On the cover…The splendid Margot Patagonie EX-4E-95, Grand champion at the 2019 Quebec Spring Show for the second year in a row.Patagonie, now nearly 10 years of age, has had very impressive successes in the show rings. Her superior conformation helped her receive the All-Canadian title in the Mature Cow class in 2016, 2017, and 2018. In 6 lactations, Patagonie produced 57,832 kg of milk with 4.4% fat for 2,550 kg and 3.7% of protein for 2,121 kg, for a BCA of 243-263-269 and deviations of +21 +53 +39.She represents perfectly the complete Ayrshire cow sought out by dairy producers: a superb conformation, a very high production with exceptional milk components, an excellent fertility, and an unquestionable longevity. Sincere congratulations to Ferme Margot of Ste-Perpétue, in the province of Québec.

La solidarité des membres envers notre organisation demeure importante. Votre volonté de voir notre association réussir dans ses projets s’exprime par des réponses positives de participation à nos demandes. C’est parfois plus facile de critiquer mais nous n’avons rien à envier à personne et vous devez en être fiers. La vente Élite est un bel exemple de cet appui et demeure un important point de rassemblement printanier. Ayrshire Québec s’était donné le défi d’organiser une vente plus imposante que celles des dernières années. Une drôle d’idée compte tenu du mar-ché, me direz-vous? En effet! Mais ils ont fait face à leur décision, se sont mis au travail et ont foncé tête baissée. Vous avez répondu positivement à ses demandes et avez offert un impressionnant groupe d’animaux. Impressionnant non seulement par le nombre, mais principalement par la qualité du bétail offert. Vous avez aussi répondu positivement en payant des bons prix, malgré un marché qui, faut bien le dire, est depuis un bout de temps « assez morose, merci! ». Cette vente indique le prix du marché pour des bons ani-maux avec des indices génétiques et un niveau de conformation supérieurs. Depuis de nombreuses années, cette vente a large-ment contribué à établir de nouvelles lignées dans bon nombre de troupeaux. Elle est la source de plusieurs familles d’élevage et permet rapidement de compléter votre « équipe de travail ». Une belle marque de générosité de la part de nos jeunes éleveursDans le cadre des activités de l’assemblée générale annuelle, nous avions prévu un encan au profit des activités des jeunes éleveurs Ayrshire des Appalaches, mais une nouvelle a fait changer les plans du comité organisateur. En effet, juste avant les Fêtes de fin d’année 2018, la famille de Mario et Manon Lavoie (Ferme République) de St-Basile au Nouveau Brunswick apprenait que leur fils de 15 ans, Mathieu, était atteint d’un cancer agressif. Apprenant cela, le groupe des jeunes a pris la décision de transférer les profits à Mathieu pour l’appuyer dans son combat. Un encan plus important que prévu et mené de main de maître par monsieur François Beaudry a permis d’amasser une somme de 4810$. Merci aux donateurs des lots mis en vente et aux acheteurs. Merci d’avoir accepté de jouer le jeu!Il faudrait avoir des lunettes roses pour s’imaginer que tout va sur des roulettes et que nous n’avons pas de défis au sein de notre association et de nos clubs locaux. Difficulté de recruter, baisse de participation aux activités traditionnelles, etc… Bref, il faut par-fois savoir tourner la page et provoquer le changement : « Y’a des limites à toute… comme à la soupe aux pois! ». Ces chan-gements apportent leur lot de nouvelles idées, qui sont souvent positives. Prenons, par exemple, les jugements des «Coupe des éleveurs», impensables il y a quelques années à peine, qui per-mettent maintenant le regroupement et une saine compétition. Des activités cette année dans trois clubs (Bedford-St-Hyacinthe, Bas St-Laurent et St-François) ont rempli leur mission. Le Club Ayrshire St-François, près de Sherbrooke au Québec, en était à sa seconde année. Bien que ce club ne dispose que de fonds somme toute limités, les membres ont décidé de tenir l’évènement. La réponse des éleveurs fut encore positive, et l’activité a tenu ses promesses tout en laissant quelques dollars aux clubs. Voilà un autre exemple de réponses positives de la part des membres. C’est un travail de tous les jours que celui de promouvoir la race. Cette tâche ne passera pas que par les réseaux sociaux, et encore moins par les intervenants de l’industrie. La promotion de la race se fera par ses propriétaires, par des réponses positives des éle-veurs. La partie la plus importante de la promotion se fera dans les étables, en améliorant toutes ses performances qui contribuent à sa rentabilité et à sa croissance.

Membership solidarity toward our organization remains strong. Your desire to see our Association achieve success in its projects can be seen through your positive responses to our participation requests. It’s often much easier to criticize, however we have no reason to be envious of anyone and this you must be proud of.The Elite Sale is a good example of this support and remains an important spring-time gathering event. Ayrshire Québec had challenged themselves to organize an even bigger sale than in past years. Quite the idea, given the current market, you may say. Indeed! But they had made their decision, so they set themselves to work and charged full steam ahead.You answered positively to his requests and offered an impressive group of animals. Impressive not only by the quantity, but mainly by the quality of the cattle offered. You also answered positively by paying good prices despite the market, which, it must be said, has been “somewhat sluggish” lately. This sale is an indicator of market prices for good animals with superior genetic indexes and conform-ation level. For several years now, this sale has been contributing significantly to the establishment of new bloodlines in a number of herds. This sale is the starting point of several breeding families and allows you to quickly complete your “work team”.A Very Generous Action by our Ayrshire YouthAs part of our AGM’s activities, we had planned an auction to bene-fit the Club des Appalaches’ Ayrshire Youth; unfortunate news, how-ever, changed the organizing committee’s plans. Effectively, just before the 2018 end-of-year Holidays, Mario and Manon Lavoie’s family (Ferme République), from St-Basile, New Brunswick, learned that their 15 year-old son Mathieu had an aggressive form of can-cer. Upon hearing this news, the youth group made the decision to give all of the profits to Mathieu’s family to support him in his fight against cancer. A larger-than-planned auction, skillfully conducted by Mr. François Beaudry, raised $4810. Thank you to all of the donators who put up lots for sale and the buyers. Thank you for your great participation!On a different note, rose-coloured sunglasses would be required not to see the challenges facing our Association and local Clubs and imagine that everything is going smoothly. Difficulty recruiting mem-bers, lower attendance to traditional activities, etc… Sometimes, you need to know when to turn a new page and provoke change: “There are limits, even to pea soup!”. These changes are generat-ing new ideas, often positive. Take, for example, the Breeders’ Cup competitions, inconceivable just a few years ago, which now allow better grouping and healthy competition. Three Clubs - Bedford-St-Hyacinthe, Bas St-Laurent, and St-François – successfully held such activities last year. For the St-François Ayrshire Club, near Sherbrooke, Québec, it was their second edition. Despite their club’s limited funds, members still made the decision to organize the event. Breeders’ response was once again positive, and the activity lived up to its expectations and even left a few dollars in the clubs’ money chests. And this is just one more example of positive responses from our members. Promoting the breed represents day-to-day work. To accomplish this task, one cannot solely rely on social media, nor on other indus-try shareholders. Breed promotion has to begin with the owners, with positive answers from breeders. The most important part of breed promotion will take place in the barns, by improving our cow’s performance to, in turn, improve its profitability and growth. Have a great summer!

