Explore Your Leadership PotentialExercising leadership engages one’s whole being. During the MBA, you will take a journey of personal and professional development with numerous opportunities to explore what leadership is and to develop your capacity to exercise it effectively and responsibly. The objectives of the Leadership Discovery Process are to develop an understanding of yourself, learn your true leadership style, appreciate the differences in others and enhance your ability to work in different teams. Topics such as cognitive coaching, the functioning of the brain, team dynamics, situational leadership and human understanding are explored. You will be guided to solve specific tasks and reflexive exercises both individually and in teams.

Action-based LearningThe leadership simulators offer you the opportunity to approach leadership from a 'learning by doing' perspective. Through a series of outdoor activities, you take turns to perform as a leader. Setting the scene for your own performance, you will receive feedback from your peers, as well as the coaches in the areas of teamwork, communication, interpersonal skills and leadership skills. In preparing you to lead, you will be guided to apply the Leadership Discovery Process to your real life.

Mentorship ProgrammeThe mentorship programme is designed to support the Leadership Discovery Process and runs in tandem, offering you an opportunity to discuss practical leadership issues with seasoned executives in Scandinavian firms. You will be taught to challenge your assumptions about your team members and effectively transfer the theory you have learned into practice. Having access to experienced executives who will teach and guide you through real-life management challenges, is an aspect of the programme many MBA students find immensely helpful. The skills you will develop, the advice you will receive, and the insight you will gain will bring value for years to come.

Sustainable Business PracticesDenmark is at the forefront of CSR and sustainable business practices. As such, there is no better place than CBS for furthering your knowledge within this complex field.

Denmark – At the Forefront of CSRConsumers, investors and stakeholders are becoming increasingly aware of the manner in which a company is run. Running your business in a sustainable manner is a longevity strategy which should be integrated across departments, from marketing to financial accounting. Denmark is at the forefront of corporate social responsibility and sustainable business practices, and as such there is no better place on the planet to learn about effective sustainable business practices.

Explore Sustainable Business PracticesThe sustainable business practices module spans six months and forms a bridging course, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature which characterises corporate sustainability. Through this course, you will explore different issues in corporate sustainability and responsible management and assess the risks and opportunities that are associated with each of the core management courses of the Full-time MBA programme. As a result, you will receive a 360 degree view of corporate sustainability as it applies to various business functions and areas. Towards the end of your MBA year, you will have gained in-depth CSR knowledge and possess the ability to put sustainable business practice to work in a real-life situation.

Beyond the ClassroomIf you want to deepen your understanding of corporate sustainability as it relates to both daily life and the workplace, you have the opportunity to join the Net Impact global network and other platforms on campus. This will allow you to build a network, as well as exchange ideas with other students and professionals across various industries, furthering your knowledge and insight into this complex field.

The Sustainable Business Practices discipline is a great opportunity to better understand how companies are facing the current sustainability challenges and at the same time learn how to apply them in real life.”

CBS FULL-TIME MBA 11

At the end of your MBA year, you will get the chance to put your new skills to practice by working closely with a company based in the region on a strategic challenge.

Real-life Business Case Your MBA will conclude with an Integrated Strategy Project (ISP), in which you will combine the knowledge, skills and tools you have acquired throughout the programme and apply them to a real-life business case. Teams of MBA participants, under the guidance of faculty and experienced executives, conduct an integrated strategy study for an internationally oriented company in Denmark and the Øresund region. The project tests your ability to utilise relevant theories, models and methods and apply them to form a strategy. You will identify a strategic problem in an organisation, extract the relevant data, analyse and structure the problem and then present the solution in a brief and precise manner for the company you work with. More than 800 ISP projects have been completed through our programme and, as such, we have positive working relationships with many companies in the region.

Strategy Projects – ExamplesBelow are a few examples of strategy projects our MBA students have taken on in the past:

• Formulating a strategy for entering a new market

• Exploring new business opportunities

• Establishing new approaches to supplier relationships

• Identifying acquisition targets

• Presenting a product market strategy

Collaborating with CBS Full-time MBAs has allowed us to make fast, strategic decisions based on structured empirical data, thorough analyses, and recommendations combining insights from multiple industries – an opportunity that is rarely readily available to entrepreneurial start-ups.”

