BA (Hons.) GRAPHIC DESIGN LEVEL 05 Module Code OUGD501 Module Title Design Context END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION NAME Adam Garbutt Throughout the first half of the module I really enjoyed doing the individual study tasks as It allowed me to develop my writing skills a lot more because unlike with the other modules where I’m able to constantly work on my skills these allowed me to have an excuse to practice writing. I would have liked to have done more because of the length of them was great to practice my writing. However I while I did improve my writing skills learned through those study tasks, I’m unsure of how well I’d applied them in the Essay it’s self. I found it hard when it came to collecting relevant sources and got my self caught in a loop of studies that all referenced one another and struggled to get out of that to find more sources, quite a lot of them been expensive or just plain hard to get hold of. This I believe was due to the how specific the subject of my essay was and left it a bit weak and I felt I had exhausted on any points I was trying to say. Overall I was a bit disheartened even though It was a subject I was really interested in learning and finding out more about. In the future to completely avoid having this happen again, from the start I’m going to try and nail down plenty of sources that all relate to the subject because otherwise it’ll impact not only me but also the strength of my argument and points I’m trying to get across. Although I don’t really normally choose to do posters, I thought that seen as though it’s language and the connotations carried by dialects and accents. It would be best to have people read what I’m trying to express in a more direct manner, rather then have it hidden within pages and a front cover. I decided to go complete different route with my practical and decided to try my hand at calligraphy, because I was doing poetry I wanted the words to flow better, but also to represent the upper class more then just through the words themselves. I didn’t realise just how time consuming this was going to take and resulted in me rewriting the poems two times over. Then piecing it word by word in Photoshop was just as consuming. I realised by the end I could have saved my self a whole lot of time by using a ruler and writing on lines instead of by freehand. However because of this module I’ve been able to develop a new skill, albeit one in its infancy, I hope to develop it further in the future. Things I would defiantly change next time or improve on when next doing the CoP module would be 1) Nail doing all the sources immediately, ones that carry weight. To help me strengthen my essay and to overall give me more piece of mind. 2) Choose something that isn’t so specific in its subject, but has plenty of background information to give me plenty of room to work with. 3) Include triangulation within my essay to help strengthen it.