Le 13 avril dernier avait lieu la 17E ÉDITION DE L’AJRQ-GÉNIE organisé par le Cercle des jeunes ruraux de Vaudreuil-Soulanges en Montérégie. Une vingtaine de participants se sont affrontés lors de multiples classes mettant à l’épreuve leurs connais-sances dans différents domaines agricoles. Une nou-veauté cette année, les parents accompagnateurs ont formé une équipe afin de participer à ces différentes classes. La catégorie « Old Timer » est à renouveler sans aucun doute!

À la suite de ces épreuves, les participants ont eu la chance de visiter les installations du programme de Gestion et technologies d’entreprise agricole ainsi que la ferme-école du campus Macdonald. Un grand merci au personnel pour leur accueil chaleureux! Merci au CJR de Vaudreuil-Soulanges pour cette magnifique journée!

MOT DE LA PRÉSIDENTE A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT

Bonjour à tous!J’aimerais tout d’abord débuter en remerciant le conseil d’administration de m’avoir témoigné leur confiance et de m’avoir élue présidente d’Ayrshire Canada. Je ne m’imaginais définitive-ment pas occuper ce poste lors de mes débuts au sein de l’association il y a un peu plus de 10 ans! J’aimerais aussi remercier les membres, qui se déplacent année après année afin de participer à l’élection des administrateurs (et les enlignements) de leurs conseil d’adminis-trations, et encourager les gens à présenter leur candidature. Après tout, Ayrshire Canada, c’est votre organisation!Pour ceux qui ne me connaissent pas encore, je suis une agricultrice de la 8e génération établie dans la région de Sackville au Nouveau-Brunswick. Mon frère et moi formons officiellement un partenariat avec mon père depuis 2004 et détenons un troupeau laitier composé de 110 vaches – toutes des Ayrshires, bien sûr! – sous le préfixe Prospect Acres. À ces débuts, nos animaux n’étaient ni enregistrés, ni inscrits au contrôle laitier, ni classifiés. Beaucoup de changements ont été réalisés lors de nos premières années; malgré cela, il était rapidement devenu évident que, pour atteindre nos objectifs, d’autres changements additionnels étaient requis. C’est suite à nos discussions avec d’autres éleveurs Ayrshire ainsi qu’au travail de sensibilisation du personnel d’Ayrshire Canada que nous avons pris la décision de commencer l’enregistrement, la classification et le contrôle laitier. Avec la prise d’actions cor-rectives lorsque nécessaires, un changement mesurable fut remarqué. Dix années d’amélioration constante de la confor-mation et de la production laitière ont eu pour résultat des vaches plus en santé et plus heureuses qui font notre fierté. À l’instar des visions et objectifs établis dans votre plan visant à améliorer la performance de votre ferme, Ayrshire Canada a entrepris la mise en œuvre de son propre plan stratégique. Des objectifs et échéances mesurables ont été fixés et c’est maintenant à votre conseil d’administration de s’assurer d’atteindre ces objectifs. Le personnel continue, quant à lui, de développer nos relations avec l’industrie en rencontrant régulièrement nos divers partenaires afin de discuter des façons que nous pouvons, ensemble, continuer à améliorer la race Ayrshire. Le changement peut parfois sembler lent ou paraître frustrant, mais le résultat final, ultimement, sera celui de continuer à avoir une vache qui atteint, voire surpasse les besoins de l’industrie laitière actuelle.

Greetings, I’d like to start off by thanking the board of dir-ectors for their vote of confidence in electing me as the president of Ayrshire Canada. It’s definitely a position I did not envision myself in when I first came to the association a little over 10 years ago! I would also like to thank the membership who continue to come out year after year to participate in the election (and direction) of their board members and encour-age people to put their name forward. Ayrshire

Canada after all, your organization. For those whom I have not yet met, I’m an eighth generation farmer from the Sackville, New Brunswick area. My brother and I have been in a formal partnership with our father since 2004, with a milking herd of 110, all Ayrshires of course, under the prefix Prospect Acres. At that time, we were not registering, were not on milk recording, nor classifying our animals. A lot of changes were implemented in those first few years, however it soon become apparent that to continue to meet our goals more changes were to come. Conversations with fellow Ayrshire breeders and outreach from the staff at Ayrshire Canada led to the decision to register, classify and milk record. The result has been measurable change, with corrective actions taken when necessary. Ten years of steady conformation improvement and increased milk production have resulted in healthier, happier cows that we are proud of. Much like the visions and goals set into a plan for improving your farm performance, Ayrshire Canada has been working on implementing its strategic plan. Measurable goals and timelines have been put into place and it is up to your board to ensure these goals are met. Staff continues to build upon our industry relationships with regular meetings to discuss how together we can continue to improve upon the Ayrshire breed. Change can sometimes seem slow and frustrating but the end result will be that we will continue to have a cow that meets and exceeds that needs of today’s dairy industry.

L’assemblée générale annuelle d’Ayrshire Canada étant organisée au Québec, nous avons poursuivi notre collaboration avec la Société Ayrshire du Québec. Ainsi regroupées, nos assemblées conjointes favorisent la participation des membres tout en faisant des économies d’échelle. Madame Joannie Bilodeau et son comité organisateur du Club Ayrshire des Appalaches avaient bien planifié notre séjour. Leur travail a permis de le rendre des plus agréables.

Madame Mary Ellen Trueman dirige maintenant le conseil d’administration d’Ayrshire Canada. Membre du conseil depuis 2016, madame Trueman repré-sente les clubs de l’Atlantique et est copropriétaire de la ferme Prospect Acres au Nouveau-Brunswick. Cette grande voyageuse est très connue du monde Ayrshire, tant ici qu’à l’interna-tional. Son dynamisme se reflète dans toutes les provinces de l’Atlantique. Monsieur Anthony Bilodeau de la région des Appalaches au Québec est la nou-velle recrue au conseil et remplacera monsieur Jonathan Lemay. Monsieur Normand Lapointe fut nommé en rempla-cement de madame Catherine Meunier. Monsieur Lapointe a cependant quitté son poste quelques semaines après l’as-semblée. La Société Ayrshire du Québec devra donc nommer son nouveau repré-sentant issu de son conseil d’administra-tion. Messieurs Mario Lacerte, François Beaudry et madame Caroline Couture (présidente d’Ayrshire Québec) com-plètent les administrateurs de l’Est. Pas de changement au sein des représentants de l’Ouest : M. Duane Tolhurst (Ont.), Mme Eleanor Robinson (Ont.) et M. Oliver Balme (C.-B.) sont toujours en poste.L’Association montre des résultats financiers positifs malgré une légère baisse de ses revenus. Cette tendance à la baisse répétée des revenus ne se répercute pas encore dans les services offerts aux membres, mais il faut tout de même s’y attaquer. Elle nous limite dans certaines activités, telles que la promo-tion de la race, la représentation et les visites aux membres. Des discussions se sont tenues sur la diversité et les ten-dances génétiques de la race. De plus, les membres sont très préoccupés par la lenteur des agences de contrôle laitier à répondre aux demandes des éleveurs et « s’ajuster » aux nouvelles réalités

