-based IP interfaces allow direct connection of IP devices
OC-12c and OC-48c POS port cards can be trunks for aggregated IP traffic
Hop-by-hop routing supported Can originate or terminate an LSP
Provider Edge (PE) functionality Multiservice capability over MPLS with PWE3 toward the network
