The intent of this portfolio is to showcase my development of undergraduate work at Clemson University. Since entering the program, I have developed a design concept to impact the immediate environment and the surroundings. Designing with the understanding of natural elements, one can begin to create and design with a concept of sustainability and the connections it creates within the site or within itself. The projects in this portfolio create interconnectedness within the building itself or directly address the environmental surrounding.

inter[connect]ivityfall 2010 | Professor Robert Hogan sustainable boarding schoolport au prince, haitipartner | Kenion Kistler
Interconnectivity is a sustainable boarding school for girls located in Haiti. With the use of natural ventilation, water collection processes, and solar panels, we were able to take the building completely off the electrical grid.

The design concept here was to create a family connectivity through the spaces and activities within the school, while including the Haitian culture. The use of the natural climate, natural sunlight, sea breezes and rain, help make this a sustainable living environment for all of the inhabitants.

Connecting.anderson is a project that pertained to the everyday use of trains for commuters. Offers an open setting for easy passage through the building to the other side and also a rental space in the ‘tower’ for office work.

This new train station in the heart of downtown Anderson, South Carolina is not only just a train station but a multi-use facility. The design of the building was to use natural ventilation through the building and sunlight to light the enclosed parts of the building. platform

REdesign|astrofall 2011 | Professor Kevin Hyslopthe astro theaterclemson, south carolina
The Astro project is an adaptive reuse initiative of the existing site of the Astro Theater in downtown Clemson. While using the existing site and some existing structure, the new building harnesses some natural light and offers a new multi-use venue for the citizens and students in Clemson.
21
22
A defining element was generated through the design of the structure which gave the buildings its shape. With the same structure repeated throughout, the program was dictated through the bays that were created.

The design of the building was split into two separate venues, a restaurant and theater. This allows for the building to not only be used during performances but a place for people to eat and gather when there is not a performance.

Campus Café is a project that makes use of the unused space underneath the library bridge on Clemson University. The Café would allow for a new gathering space for students and offer another place to eat.
27
28
Connecting the center of the campus to the outer parts was important in this design. The library was the center point and a cafe added to the front provided the best connecting and gathering space for students.

Vertical circulation was important to keep separate the general public and the tenants of the building. The raised living area, served as protection from the general public, but also offered a beautiful view above the freeway into the Genova harbor.

Nestled between the walls of the old city and the modern infrastructure that runs parallel to it, the narrow urban site acts as a link between the two opposing urban typologies. We created a structure that not only houses the students but also provides a smooth connection from existing city walls down to the street level below.

For this football practice facility, I wanted to create a large functional building with a concept of sustainability pushing the design. The roof is a double skinned roof allowing for air that flows across the site to cool thebuilding during the summer months.