de production. Ce constat contribue à la baisse et à l’abandon de ces services par les membres, ce qui se répercute à son tour sur la précision de nos indices géné-tiques. Une résolution a été adressée aux organismes concernés à ce sujet.Une demande de changement aux règle-ments administratifs a été approuvée par les membres. Elle touchera l’information qui se retrouve sur les certificats d’enre-gistrement des animaux. Ainsi, pour les femelles dont le pourcentage de pureté se situe entre 87,5 % et 93,75 %, celui-ci sera désormais inscrit sur le certificat. Il s’agit essentiellement d’une précision afin de mieux informer les éleveurs, puisque le niveau de pureté était déjà utilisé dans le calcul de pureté des animaux. Les Fermes Niclau et Des Crêtes (nou-veau Maître-Éleveur) nous attendaient pour les visites de fermes. Deux entre-prises très intéressantes à connaître, avec des philosophies d’élevage dif-férentes. Plus de 600 personnes ont participé aux visites; le choix judicieux des fermes a certainement su attirer l’attention.Le banquet des Maîtres-Éleveurs a vu 2 nouveaux préfixes s’ajouter à cette prestigieuse liste de récipiendaires. Les préfixes Des Crêtes et Cendrillon ont obtenu cette reconnaissance pour la pre-mière fois, suivis du préfixe Plein Soleil pour une seconde fois et, enfin, du préfixe Marbrae, qui se voyait remettre cet hon-neur pour la 4e fois de son histoire. La soirée fut complétée par le couronnement de la gagnante du concours Ayrshire de rêve. C’est De la Plaine Rythm Romi EX-5E-11* qui fut choisie par le vote popu-laire des membres, ainsi le cadeau-sou-venir fut remis par monsieur Daniel Côté, président du CIAQ, à madame Carine Nault et monsieur Jonathan Lemay de la Ferme de La Plaine. Des reconnais-sances ont été remises aux éleveurs s’étant démarqués par leur travail au sein de l’association. Ainsi, monsieur Guy Sim (préfixe Birghdale) a reçu le titre de Membre honoraire à vie, tandis que madame Cynthia Daoust (Cyn Lorr) s’est vu décerner le prix de la Personnalité de l’année. Vous pourrez lire les détails de chacune de leurs histoires plus loin dans ces pages. Pour une seconde année consécutive, Allensite Burdette Cinnamon TB-86, propriété de Shirley Rose, rehausse le standard de production de gras et de

protéine avec 1 472 kg total. Cette pro-duction journalière combinée de 4,82 kg lui permet de remporter les trophées Wes McConnell Memorial (MCR combinée) et Georges N. Pelland (production de proté-ine). La Ferme Saguenayenne remporte le Trophée Hammond Farm pour la meil-leure MCR combinée au Canada avec 298 points. Plusieurs de leurs vaches figurent parmi les meilleures productions. Enfin, Des Fleurs Reality Passion EX-3* est récipiendaire du Trophée Robert E. Ness pour la plus haute production de gras avec 961 kg.La production moyenne des gagnantes des classes de production (Étoiles de production) nous donne des résultats impressionnants, avec : 14 643 kg de lait, 672 kg Gras 4,6%, 478 kg Protéine 3,3% et une MCR de 426-469-424. ■

As Ayrshire Canada’s Annual General Meeting was being held in the pro-vince of Québec, we continued our collaboration with the Société Ayrshire du Québec. Organizing joint AGMs encourages membership participation while benefitting from economies of scale. Ms. Joannie Bilodeau and her organizing committee from the Des Appalaches Ayrshire Club did a great job planning our stay. Their work cer-tainly made it most enjoyable.

Ms. Mary Ellen Trueman now chairs Ayrshire Canada’s Board of Directors. A Board member since 2016, Ms. Trueman represents the Atlantic Clubs and is co-owner of Prospect Acres Farm, in New Brunswick. This avid traveller is very well known in the Ayrshire world, both here at home in Canada and abroad. Her enthusiasm can be felt across all of the Atlantic Provinces.Mr. Anthony Bilodeau, from the Appalaches Region of Québec, is the new recruit on the Board of Directors, replacing Mr. Jonathan Lemay. Mr. Normand Lapointe was nominated in replacement of Ms. Catherine Meunier, however he left his position a few weeks after the AGM. As such, the Société Ayrshire du Québec will have to nominate a new representative from their Board of Directors. Mr. Mario Lacerte, Mr. François Beaudry, and Ms. Caroline Couture (Ayrshire Québec President) complete the team of Directors from the East. There are no changes among the representa-tives from the West: Mr. Duane Tolhurst (ON), Ms. Eleanor Robinson (ON), and Mr. Oliver Balme (BC) remain in function. The Association is showing positive finan-cial results despite a slight decrease in revenue. There has been no impact yet in the services offered to members from this repeated downward trend in revenue, nevertheless this issue must be tackled. It

is limiting us in some of our activities, such as breed promotion, representation, and member visits. Discussions were held on the breed’s genetic diversity and trends. Furthermore, members are preoccupied by the milk recording agencies’ slowness to respond to breeders’ requests and “adjust” to new production realities. This observation contributes to the decline and abandon of these services by members, which, in turn, affects the accuracy of our genetic indexes. A resolution pertaining to this subject was addressed to the organ-izations concerned. A Bylaws change request was approved by members, regarding the information found on the animal registration cer-tificates. For females featuring a purity percentage between 87.5% and 93.75%, their percentage will henceforth be writ-ten on their certificate. This specification is essentially to better inform breeders, as these purity levels are already being used to calculate animal purity. Ferme Niclau and Ferme Des Crêtes (new Master Breeder) were expecting us for the farm visits. Two very interesting busi-nesses that all should get to know, with different breeding philosophies. More than 600 people took part in the visits; the judi-cious farm choice clearly drew attention. The Master Breeder Banquet revealed the addition of 2 new prefixes to this pres-tigious recipient list. Prefixes Des Crêtes and Cendrillon both obtained this recog-nition for the first time, while prefix Plein Soleil received this honour for the 2nd time and prefix Marbrae, for the 4th time in its history. The evening ended with the coronation of the Dream Ayrshire Contest winner. It’s De la Plaine Rhythm Romi EX-5E-11* that was chosen by popular member vote. As such, CIAQ President Mr. Daniel Côté presented a memento to Ms. Carine Nault and Mr. Jonathan Lemay from Ferme de La Plaine. Recognitions

were awarded also to breeders having distinguished themselves through their work within the Association. Mr. Guy Sim (prefix Birghdale) thus received the Honorary Life Member Award, while Ms. Cynthia Daoust (Cyn Lorr) was the recipi-ent of the Award of Merit. Greater details on their respective stories can be found further in this issue.For a second consecutive year, Allensite Burdette Cinnamon VG-86, property of Shirley Rose, raises the fat and protein production standard with a total of 1,472 kg. This daily composite production of 4.82 kg earns her both the Wes McConnell Memorial Award (Highest Composite BCA) and the Georges N. Pelland Award (Highest Protein Yield). PERSONNALITÉ DE L’ANNÉE / AWARD OF MERIT

