Despite all the highs and benefits of the role I wouldn’t want to be an elite football coach. I

think it would just be too frustrating watching from the sidelines as the action takes place on

the field. In those crucial moments in the game when it comes down to the wire, the result

would be in someone else’s hands. Despite any influence I’ve had through training,

preparation and off the field decision making, I’d have to rely on the efforts of others. I

wouldn’t be in control.

Lack of control is something that I’m slowly coming to grips with as life teaches me through

experience. Despite how hard I try to convince myself, there is an enormous amount of life

that happens that I don’t have control over. The decisions my sons make, the way others

drive, the words and actions others choose, the weather, the stock market, government

policy are all ultimately out of my control. I control my choices but not those of others, even

my own children.

I think I’m most stressed and anxious when I’m trying hard to control that which is out of my

control. I know I’m most calm when I accept and understand what I control and what I

need to accept as out of my control.

In Philippians 4:6 I read Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and

petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.

This tells me that the more I look to God, rely on him and acknowledge him the greater

peace I will have in my life. God wants me to plan and prepare and make wise decision

but I know first and foremost I need to rely on God and not my own strength and wisdom.

When I’m able to accept and let God be in control it frees me to trust that he will sustain me

in any circumstance I find myself in.

If you’re struggling to control life around - let go and trust God to have it all covered and

feel the peace he promises.

‘9 Ways to a resilient child’- Parents in Education Week 2017 at St Mark’s.

An invitation is extended for parents to come along to St Mark’s on Thursday 21st September

and view the live session ‘9 Ways to a resilient child’ that is being held at the Adelaide

Entertainment Centre as part of Parents in Education week. The week is a cross sector event

that promotes and highlights the importance of parents being engaged in their child’s

learning and education and to provide practical advice for parents on how to support their

child’s learning.

Over three nights a program of keynote speakers will be held at the Adelaide Entertainment

Centre as outlined in the flier in today’s newsletter.

Please register your interest in attending by returning the RSVP slip to the office. Light

refreshments will be served.

To support forward planning, I have provided our 2018 school term dates. Where ever possible

please avoid holidays during the school terms.

Term One

Monday 29th January 2018 - First day of school for students in Years 1 to 6.

Tuesday 30th January - First day of school for Foundation students.

Friday 13th April - Last day of Term 1.

Term Two

Monday 30th April to Friday 29th June

Please note three week term break Monday 2nd July to Friday 20th July.

Term Three

Monday 23rd July to Friday 28th September

Term Four

Monday 15th October to Wednesday 12th December.

Further information about all of these events as well as many others will be communicated through the

school newsletter.

SAVE THE DATE—WEDNESDAY, 13TH DECEMBER 2017

Whole school closing service on Wednesday 13th December at 7 pm at Inbarendi,

Cornerstone College. All students from Foundation to Year 6 are required to attend

the service. Please mark this important and significant St Mark’s community event on

your calendars.

Cross Country 2017

Parents and friends are invited to the 2017 St Mark’s Cross Country to be held at Keith Stephenson Park

this FRIDAY THE 8TH OF SEPTEMBER (WEEK 7). Students will be required to wear HOUSE COLOURED polo

tops. They wear their sports uniform and polo top to school for the day. All students will be walking with

their class, supervised by staff, to the park at approximately 10:50am. We cross Adelaide road using the

underpass by the creek. Once students arrive, they will be seated in their house areas. Races will com-

mence shortly after this in the following order:

1st Race - Yr 2/3

2nd Race - FOUNDATION/ Yr 1

3rd Race - Yr 4/5

4th Race - Yr 6

At this stage we plan to go ahead, however, we are in discussion with the Mount Barker Council about

weather and track conditions and if anything changes we will let the school community know by Thurs-

day afternoon

On the day, parents are asked to stay in the designated viewing area near the finish line or elsewhere

around the track. Please ensure that you do not interrupt the counting of places at the finish line, as this

is a very busy time for teachers. We hope to see you there in your house colours to support your team!