Course ContentThe teaching in the MBA auditorium includes the use of cases, guest speakers, simulations and active participation. Throughout the MBA year, you will be evaluated through a mixture of exams, papers, group work, presentations and class participation.

Trimester 1 Organisational Behaviour & Managerial Decision–Making The course provides you with the necessary conceptual tools to manage organisational behaviour effectively. It covers key dimensions of managing people and work processes, and examines the complexities of real organisational life, including diversity, negotiation, decision-making, teams, emotion in the workplace, and work/life management. By way of readings, cases, lectures and simulations, the course aims to enhance your professional skills in handling intra-organisational dynamics.

Management Accounting The purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding and appreciation of the strengths and limitations of an organisation's account-ing systems in regard to management. The course provides a framework for analysing and understanding these accounting systems (such as budgeting, reporting, analysis and management of cost, responsibility accounting and transfer pricing), as well as the design of comprehensive approaches to performance management. Furthermore, the course reflects on the internal accounting system’s role in keeping the firm and its members honest, responsible, and able to actively engage in activity that is both economically, environmentally and socially sustainable (ie. manage the triple bottom line).

Marketing Management The objective of this course is to familiarise you with the analytical concepts, frameworks, models and methods that have become fundamental to marketing decision-making as well as to marketing strategy. The course guides you through the development and use of marketing models in all four areas of market management: market sensing, market relating, market prioritising, and market creation. Emphasis is given to understanding markets and customers in order to implement value-creating solutions for both customers and suppliers. The course covers business-to-consumer and business -to-business marketing.

Economics The course covers the broad fields of microeconomics and macroeconomics. The aim is to provide an understanding of how economic principles can be used in decision-making and to predict the effects of changes in the economic environment where firms operate. In the microeconomics part of the course, the focus is on cost analysis, pricing strategies, and strategic interaction in markets. The sessions on macroeconomics focus on the economic aspects that shape the environment of business. It reviews the current situation of the economy, both nationally and internationally, which may be of importance for the world economy. Key concepts are total production and income, unemployment, inflation, the rate of interest, the trade balance, exchange

Over the past year I have been challenged and inspired by my professors, my fellow students and by business leaders in ways that I never imagined. This year has changed my life and I would enthusiastically encourage anyone considering CBS to go for it!”

rates, etc. The aim is to be able to explain the determinants of economic developments both in the short- and long-term, and to understand the impact on the economy from the various shocks that hit it and the impact of subsequent policy. The Economics course provides numerous applications of the concepts to current real world problems firms face.

Human Resource Management The objective of this course is to provide you with a better understanding of the key components and concepts of strategic human resource management. Drawing upon a wide range of disciplines, including organisational behaviour, strategy psychology and economics, we present, discuss and apply theories, frameworks and tools to manage human resources more effectively and to support the strategic objectives of the firm. The course is taught using the 'case-based teaching' method, which assumes inductive knowledge generation and involves high-energy discussion, debate and interaction.

Entrepreneurial Mindset This course focuses on the manager as an entrepreneur. A balance must be achieved between disciplined management and entrepreneurship in great organisations. But how can entrepreneurship take different forms e.g. by reconstructing business models? How can a company be structured for entrepreneurship? How can middle-level managers' entrepreneurial behaviour be modelled? These are some of the questions to be discussed in the entrepreneurial mindset course.

Trimester 2 Financial Accounting This course provides you with an introduction to fundamental financial accounting concepts and issues. The objective is to develop your ability to read, understand, evaluate and use financial statements. Core topics include the balance sheet, the income statement, the cash flow statement and relevant financial ratios. With a focus on the strengths and limitations of financial reporting in a multinational setting, the course is viewed from the vantage points of both managers and investors.

Change Management This course examines theories of change and development as they apply to organisations, groups and individuals. It explores the way in which different theoretical perspectives on change are reflected in the range of approaches that can be applied to the diagnosis and solving of problems in organisations. Attention is given to the critical issues that need to be considered when developing and implementing a plan for change, such as organisational politics, stakeholder management, strategic leadership, communication, motivating others to change, maintaining control during the change process, and choice and sequencing of interventions. Attention is also given to change agency and styles of intervention.