CYNTHIA DAOUSTLe prix Personnalité de l’année d’Ayrshire Canada est remis pour souligner l’implication et le travail d’un membre envers notre Association. La nouvelle récipiendaire cadre parfaitement avec l’esprit même de cette reconnaissance. C’est après des études universi-taires à Guelph, en Ontario, que Cynthia Daoust décide de se lan-cer dans l’élevage Ayrshire. En 1997, lors de l’assemblée géné-rale annuelle d’Ayrshire Canada à Bromont, Cynthia Daoust décide enfin d’officialiser son attirance et de jeter son dévolu sur son prince charmant francophone. En atten-dant d’acquérir la ferme familiale, ils décident conjointement de s’établir dans la région de Beauharnois, près de Montréal au Québec. Telle une enchanteresse, elle attire notre beau Québécois dans son tourbillon d’aventures et, finalement, dans l’Est de l’Ontario. À ses propres dires, Bernard accepte avec résilience mais toujours avec beaucoup de plaisir les répercus-sions et soubresauts du rythme de vie endiablé de Cynthia. Tout en maintenant les rennes de la vie familiale et la gestion du troupeau Cyn Lorr, elle n’oublie pas de s’impliquer dans sa com-munauté locale en tant que parent supporteur de l’équipe de bal-lon-balai des jeunes de la région, dans le club de 4H ou, encore, comme membre de différents comités agricoles de la région de Finch. Et tout cela ne représente que quelques exemples. Organisatrice dévouée et acharnée, elle respecte toujours ses engagements. Bien sûr, elle a son style et sa façon de faire les choses, mais, croyez-moi, nous ne pourrons jamais lui enlever son dévouement pour notre Association. Cynthia a toujours apprécié tant exposer que juger des Ayrshires. Elle est d’ailleurs la première femme à figurer sur la Liste Ayrshire officielle, ayant jugé au fil du temps des com-pétitions de jeunes ruraux et d’autres ouvertes à tous dans 3 provinces ainsi que dans l’État de New York.Le Comité d’amélioration de la race peut compter sur sa pré-sence et ses judicieux conseils depuis 21 ans. Elle était la présidente du comité quand les buts et objectifs de notre race ont été initiés. À chaque année, elle participe à la tenue des kiosques du Club Ayrshire de l’Ontario à deux très importants salons agricoles provinciaux. Membre fondatrice du conseil d’administration et présidente du Comité conjoint de clas-sification, elle a travaillé à l’unification du service de clas-sification actuel. En 2009 et 2012, elle orchestrait l’activité des Jeunes éleveurs Ayrshire internationaux ici au Canada en collaboration avec Ayrshire Canada et le club Ayrshire Grenville-Dundas-Stormont. L’an dernier, elle a pris sous son aile la tenue de l’assemblée annuelle de notre association nationale, ce qui a grandement contribué à sa réussite. Avec le dévouement qu’elle manifeste pour la race, on aime croire qu’elle lui permet de mettre de la couleur dans sa vie! Madame Cynthia Daoust, les membres du conseil d’adminis-tration d’Ayrshire Canada sont très fiers de vous présenter le titre de la Personnalité Ayrshire de l’année 2018.Félicitations!

Ayrshire Canada’s Award of Merit is given each year to a member to recognize their involvement and work in our Association. This year’s recipient perfectly embod-ies the spirit of this Award.Following Agricultural studies in Guelph, Ontario, Cynthia Daoust started her own Ayrshire breeding In 1991. At ‘97 Ayrshire Canada’s AGM in Bromont, Cynthia Daoust decided to make official her attraction for her French-speaking Prince Charming, whom she had set her sights on. They together decided to settle in the Beauharnois region, near Montréal, Québec. She and her

handsome Quebecer continued their whirlwind of adventures and, finally resided in Eastern Ontario. By his own admission, Bernard accepts resiliently, yet with always a lot of pleasure, the jolts and repercussions of Cynthia’s boisterous lifestyle. While maintaining a strong hold on family life and the management of the Cyn Lorr herd, she never forgets to get involved in her local community as a parent supporter of the local broomball youth team, in the 4-H or as a member on the various agricultural committees across the Finch region. And these are only a few examples. A devoted and relentless organizer, she always honours her commitments. She obviously has her own personal style and her own way of doing things, but, believe me, we could never take away her dedication toward our Association.Cynthia has always enjoyed showing and judging Ayrshires. She is the first women on the Ayrshire Official List, over time having judged youth and open shows in 3 provinces and New York State. The Breed Improvement Committee has been able to count on her presence and wise counsel over the last 21 years. She was chair when the Goalsand Objectives of our breed were initiated. Each year, she participates in manning the Ayrshire Ontario booth at two very important industry events. Cynthia worked on and later chaired the committee charged with developing the current classification services. In 2009 and 2012, she organized the International Ayrshire Youth events here in Canada in collaboration with the Grenville-Dundas-Stormont Ayrshire Club and Ayrshire Canada. Last year, she took the responsibility of holding our national Association’s AGM, which greatly contributed to its success. With her unmistakable dedication to the breed, we like to think that it brings colour into her life!Ms. Cynthia Daoust, the members of Ayrshire Canada’s Board of Directors are very proud to present you with the 2018 Award of Merit. HONORARY LIFE MEMBER / MEMBRE HONORAIRE À VIE

GUY SIMC’est en 1912 que débute l ’histoire, lorsque les grands-parents maternels de Guy Sim, George et Mabel Loban, immigrent au Canada et choisissent de s’installer dans la Vallée de Comox, en Colombie-Britannique, et d’y acheter une ferme. En 1920, ils vendent cette ferme afin d’acheter Birkdale - la ferme actuelle - où ils y t trayaient des Jerseys. En 1946, Alex Sim épouse Sybil Loban, la fille de George et Mabel, et c’est ensemble qu’ils achètent Birkdale, la ferme des parents de Sybil, en 1950. Comme Alex aime beaucoup la race Ayrshire, il entame alors une transition du troupeau vers celle-ci, achetant ses premières Ayrshires de Charles Dawson de Dawsondale Ayrshires à Nanoose Bay, CB.Après le secondaire, Guy étudie au Collège Olds, travaille loin de la ferme et voyage à travers l’Europe, profitant de ces occa-sions pour visiter quelques troupeaux Ayrshire. En 1970, Guy et son père, Alex, concluent un partenariat afin d’exploiter la ferme ensemble. Au fil des années, il acquiert plusieurs autres animaux, dont deux vaches qui deviendront les vaches éleveuses du trou-peau : La première fut Fintry Last Girl, qui produira les lignées Michelle, Nedra, Merry, Nicole, Naomi et Natasha, ainsi que plus tard Haughlands Comfort, qui, elle, produira les lignées Countess et Fraulein. De ces lignées seront également issus de nombreux taureaux, dont plusieurs qui se classeront éven-tuellement parmi les meilleurs taureaux éprouvés. Birghdale Nick devient notamment le meilleur taureau de son époque pour le rendement en gras. Parmi les autres taureaux notables, soulignons Birghdale Copper et Birghdale Tradition. À travers les années, son troupeau se hisse plusieurs fois dans le « top 10 » de la production au Canada, et ses vaches remportent de nombreux prix de production à vie. Le troupeau de Guy Sim est à 100 % Ayrshire et c’est un membre de longue date d’Ayrshire Canada. Lors de la Conférence mon-diale Ayrshire au Kenya, il était l’un des trois jeunes passionnés Ayrshire à y faire une présentation. Il a siégé au conseil d’admi-nistration d’Ayrshire Canada à titre d’administrateur et en fut le président en 1993, organisant l’assemblée générale annuelle à Comox, sur l’Île de Vancouver, en 1994. Il fait partie du comité d’amélioration de la race depuis plusieurs années et il supporte la classe de génisse junior Ayrshire à la Foire royale d’hiver.Ayrshire Canada est fier de décerner à M. Guy Sim la recon-naissance de membre honoraire à vie.Sincères félicitations.

