Welcome to The Oxford Academy

At The Oxford Academy we never forget that parents entrust us with one of the most important and rewarding jobs in the world, the education of their children. For us, that means unlocking the potential within every child in ways that ultimately make them happy, confident and competent young adults.

I hope our prospectus will provide you with a brief insight into some of the excellent work we are doing in teaching and learning in order to provide an excellent education for students who attend The Oxford Academy.

Standards are very important to us and we are extremely proud of the many achievements of students and staff at the Academy.

We aim to excite young people about their learning and to celebrate their successes. Our staff have a passionate commitment to inspire through excellent teaching. We welcome students of all abilities who are taught in both mixed ability and set groups.

Our supportive approach enables everyone to develop the skills

and knowledge required to be responsible and considerate individuals suited to the demands of our ever-changing multicultural society. There is extensive monitoring of students’ progress and regular contact with parents. We place a high emphasis on positive behaviour which ensures the Academy is a happy and safe place within which to learn.

Our Academy boasts some excellent innovative educational facilities. The building was designed in partnership with students, parents, carers, local residents and our stakeholders to ensure it can be used as a community resource for the local area for many years to come.

Academic Life

Education is about much more than examination

results. We encourage a love of learning, broadening

horizons and inspiring a sense of wonder and an

appreciation of the world around us.

Students at The Oxford Academy will be encouraged to

develop the skills important for life in the 21st Century

such as having confidence in their own abilities,

learning to question, assess and think independently.

We inspire them to develop curiosity, ambition, a sense

of adventure, to identify their own goals and to fulfil

their potential.

The Curriculum

In the first two years students have a broad and

exciting curriculum, exploring new ideas, stimulating

discussion and debate, and laying down good working

habits. This provides the springboard for choice at

GCSE in a wide range of qualifications.

We have numerous transitional activities to ensure that

our youngest students feel settled and confident when

they join. A bespoke literacy and numeracy focus helps

our students to both feel confident and make good

progress. High expectations of both staff and students

are pursued rigorously and achieved successfully by the

consistent approach of a strong team.

Our students are well-behaved, polite and smartly

dressed: they strive to be the very best that they can be.

We believe that the key to success is a close relationship

between school and home, working together to meet

student needs. Parents’ Evenings, progress reports,

regular phone calls home and the opportunity to

arrange informal meetings enable us to work closely

with both students and their families.

Advance Sixth Form has been designed to ensure high

quality exam results, as well as providing additional

opportunities and experiences for students. It will

allow thorough preparation for the next step beyond

sixth form, through the excellent teaching and tutoring

of our very well qualified and experienced staff.

We expect exemplary conduct by every student and

in return, students will be supported, monitored and

encouraged to pursue their aspirations. Academic

progress and success is paramount to us, combined

with a wide range of enrichment activities and

extra curriculum initiatives. The experience will

be challenging but memorable. Students will enjoy

their time here but also contribute to the wider local

community. Our students are role models and young

leaders, who contribute to the collegiate ethos with a

mature and dedicated approach to A-Level study.

In addition, Advance, in partnership with Oxford

United, have designed a new approach to learning,

an approach that sees the pursuit of education and

the pursuit of passion go hand in hand. Individuals

achieving their dreams is at the heart of what we do.

While studying with us, you will develop essential

technical and transferable skills required by employers.

You will have the opportunity to gain vital experience

that will set you above the rest when it comes to

applying for jobs in the future.

Sport at The Oxford Academy

At The Oxford Academy we provide our students with a

wide range of opportunities to enrich their education.

We believe in teaching the value of sport for all and offer

a wide range of activities to suit all abilities and interests.

Our students appreciate the opportunity to enjoy

both lessons and extra-curricular clubs in outstanding

facilities, such as The Dome, Multigym and Dance Studio.

The sporting reputation of The Oxford Academy is

excellent and we take every opportunity to celebrate

the achievements of our students with great pride.

Several of our students have been selected for elite

sporting squads and both our football and futsal teams

are national champions.

We train really hard, have fantastic coaches and get to use our 3G

Football Dome. We have travelled all around the country, played in some top venues and have had

some amazing successes.”

Pastoral Care

We provide caring and responsive pastoral support

which puts our students at the centre. We work in

partnership with parents to help all students develop

positive relationships and prepare for the wider world.

Our students work hard, develop respect for others as

well as themselves and develop responsible behaviour

based on informed decisions. We are very proud of our

pastoral system

The Oxford Academy is committed to safeguarding

and promoting the welfare of children. To achieve our

commitment, we will ensure continuous development

and improvement of robust processes and procedures

that promote a culture of safeguarding amongst our

staff and volunteers.

All concerns are passed to the members of staff who

are trained and part of the “Safeguarding Team” which

is headed up by the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
