Air Conditioning Innovations fortheTelecommunications Industry

In our communications-based society, technologiesare being developed and used on a daily basis thatimpact all of our lives. A key element of the entirenew global network of communications systems cir-cling our cities and running parallel to our roadwaysare the shelters containing the electronic equipment. These shelters require air conditioning during most, ifnot all, of the year, to offset the high heat loads ofthe electronic equipment inside and ensure smoothoperations. Reliable Marvair™ Air Conditionerskeep the network operating whatever the outdoorconditions.

In the early l980’s, Marvair™ developed innovativeair conditioning units specifically for the emerging communications market. Marvair continues to be thepreferred choice for communications applications on aworldwide basis because they are durable, easy toinstall and perform reliably year after year.

Efficient Air Conditioning Systemsfor All TelecommunicationsApplications

With the telecommunications industry changing so quickly – cellular, cable, wireless, satellite, 2.5 & 3G– companies have made a sizable investment toensure that the electronic equipment vital to the com-munications operations work reliably inside the shelter.

Marvair’s full line of air conditioning products from one-half ton to six tons are designed and manufactured tocool communications shelters, huts and cabinets. Unitsare available for many voltages and most internationalpower supplies.

Marvair™ combines expertise in design, manufactur-ing and industry knowledge to be uniquely qualified toprovide the air conditioning units you need today.

Marvair™ Products are Flexible,Cost-Efficient Solutions for Today& Tomorrow

The optimum in cooling, Marvair’s ComPac® Series isdesigned and built with all of the controls needed forcooling your communications shelter for any season. The ComPac II models have a built-in economizer, totake advantage of using outside air during lower temperatures to cool the building. The economizercycle can reduce the run time on the compressor by upto 75%, extending compressor life and the longevity ofthe air conditioner. The ComPac I air conditioners areideal for tropical or subtropical environments or wherecorrosive outside air may damage sensitive telecommu-nications equipment.

Air Conditioner

A Marvair™ First - FactoryInstalled Economizer -ComPac® II A/C OnlyThe ComPac® II A/C’s economizer system makes this unit an outstandingchoice for efficient, long-term communi-cations shelter cooling. The ComPac IIA/C is controlled by a signal from thewall mounted indoor thermostat whencooling is required, whether mechanicalcooling with the compressor or freecooling with the economizer. A factoryinstalled enthalpy controller determineswhether the outside air is to be used, and if suitable, the compressor is lockedout and the economizer damper opens tobring in outside air. The temperature atwhich the economizer opens isadjustable from 53°F (12°C) at 50% relative humidity to 78°F (46°C) at 50%relative humidity.

Following the enthalpy control activa-tion, the mixed air sensor measures thetemperature of the air entering theindoor blower from the outside and modulates the economizer damper to supply the precise ratio of indoor and outdoor air for a discharge temperature of 50° to 56°F (10° to 13°C) to prevent thermal shock of the electronic compo-nents. The compressor will not operatewhen the economizer is functioning. Ifthe outside air becomes too hot orhumid, the economizer damper closesand mechanical cooling is activated.

SlimPac™ ECU The SlimPac™ ECU is built in cooling capacities of

12,000 and 18,000 BTUH. With its unique profile, the SlimPac ECU mounts quickly on the exterior of acabinet on either side of the splice chamber.

MiniPac™ ECU The MiniPac™ ECU has nominal cooling capacities

from 4,400 to 8,000 BTUH. The use of a condenserblower and an over/under condenser air intake anddischarge design allows the unit to be installed witha minimum of clearance around the sides.

DoorPac™ ECU The DoorPac™ ECU has a nominal cooling capacity

of 12,000 BTUH and is installed through the door ora telecommunication cabinet. This unique designminimizes the exterior space required.

ECU60 As more telecommunication equipment is added to

existing shelters, heat loads increase and more cool-ing is required. The Marvair™ ECU60 provides anideal solution to this problem. The ECU60 is designed

as a field replacement forMarvair’s 3 Ton ComPac® I airconditioner. The uniquedesign eliminates the need tocut new openings in the shel-ter. It has the same size sup-ply and return openings asthe AVP36 but with 50%more cooling capacity.

When you need to increasethe cooling capacity and yourcurrent unit is the ComPac® IIair conditioner with the built-ineconomizer, we can provide awall curb that mounts on theside of the shelter. This curbprovides a transition from theexisting openings to a 5 TonComPac II air conditioner.