The story starts in 1912 when Guy Sim’s grandparents George and Mabel Loban immigrated to Canada and settled in the Comox Valley, where they purchased a farm. In 1920, they sold that farm and purchased the present farm, Birkdale Farm, where they milked Jerseys. In 1946, Alex Sim married Sybil Loban and, in 1950, they bought Birkdale Farm from Sybil’s parents, George and Mabel. Alex Sim liked Ayrshires so he began the process of switch-ing to Ayrshires. He bought his first ones from Charles

Dawson of Dawsondale Ayrshires in Nanoose Bay, BC.After high school, Guy attended Olds College, worked away from the farm, and travelled Europe, visiting quite a few Ayrshire herds on his way. In 1970, Guy and his father, Alex, entered into a partnership to run the farm. Over the years, he acquired other animals, buying two cows that would become the brood cows for the herd: The first one was Fintry Last Girl, so named because she was the last registered Ayrshire from a well-known Fintry herd of Capt. Dunwaters, producing the Michelle, Nedra, Merry, Nicole, Naomi, and Natasha bloodlines, and later Haughlands Comfort, producing the Countess and Fraulein bloodlines. Out of these bloodlines also came many bulls, and many of them have gone on to be top proven sires. Birghdale Nick became the top fat bull of his time. Other notable bulls include Birghdale Copper and Birghdale Tradition. His herd has also been in the top ten for production in Canada many times over the years and his cows have won many lifetime production awards.Guy Sim’s herd is a 100% Ayrshire and he is a longtime mem-ber of Ayrshire Canada. At the Ayrshire World Conference in Kenya, he was one of three Young Ayrshire Enthusiasts to make a presentation. He has served as Director on the Board of Ayshire Canada and was president in 1993, holding the Annual Meeting in Comox, on Vancouver Island, in 1994. He is also a member of the Breed Improvement Committee for many years and supported the Royal Winter Fair’s Ayrshire Junior Calf Class.Ayrshire Canada is proud to award Mr. Guy Sim as Honorary Life Member.Sincere congratulations!

MAÎTRE-ÉLEVEUR / MASTER BREEDER

Dans le club Ayrshire du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, le préfixe CENDRILLON est synonyme de succès aux expositions, ayant remporté plusieurs titres de Grande championne et de Championne de réserve ainsi que de nombreuses bannières juniors et séniors.Roberto Dufour a fait l’acquisition de la ferme de son père, Jacques, en 2003, deve-nant ainsi la quatrième génération. Le quota détenu était alors de 26,64 kg/jour. Dès l’achat, d’importants travaux de bâtiments ont été réalisés pour améliorer la commo-dité du travail et le confort des animaux. L’un des deux bâtiments de ferme déjà existant fut complètement réaménagé. Par la suite, une vacherie, achetée d’un producteur ayant récemment vendu son quota, fut déménagée, venant ainsi compléter le projet de traire 59 vaches.L’amour et la passion de la génétique sont les principales sources de motivation du travail quotidien. Plus de 27 vaches Excellente ont été élevées à la ferme. Cendrillon Tomahawk Ghislaine EX-92 6* a reçu le plus haut pointage. Comme autre coup de cœur, on note Cendrillon Kellybuck Manda EX-90 2*, qui s’est fait beaucoup remarquée en 2011 en rapportant le trophée de Championne de réserve à St-Félicien, en plus de sa nomination Toute-Canadienne et de sa participation comme « cover girl » dans la revue Ayrshire. Manda est la première de trois générations Excellente. Mais la plus grande fierté est sans aucun doute celle d’avoir élevé Cendrillon Ankazou Talma TB-88 à 2 ans. En 2012, cette vache a gagné la classe 2 ans sénior à la Royale et a été Tout-Québec et Toute-Canadienne. À 2 ans et huit mois, Talma a produit 8,822 kg à 4,2 % de gras et 3,6 % de protéine pour une MCR de 283-285-309; une vache exceptionnelle, que Roberto n’est pas prêt d’oublier. La mère de Talma, Cendrillon Ripken Taline EX-90 2*, a pour sa part été une très bonne éleveuse puisque deux sœurs de Talma, Cendrillon Normandin Line et Cendrillon Piékouagami Talina, sont respectivement EX-90 1* et EX-91 3E. De cette même famille, Cendrillon T-Bruno Rubis BP-84 a produit 80,000 kg en 8 lactations. Plusieurs autres vaches ont aussi contribué à obtenir amplement le titre de Maître-Éleveur, dont Cendrillon Ripken Cindianna TB-88, Cendrillon Nolan Abelle TB-88 et Cendrillon Orraryd Indienne TB-87.En 2015, pour envisager l’établissement de Francis, la jeune relève, et dans le but d’améliorer encore la productivité laitière, un autre projet de rénovation a été fait. Un plus grand confort a été apporté aux stalles existantes, un nouveau clos libre fut construit pour les vaches taries et la fosse à fumier couverte a été transformée en stabulation libre pour les génisses d’élevage. La traite de 85 vaches est maintenant rendu possible grâce à ce nouvel investissement.Aujourd’hui, la ferme détient un quota de 91 kg/jour. L’objectif dans la prochaine année est d’obtenir un total de 100 kg/jour. La classifica-tion des 2 races combinées est de 12 Excellente, 38 Très Bonne, 29 Bonne Plus et 2 Bonne. La moyenne Ayrshire est de 8,380 kg avec des composantes de 4,2 % de gras et 3,4 % de protéine.Jacques a consacré beaucoup de son temps sur la ferme jusqu’à l’année dernière. À 80 ans, il mérite une très belle retraite. Maintenant, la ferme compte sur l’aide de Francis, qui est entouré du support d’une très bonne équipe, soit Jean-François, Olivier et Étienne, la plus jeune recrue, qui viennent tous contribuer au succès de l’entreprise. Pour sa part, Mélanie, la conjointe de Roberto, qui est experte-conseil chez Nutrinor Agriculture, s’occupe principalement de l’alimentation du troupeau et de quelques autres tâches.Ayrshire Canada offre ses sincères félicitations à la ferme Cendrillon pour son titre de Maître-Éleveur.