Multinational Operations and Supply Chain ManagementOperations and Supply Chain Management is concerned with the development, production, and delivery of goods and services to the final customer. Supply chains are often organised around complex multinational networks where sourcing of inputs, production processes, and distribution channels are tied together by integrative information and knowledge transformation processes. In this course, you will explore how to develop operations and supply chain strategies that satisfy customer needs through collaboration, technology and process improvement. Through the course, you will develop the capabilities to integrate the concepts of operations and supply chain management into your own business context.

Doing an MBA at CBS is a life-changing and rewarding experience. Teaming up with fellow international students, learning from a world-class faculty, and living in a city which embraces innovation and entrepreneurship, are all part of the experience which will stretch your mind and challenge your perspectives. We would be

proud to welcome you onboard!”

Corporate Finance Corporate Finance mirrors the financial future of a company. You will first be introduced to the basic risk and return concepts and subsequently develop finance related performance measurement concepts and link them to issues of capital structure. Sustainable growth is a key model for understanding of how to manage a company financially and the course therefore provides you with an understanding of how the capital market works and introduces you to the advantages and drawbacks of various new finance instruments. Further topics covered by the course include: portfolio management /asset management, as well as venture capital and key employee stock options within knowledge intensive companies.

Strategic Management This course introduces different analytical frameworks for you to understand the nature of strategic issues that you, as a manager, must address. The work of strategic leaders is characterised as that of organisational designers and managers of human systems for sustainable value creation. We discuss

the essential content of strategies at the business unit, corporate, and global levels. We also use different models to analyse important sources of change in the macroenvironment and the role you, as the strategic manager, play in helping the company to adapt to these changes. We consider cognitive and ethical challenges in managing strategic issues and discuss the meaning of strategic leadership.

International Business This course is focused on the management of the international business environment and on internationalisation strategies. By concentrating on the main themes of international business, the course will familiarise you with the various approaches and techniques employed in analysing a foreign environment. The objective is to provide you with an understanding of the complex relationships between different aspects of society, which have tremendous implications for businesses. Inevitably, this course takes a cross-disciplinary approach. The course offers tools and concepts that will enable you to understand and analyse

Pre-MBA Introduction week

We also offer a one-week optional pre-MBA for DKK 7500 which we highly recommend you to participate in. This is an excellent opportunity to familiarise yourself with Economics and Accounting, particularly if you come from a Humanities background and have not yet encountered these topics.

The Pre-MBA also serves as a valuable refresher course for those of you who have taken these subjects before, but have been out of university for a few years and are out of practice.

You will be required to attend introduction week, which gives you the chance to adapt to your new environment at CBS and to get to know your fellow MBA students.

To kick-start the MBA, you will find yourself warmly welcomed by the administration and faculty. You will be invited to participate in social activities to facilitate your transition into the MBA and life in Copenhagen.

The Crown of the Programme: Integrated Strategy Project The crown of the programme is the final strategy project, where you will channel your new-found business skills and knowledge into a real-life strategic challenge. You and your fellow students work together in a small group, acting as advisers to a company in the region, obtaining information and analysing data and translating this into a strategic plan for the relevant business unit. Many MBA students speak of the strategy project as the highlight of the year, as it tests and challenges your entire MBA skillset. It also provides you with an unmatched opportunity to create ties and relations to an internationally-oriented company that is based here in the region.

The Career Services is a very valuable part of the MBA programme as it builds a close relationship between CBS graduates and leading companies in the Nordic region. It has helped me a lot with my job search and taught me how

How have Alumni put their MBAs into practice?

After working for more than a decade, I decided to do an MBA with aspirations of changing my career path and moving into management consulting. However, because my experience had only been in the hi-tech industry, I knew that I would have to make a strong case in order to gain entry into a management consulting firm.

Fortunately, the CBS Full-time MBA provided me with the right tools and enabled me to make this challenging career transition. During job interviews, the holistic view of a business issue, leadership skills with an emphasis on trust, and practical hands-on experience were quite useful when discussing a business case. I was able to demonstrate a strong knowledge of theory and a breadth of experience, all from the MBA programme.

Today I work as a management consultant in Quartz+Co, a first-tier management consulting company. Based in Denmark, it already has a reach far beyond the country’s borders and an ambition to become the leading management consulting firm in the Nordic region.

My time at Quartz+Co has been packed with interesting strategy projects where I am able to use the knowledge I gained during the MBA. I have found change management methods useful when communicating a strategic change within an organisation and corporate finance knowledge instrumental when I work with private equity firms. Additionally, CBS’s unique leadership module provided helpful insights into managing my energy. I use these tools daily in order to keep up with my demanding work.