Students will need a drink bottle to take to the Cross Country track.

It is recommended that students have PE pants and jumper to stay warm prior to/and following their

event.

No hairspray, zinc, ribbons etc.

2017 Junior Primary Concert

Eddie the Penguin - Saves the World!

Eddie the Penguin decided that he and his family should go on a journey

to find a new home. He gathered everyone around him and they all

agreed with Eddie that they would have to travel right to the other side of

the world.

Where will Eddie and his family go? To find out, please join us for the Junior

Primary Concert 2017!

The Band, Foundation S, 1M, 2L, 3S & 4B (Group 1) will perform on

Wednesday September 27th while Choir, Foundation H, 1UM, 2S, 3SM & 4K

(Group 2) will perform on Thursday September 28th. Both performances are

scheduled to begin at 7:00pm. A matinee performance is also scheduled

for Wednesday September 27th at 9:30am for Group 1 and 11:30am for

Group 2.

The students and staff look forward to presenting ‘Eddie The Penguin

MIXED UP SNEAKERS

Could you please check your child/rens sneakers and ensure you have two matching sizes. We have a

student who has some how ended up with one size 1 sneaker and one size 4 sneaker. His is the size 1!!!

Please contact the Front Office if you know of it’s whereabouts.

Hallo aus dem deutschen Klassenzimmer,

It is incredible that over half of Term 3 has already gone by in what feels like the blink of an eye.

It has certainly been wonderful to see the students again after being on maternity leave and to

be greeted in such special ways by all of them. We have certainly been busy getting straight

back into our learning of German. Every week all the classes are given a short phrase, sentence

and they are encouraged to use it and take a copy of the word home. I invite you also to find

out what the word/ sentence of the week is and perhaps use it too.

During lesson time the Foundation students have been busy unpacking the German alphabet,

while the Year 1 students are practising to say simple, basic sentences in German using our Ger-

man hand puppet ‘Knacks’. The Year 2 students are busy creating a simple, interactive book

about their families using the iPads, while the Year 3 students have dived into the enchanting

world of German fairy tales. Our Year 4 students have been busy rehearsing, practising and per-

fecting their item for the junior primary school concert which will show cast their German learn-

ing at the end of the term. The Year 5 students have been engaging in German music making

first attempts to write their own simple songs. And in the Year 6 classroom, the students have

been busy creating their own German cooking show; LECKER, LECKER.

The Cornerstone Year 10 music class formed a band to tour the Lutheran schools of the

Adelaide Hills. They performed their favourite jazz and pop songs to St Mark's students on

Tuesday 29th August. St Mark's students were entertained, educated and inspired by the

talents of these students, some of whom were old scholars at our school.

If anyone is interested in helping out with the organisation of the Quiz

Night, or would like to come along to a P & F meeting to share your

ideas, you are most welcome! Our next meeting will be on

Wednesday 13th September at 7pm, with a Fete meeting afterwards.

WALL OF HANDS FUNDRAISER

We have made quite a lot of progress with our fundraiser. Jack Virieux came up with the awesome idea of a lucky

dip to raise money. We were doing so many different craft projects and it was a great way to include everyone’s

hard work. So keep an eye out-we will have the lucky dip out in the OSHC/Music room every day and it may

make an appearance in the front office from time to time. We ask for a gold coin donation and you can take your

pick of any colourfully wrapped gift from the box.

SPRING HOLIDAY CLUB

The holiday bookings are now open for Spring Holiday Club. We will be venturing to Wallis cinema in Mount

Barker for the first time to see Captain Underpants and also to the Hahndorf Farm Barn again (with better weather

we hope). There is a program for Spring holidays attached for more information.

These holidays will be run by myself (Sam) in the mornings until 1pm and Jess in the afternoons until close- So

there will be a familiar face the entire day for the kids.