Within the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean Ayrshire Club, the CENDRILLON pre-fix is synonymous with show success, having won several Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion titles as well as numerous Junior and Senior Banners.Roberto Dufour acquired the farm from his father, Jacques, in 2003, becoming the fourth generation. The farm then held a quota of 26.64 kg/day. Soon after the purchase, important building works were completed to improve both the ease of working and animal comfort. One of the previously existing farm buildings

was completely redesigned. Then, a cow barn - bought from a producer who had recently sold his quota – was moved, achieving as such their project goal of milking 59 cows.Love and passion for genetics are the main sources of motivation for their daily work. More than 27 Excellent cows have been bred at the farm. Cendrillon Tomahawk Ghislaine EX-92 6* received the highest score. Another favorite is Cendrillon Kellybuck Manda EX-90 2*, who truly distinguished herself in 2011 by winning the Reserve Champion trophy in St-Félicien, in addition to her All-Canadian nomination and her participation as “cover girl” in the Ayrshire Review. Manda is the first of three Excellent generations. Their biggest pride is undoubtedly having bred Cendrillon Ankazou Talma VG-88 at 2 years of age. In 2012, this cow won the Senior 2-Year-Old class at the Royal, and was the All-Québec and All-Canadian winner. At the age of 2 years and 8 months, Talma produced 8,822 kg of milk at 4.2% fat and 3.6% pro-tein, with a BCA of 283-285-309. Roberto will never forget this excep-tional cow. Talma’s dam, Cendrillon Ripken Taline EX-90 2*, has been a very good brood cow, as Talma’s two sisters Cendrillon Normandin Line and Cendrillon Piékouagami Talina are respectively EX-90 1* and EX-91 3E. From this same family, Cendrillon T-Bruno Rubis GP-84 has produced 80,000 kg in 8 lactations. Several other cows have also greatly contributed to obtaining this Master Breeder Award, among others: Cendrillon Ripken Cindianna VG-88, Cendrillon Nolan Abelle VG-88, and Cendrillon Orraryd Indienne VG-87.In 2015, to plan for the next generation and to further improve dairy performance, another renovation project was undertaken. A greater level of comfort was brought to the existing stalls, a new free stall was built for dry cows, and the covered manure pit was transformed into a free-stalled barn for heifer calves. Thanks to this new investment, it is now possible to milk 85 cows.Currently, the farm has a quota of 91 kg/day. Next year’s objective is to obtain a total of 100 kg/day. The combined classification for the 2 breeds is as follows: 12 Excellent, 38 Very Good, 29 Good Plus, and 2 Good. Their Ayrshire average is 8,380 kg with components of 4.2% fat and 3.4% protein.Jacques gave a lot of his time to the farm up until last year. At the age of 80, he now enjoys a well-earned retirement. The farm now relies on the help of Francis, who is surrounded by a solid support team made of Jean-François, Olivier, and Étienne, the latest recruit, all of whom are contributing of the business’ success. Roberto’s partner, Mélanie, works for her part as an expert consultant for Nutrinor Agriculture and is responsible mainly for the herd’s feeding program, in addition to a few other tasks. En 1960, suite à une reloca-lisation, l’histoire de la Ferme des Crêtes débutait à l’endroit actuel, soit à Saint-Agapit au Québec. La race Ayrshire fut toujours la base du trou-peau Des Crêtes, et ce, dès les débuts de Charles-Émile Bilodeau quelques années auparavant. Avec les années, le contrôle officiel ainsi que les participations aux expositions ont pris place dans l’entre-prise. En 1992, Clément prit le relais de l’entreprise avec une quarantaine de têtes pur-sang ainsi que 12 kg de quo-tas. Quelques années plus tard, Christiane devint aussi sociétaire avec Clément. En 2018, David, la 3e génération de l’entreprise, est devenu à son tour sociétaire de la ferme, qui compte maintenant 85 têtes et 45 kg de quotas.

En 2002, une vacherie et la fosse à fumier furent construites. En 2018, les propriétaires ont également procédé à la construction d’un silo hermétique pour l’ensilage de maïs ainsi qu’à l’installation d’un mélangeur vertical pour l’alimentation du troupeau. Au fil des ans, il y a eu aussi l’acquisition et l’amélioration du fond de terre, ainsi que l’amélioration du confort des animaux.

La classification du troupeau est de 5 Excellente mul-tiples, 2 Excellente, 21 Très Bonne, 24 Bonne Plus et 2 Bonne. La production est de 8,200 kg, pour une MCR de 232-233-233.

La sélection des meilleurs sujets des bonnes familles de la ferme ainsi que les transplantations embryonnaires per-mettent au troupeau Des Crêtes de progresser année après année. Notons, entre autres, la famille de Des Crêtes Tielleuse TB-85 3*, qui a eu 4 filles qui ont toutes été classifiées Excellente. Issus de cette famille, nous retrouvons également Des Crêtes Durango, chez Semex, ainsi que plusieurs vaches qui se démarquent autant que leurs prédécesseurs. La production et une bonne conformation font partie des critères de sélection de tous les jours dans le troupeau. Enfin, les familles de Des Crêtes Mincette TB-86 1* et la descendance de Des Crêtes Douce TB-85 3* ont grandement contribué au cumulatif des points pour le titre de Maître-Éleveur.

Ayrshire est fier de présenter à la Ferme Des Crêtes le titre de Maître-Éleveur.

In 1960, following a move, the history of Ferme Des Crêtes began at its current location in Saint-Agapit, Québec. The Ayrshire breed had always formed the basis of the Des Crêtes herd and, this, since its beginnings with Charles-Émile Bilodeau a few years earlier. Over the years, milk recording and show participations were added to their business activities. In 1992, Clément took over the farming business, then comprising approximately

40 head of purebred cattle and 12 kg of quotas. A few years later, Christiane also became a shareholder alongside Clément. Finally, in 2018, it was David’s turn – representing the 3rd generation – to become a shareholder in the farm, which now counts 85 animal and 45 kg of quotas.

In 2002, a cow barn and the manure storage pit were built. In 2018, the owners also undertook the construction of an airtight silo for corn silage as well as the installation of a vertical feed mixer. Over the years, they also focused on land acquisition and improvement as

well as improving animal comfort.

Their herd classification is as follows: 5 Multiple Excellent, 2 Excellent, 21 Very Good, 24 Good Plus, and 2 Good. The milk production is 8,200 kg, with a BCA of

232-233-233.

Year after year, selecting the best animals from their good breeding families as well as embryo transfers allow the Des Crêtes herd to successfully progress. Among their biggest achievements, we note the family of Des Crêtes Tielleuse TB-85 3*, who had 4 daughters

Le préfixe Marbrae est asso-cié à une très belle histoire de famille. C’est en 1911 qu’Albert Macfarlane s’établit avec son modeste troupeau d’Ayrshires pur-sang sur une ferme de 100 acres à Howick, au Québec. Il transmet sa passion de l’élevage à son fils Brodie, qui continue à son tour à élargir et développer tant la ferme que le troupeau, menant ainsi Marbrae à son premier titre de Maître-Éleveur en 1965. Brian devient par la suite partenaire avec Brodie en 1984; s’ajoute ensuite à leurs côtés la femme de Brian, Holly Mason, en 1993. Au cours des 20 années suivantes, la ferme ainsi que le troupeau continuent de prendre de l’expansion et c’est en 2013 que la compagnie Marbrae Enterprises est formée avec leur fils aîné, Dale. Rachel travaille à temps plein à la ferme, tandis que Julie est représentante en services-conseils au CIAQ. Kevin, pour sa part, est en première année de CÉGEP au Collège John Abbott. Julie et Kevin sont tous deux énergiques et contribuent à l’émergence de nouvelles idées à la ferme.