Before the MBA I was a program manager for an NGO in Germany, where I was mainly responsible for conducting workshops and preparing volunteers for international exchange programmes. Now, after finishing my MBA at CBS, I am a cLEAN®-consultant in strategy & processes in Device R&D for the Danish company Novo Nordisk. The C in cLEAN stands for current and it is Novo Nordisk’s way of ensuring lean operations – a task that is particularly interesting in a R&D environment with constantly changing projects. My tasks are to run risk assessment workshops with the projects, to give feedback to managers, and to manage cross functional improvement projects.

My MBA is the backbone of my professional life, in particular the business and leadership tools essential for strategic consultancy and improvements, projects that affect both processes and people. I have found the MBA to be the fine difference, giving me the quality assurance and the confidence to know I can do it! – even when working for a great company like Novo Nordisk. The MBA gives me a 360 degree understanding of business, empowering me to work in various directions. In hindsight, the leadership training at CBS is of particularly high value to me; it enables me to take action on my job, and gives me a deeper understanding of its processes.

— Martin Paulsen, Class of 2013

Before joining CBS, I worked as a consultant in Customer Relationship Management. I am an ardent fan of mathematics and analytics – and always knew that I was a number-oriented person. Before the MBA, I worked for a Danish company for over two years and experienced the unique Danish leadership style. Its stark contrast to Indian leadership, the lack of hierarchy and the openness were intriguing and led me to choose CBS to pursue my MBA.

CBS gave me a unique opportunity to experience people from different cultures 24/7 in an intense and fun-filled environment. Every day brought something new – meaning every day I was learning. The biggest achievement

for me was discovering my people side. During the Leadership Discovery Process, I became more aware of this part of me, learned how to combine it with the correct leadership style and how to use the right coaching tools to lead.

Today I work at IKEA as a business navigator. I manage performance across all categories on the supply chain side, and am actively involved with change management within the organisation. It is a continuous melting pot of managing people’s needs, in addition to the figures and numbers on a daily basis. Without having learned the art of combining these these two aspects – people and numbers – in the MBA, I wouldn’t have felt at ease and enjoyed my job the way I do today!

Public concern about environmental and social issues has profoundly transformed the competitive field. Rather than uniformly changing the market conditions for all, corporate sustainability impacts firms differently. This translates into both risks and opportunities, which

we will explore here at CBS.”

Wonderful CopenhagenCopenhagen is a delightful city to live in – quality of life is high, green spaces are easily accessible, and a majority of the population use their bike to get around, setting the standards for low-emission living. Through its strategic placement in the heart of the Øresund region, Copenhagen is a buzzing business hub and home to a wide variety of companies, offering numerous career opportunities.

Green CityAs one of the world’s top cities for living, Copenhagen offers a huge range of possibilities in lifestyle choices. Arts, culture, sports, leisure activities, food and drink are all easily accessible. Part of the city’s uniqueness comes from a solid green/environmentally-friendly agenda, which is expressed in creative concepts such as city beaches. There is also no need to leave the city in search of green spaces; all residents live within easy reach of parks and green space.

High Quality of LifeCopenhagen has one of the lowest crime rates in the world and visitors often mention the feeling of security and safety as one of the city’s most distinctive features. The well-functioning public transport infrastructure in combination with the bicycle lanes throughout the city make it possible for you to get around and enjoy the rich culture of the Copenhagen area easily. Copenhagen is world-renowned for leading the sustainability agenda in transportation, energy, waste management and other aspects of city development.

Working EnvironmentDenmark offers one of the world’s top working environments where work-life balance and self development are encouraged. Corporate culture is heavily influenced by the Scandinavian leadership approach characterised by trust, teamwork and respect for the individual. Furthermore, Denmark offers an outstanding entrepreneurial environment, and has been voted the easiest place in Europe to do business in by the World Bank. The city has developed into a hub for technology based companies, especially within pharmaceuticals, chemicals, biotech, IT and telecommunications. The greater Copenhagen area also hosts a unique creative cluster, notably within film and TV production, computer games, design and fashion.

What continues to strike me about Copenhagen is the people. Nearly everyone has their masters, speaks fluent English, and enjoys a fruitful and happy work/life balance."
