The new paradigm of access to the network: Mobility and the IoT

In the year 2020, there will be more than 21

billion devices connected to the network:

printers, cameras, intelligent lighting, tablets,

mobiles, PCs, plus the millions of sensors of all

types that will also be connected.

It is estimated that only between 30% and 40% of

the devices that connect to a business network

do so through a cable, the rest do it wirelessly.

Therefore, we must be able to control who, what

and from where they connect to our business

network and to define what access policies we

want to apply in each scenario in the simplest

and most granular way possible.

IT departments must provide connectivity, both

to users and to devices, but always with the

necessary security, and they must ensure:

• To always have the devices connected to

the network identified.

• To implement comprehensive policies for all

of the devices connected to the network.

• To protect resources by integrating all of

the security systems implemented on the

network.

Today’s access security solutions should

include profile definition, policy enforcement,

guest access, and incorporation of BYOD (Bring

Your Own Device) among other features, so

that the IT department can be liberated and

strengthened against threats and for the user

experience to be improved.

Main objective

• To detect devices that do not comply with

the rules established by the IT department

before allowing them access to the network.

New Paradigm of Accessto the Network

Mobility and the Internet of Things (IoT) are changing the way in which networks should be managed. It is essential to be able to control who and what device connects to our network if we want to maintain the desired level of security.“

DESIGNERS & ENGINEERS

All companies should be prepared to address the challenges, both existing and unforeseen, that

networks and the sheer number of devices and users to be connected entails. The IT department

will not be able to provide the required quality to all users who decide to work remotely or who

decide to work with a tablet or smartphone. Network Access Control (NAC) is no longer used solely

for evaluations of devices known to the network before they access, but also serves to control the

access of strangers.

In this new scenario, if the wireless network is considered mission critical, the ClearPass solution

is considered even more important to make network operations more efficient.