De génération en génération, notre philosophie est toujours restée la même : élever des vaches hautement product-ives, efficaces, sans problèmes et avec une bonne conformation.

Un des objectifs de Marbrae est d’améliorer le poten-tiel génétique. En utilisant le génotypage comme outil, nous pouvons sélectionner les meilleurs animaux pour les transferts embryonnaires à la ferme ainsi que pour le programme Évolution ET du CIAQ.

Pour l’année 2017, la moyenne de notre troupeau était (74 relevés) de 8,892 kg, à 4,36 % de gras et 3,27 % de protéine, avec une MCR de 251 265 251.

Le développement de familles de vaches à la ferme Marbrae nous a aidés à amener notre troupeau à son niveau actuel. Les vaches suivantes ont toutes contribué fortement, chacune à leur manière, à bâtir la génération suivante et à laisser un héritage : Marbrae Persis EX 92 4E 6*, Marbrae BBBK Peta -ET EX 94 3E 9*, Marbrae Blue Ice EX 93 6E 2*, Marbrae Valius TB 88 3*, Marbrae Rhythm’s Petal EX 91 8E et Marbrae Peru EX 94 4E 1*. Certaines de ces vaches nous ont honorés de leur présence, tandis que d’autres participent encore au développement de notre troupeau, mais elles ont toutes largement contribué à l’obtention de notre 4e plaque de Maître-Éleveur.

À mesure qu’évolue l’industrie laitière, nous demeurons extrêmement confiants en notre belle race.

The Marbrae prefix has a very dear history of family. Beginning in 1911, Albert MacFarlane began his modest herd of purebred Ayrshires on a farm of 100 acres in Howick, Quebec. Passing on this passion of farming to his son, Brodie continued to grow and develop his farm size and herd, winning Marbrae’s first Master breeder title in 1965. Brian joined Brodie in a partnership in 1984, and then Brian’s wife, Holly Mason joined the busi-

ness in 1993. The farm and herd continued to grow over the next 20 years and in 2013 Marbrae Enterprises was formed with their oldest son, Dale creating a com-pany. Rachel works full time on the farm, while Julie is a consulting services representative for CIAQ. Kevin is a first year CEGEP student at John Abbott College. Both Julie and Kevin are energetic and help bring new ideas to the farm.

From generation to generation, our philosophy has always been the same. To breed high producing, correct conformation, efficient, and

trouble free cows.

One of Marbrae’s goals is increasing genetic potential. By using genotyping as a tool, we can select our top animals for embryo transfers at the farm, and for the ET

Evolution Program at CIAQ.

Le préfixe Plein Soleil a vu le jour dans les années 80 alors que les premières Ayrshires font leur entrée à la ferme. En 1999, Jean-Yves devient la cinquième génération sur l’entreprise familiale. En 2011, le transfert est offi-ciellement complété et Jean-Yves et Jessie deviennent actionnaires à parts égales et forment la compagnie Ferme Plein Soleil (2010) inc.

Depuis 2009, la ferme a toujours misé sur l’amélioration de l’entreprise : construction d’une étable froide pour taures et vaches taries, construction d’une nouvelle laiterie, automatisa-tion de l’alimentation, prolongement de la vacherie et confort aux animaux sont des exemples d’investissements réalisés pour atteindre d’ambitieux objectifs. Les deux actionnaires ont toujours la volonté d’augmenter leurs performances sur tous les points.

Le troupeau Plein Soleil est, pour ses propriétaires, un équilibre entre la produc-tion, la conformation et la longévité. Il est formé d’animaux d’ex-ception qui élèvent très bien et se démarquent côté production. Il est aujourd’hui principalement constitué de la même famille souche, celle des « H ». Certaines se démarquent du lot, notamment Plein Soleil Hava TB 87 1* et Plein Soleil Heyda EX 90 2E 1*, ainsi que leurs descendances.

La production se situe à 9,400 kg à 4.25% de gras et 3.4% de protéine. Jean-Yves et Jessie ont pour but de produire un lait à faible coût, ce qui les situe dans le 20% supérieur pour le coût de production à l’hectolitre. Dans leurs croisements, leur vision est de choisir en fonction des critères suivants : kg de lait, % gras, et % protéine, tout cela en conservant la conformation. C’est ce qui contribue à faire évoluer leur troupeau avec des ani-maux qui sauront transmettre positivement leurs gènes à travers les années.

Jean-Yves et Jessie ont une vie bien remplie entre l’entreprise et la famille. Ils sont les parents de deux jeunes garçons qui s’impliquent à leur façon dans les tâches quotidiennes à la ferme. Pour facili-ter la conciliation travail-famille, ils ont amorcé le 3 traites en avril 2016. Ayant pour but de toujours évoluer à travers leur entreprise, ce changement leur a permis, en plus, de faire l’achat de quota sup-plémentaire dans les infrastructures déjà en place.

Ce deuxième titre de maître éleveur se veut une reconnaissance pour tous les efforts que Jean-Yves et Jessie mettent à tous les jours. C’est avec leur complicité et leur complémentarité qu’ils veulent continuer à faire évoluer leur entreprise. Ce n’est pas toujours facile de travailler avec la personne qui partage notre vie, mais pour eux, c’est un défi qui les pousse à toujours se dépasser.

The Plein Soleil prefix came about in the 1980s when Ayrshires first made their entry into the farm. In 1999, Jean-Yves became the 5th genera-tion on the family farm. The trans-fer was officially completed in 2011, when Jean-Yves and Jessie became equal shareholders and established their company: Ferme Plein Soleil (2010) Inc.

Since 2009, the farm has been focus-ing constantly on business improve-ment. Building a cold barn for heifers and dry cows, building a new dairy, automation of the feed, expansion of the cow barn, and animal comfort, such are examples of the investment made to reach their ambitious object-ives. Both partners are truly commit-ted to improving their performance in all areas of the farm business.

To its owners, the Plein Soleil herd strikes a nice balance between pro-

duction, conformation, and longevity. The herd is composed of exceptional animals breeding very well and distinguishes itself in production. Today’s herd mainly stems from the same founding family: the “H” Family. A few cows particularly stand out, notably Plein Soleil Hava VG 87 1* and Plein Soleil Heyda EX

90 2E 1*, along with their descendants.

The herd production amounts to 9,400 kg, with 4.25% fat and 3.4% protein. Jean-Yves and Jessie’s goal is to produce low-cost milk, an endeavour which ranks them in the top 20% for cost of production per hecto-

liter. Their breeding approach is to select based on the following criteria: kg of milk, % of fat, and % of protein, all

of this while maintaining conformation. This is what con-tributes to the development of their herd, with animals that will favourably pass on their genetics through the years.

Jean-Yves and Jessie are living a full life between their business and their family. They are the proud parents of

two boys, who participate in their own way in the daily farm chores. To facilitate a work-life balance, they introduced three-times-a-day milking in April 2016. In keeping with their goal to always evolve within their business, this change also allowed them to purchase additional quota with the installations already in place.

This second Master Breeder Award is seen as a recognition of all of Jean-Yves and Jessie’s daily hard work. It is with their special bond and complementarity that they wish to continue developing their farming business. Working with your life partner is not always easy, yet, for them, this is a challenge that pushes them to always surpass themselves.

NOUVELLES DES AGA PROVINCIALES

LE CLUB AYRSHIRE DU NOUVEAU-BRUNSWICK tenait son assemblée générale dans la région de Bathurst cette année le 12 avril dernier. C’était donc au tour des éleveurs du Nord-Est du Nouveau-Brunswick de rece-voir les membres. Depuis bon nombre d’années, le club se fait un devoir de tenir les assemblées dans chacun des coins de la province. Monsieur John Riordon (préfixe Riordon) demeure à la présidence du club et sera secondé par Andrew Hornbrook (Landslide) à titre de vice-président. Suite à l’AGA, les mem-bres ont visité les nouvelles installations en traite robotisée de la Ferme Riordon et ont complété la journée à la Ferme de monsieur Percy Scott (Beach Way).

LE CLUB AYRSHIRE DE L’ONTARIO avait convié ses membres les 7 et 8 mars derniers au sein du Club du District de Toronto. Le conseil d’administration, présidé par Brian Mitchell (préfixe Silver Cedar), est composé de messieurs Bernard Daoust (Cyn Lorr), Robert Lancaster (Misty Meadows), Chuck Mattice (Hickory Grove) et John Ahrens (Ayr Wyn Dale). Madame Eleanor Robinson (Tilecroft) et monsieur Duane Tolhurst (Cronus) complètent l’équipe

à titre de directeurs nationaux. Lors du souper de clôture de l’AGA, le talent d’orateur de monsieur Scott Jermey a été mis à profit pour souligner le travail d’une vie d’élevage de M. John A. Holm (Autumn View). Deux visites de ferme complétaient notre séjour dans le Sud de l’Ontario. Premier arrêt : une tour-née de l’imposant troupeau Pine Plains de M. Scott Jermey. Après quelques bouchées généreusement offertes par la famille Jermey, nous nous sommes dirigés vers le troupeau Glen Robert. Nous y avons trouvé une nouvelle ins-tallation de traite robotisée mais, sur-tout, un troupeau toujours aussi impres-sionnant. Chez la famille Powell & Julia Reichl, le club en a profité pour remettre à Glen Powell une veste afin de souli-gner la haute production (de 102 163 kg de lait en 10 lactations) de Glen Robert Samantha TB-85.

Enfin, pour LA SOCIÉTÉ AYRSHIRE DU QUÉBEC, un changement aux règlements administratifs fut adopté le 1er mars 2019, permettant le regrou-pement des membres des Clubs Laurentien et Pontiac à ceux du Club Howick-Huntingdon. Les membres du conseil d’administration ont décidé

d’élire madame Caroline Couture (Du Petit Lac) à titre de présidente. Madame Jessie Rioux (Plein Soleil), représen-tante de l’Est du Québec et Bas-St-Laurent, siègera comme vice-présidente et sera secondée par monsieur Jacques Daoust (St-Clément) du Club Howick-Huntingdon et par monsieur Mario Lacerte (Marilie) du Club Rive-Nord. M. Claude Larocque (Laroc), représen-tant le Club de Bedford-St-Hyacinthe, et M. Steve Lacroix (Bellevue du Lac), du Club des Appalaches, complèteront l’équipe de direction pour leur premier mandat chacun. Suite à la décision de monsieur Normand Lapointe, le poste du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean est désor-mais libre. Deux résolutions ont été approuvées par les membres et diri-gées à Ayrshire Canada. La première s’adresse à la Foire royale de Toronto et vise l’amélioration des services offerts aux exposants. La seconde est, quant à elle, adressée aux agences de contrôle laitier et a pour but l’amélioration de leurs services de prise de données. ■

Club Ayrshire de l’Ontario: Glen Powell, Bernard Daoust & Julia Reichl.



THE NEW BRUNSWICK AYRSHIRE CLUB held its Annual General Meeting this year in the Bathurst region last April 12. It was effectively the turn of the New Brunswick’s North-Eastern breeders to host their fellow members. For several years now, this Club has made a point of hosting its annual meetings in each of the various corners of the province. Mr. John Riordon (prefix Riordon) remains President of the Club, and he will be seconded by Andrew Hornbrook (prefix Landslide) who will be acting as Vice-President. After the AGM, members vis-ited the new automatic milking parlour at Riordon Farms and ended their day at Mr. Percy Scott’s farm (Beach Way).

THE ONTARIO AYRSHIRE CLUB invited its members to attend its meet-ing in the Toronto District Club last March 7 and 8. Chaired by President Brian Mitchell (prefix Silver Cedar), the Board of Directors is composed of Mr. Bernard Daoust (Cyn Lorr), Mr. Robert Lancaster (Misty Meadows), Mr. Chuck Mattice (Hickory Grove), and Mr. John Ahrens (Ayr Wyn Dale). Ms. Eleanor Robinson (Tilecroft) and Mr. Duane Tolhurst (Cronus) complete the team as National Directors. At the AGM closing

dinner, Mr. Scott Jermey’s exceptional oratory skills were exploited to highlight the lifetime breeding achievement of Mr. John A. Holm (Autumn View). Two farm visits completed our stay in Southern Ontario. First stop was the visit of Mr. Scott Jermey’s large Pine Plains herd. After some tasty nibbles generously offered by the Jermey Family, we then headed toward the Glen Robert herd. There we found a new automatic milk-ing parlour, but - mainly - a herd still as impressive as ever. At the Powell’s, the Club took the opportunity to present Glen Powell & Julia Reichl with a jacket to highlight the high production (102,163 kg of milk in 10 lactations) of Glen Robert Samantha VG-85.

Finally, for THE SOCIÉTÉ AYRSHIRE DU QUÉBEC, a Bylaws change was adopted March 1, 2019, allowing the regrouping of the members from the Laurentien and Pontiac Clubs with the Howick-Huntingdon Club. Board members decided to elect Ms. Caroline Couture (Du Petit Lac) as President. Ms. Jessie Rioux (Plein Soleil), rep-resentative from the Est du Québec et Bas-St-Laurent Club, will be acting as Vice-President and assisted by Mr.

Jacques Daoust (St-Clément), from the Howick-Huntingdon Club, and Mr. Mario Lacerte (Marilie), from the Rive-Nord Club. Mr. Claude Larocque (Laroc), representing the Bedford-St-Hyacinthe Club, and Mr. Steve Lacroix (Bellevue du Lac), from the des Appalaches Club, will be completing the leadership team, each undertaking their first mandate. Following Mr. Normand Lapointe’s decision, the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean position is now available. Two resolu-tions were approved by the members and passed on to Ayrshire Canada. The first one was addressed to the Toronto Royal Winter Fair for the purpose of improving services offered to exhibitors, while the second one was addressed to milk recording agencies and aimed to improve the data collection services. ■

and she went to the Royal several times.

She may not have been our highest producer or our most famous show cow but every once in awhile a cow comes along that is special. We miss her when we go to

the barn but her daughters will carry on her success.

Flicker nous a procuré plusieurs succès aux expositions, elle faisait partie de notre exhibit à la World Dairy Expo

en 2016 et elle est allée plusieurs fois à la Royale.

Elle ne fut peut-être pas notre plus grande productrice ou la plus célèbre de nos vaches d’expos mais elle est tout de même devenue avec le temps une vache spéciale. Elle nous manque quand nous
