The surcharge hike is due to a rise in fuel prices, as the retail price of No. 92 gasoline has risen from 6.47 yuan per liter to 6.59 yuan in Guangdong Province since Nov. 2. Talent fair A TALENT fair, a sideline event of the 19th China Hi- Tech Fair, will be held in the office area of Shenzhen Municipal Hunan Resources and Social Security Bureau on Nov. 16 and 17. The fair will attract more than 60 high-quality enter- prises offering more than 1,000 posts with average annual sala- ries of over 500,000 yuan. The enterprises cover such fields as science information, manufac- turing, new energy, new mate- rials, biomedicine, finance, intelligent manufacturing and high-end service. Mixture smuggling HUANGGANG Customs recently seized 10 million yuan worth of smuggled products, which were mixed with regular products that were declared to customs, recently. The driver, driving a truck with dual license plates for Hong Kong and Guangdong, declared a batch of plastic and rubber products when it entered Huanggang Check- point. However, the system sent out alerts and showed the truck was being monitored. Officers immediately checked the vehicle and found some pangolin scales, perfumes of brands like Dior and Vera Wang, and iPhones. The driver was detained. Road checks SHENZHEN’S traffic police handled a total of 3,749 traf- fic violations in an action in Longgang on Tuesday, and 1,178 motorcycles and e-bikes were impounded. More than 1,000 officers were mobilized, including 410 from other dis- tricts and new areas, to check violations such as illegal tricycle services, e-bikes and motorcycles on roads. TEAMING up with Overseas Chinese Town Holdings Co. (OCT Group), Dapeng New Area is planning to create a national 4A-level scenic spot, covering the national historical site of Dapeng Fortress, the Jiaochangwei beach resort and Dongshan Temple, the Daily Sunshine reported. According to the new area’s culture, sports and tourism bureau, the new tourist attrac- tion, with an area of about 465,000 square meters, will be officially established today, heralding the construction of a national 4A-level scenic spot. “Dapeng New Area is striving to create a demonstration area of all-for-one tourism. The commu- nity residents will also participate in the construction and operation of the tourism area and share the fruits of the new area’s tourism development,” said a spokesman from the bureau. It has been reported that the tourism area, named Dapeng Fortress Tourism Area, will be developed into one of the most diversified tourism resources in Guangdong Province. According to Li Yingchun, deputy general manager of a subsidiary under the OCT Group, the establishment of the area will promote the overall construction and upgrade of Dapeng Fortress, the Jiaochangwei beach resort and Dongshan Temple. At pres- ent, a world cultural heritage town is being planned, which aims to tap into the local culture under the strategic guidance of “culture + tourism + new urban- ization,” said Li. The facelift of the ancient town will not require much demolition or building, nor will it wreak havoc on the original historical and cultural features. The tourism area will be opened to the public May 1 next year. With a history of more than 600 years, Dapeng Fortress was a military base that resisted Japanese pirates on the south- eastern coast of China during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is Shenzhen’s only historical site under State protection and one of the best preserved coastal defense fortresses from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Jiaochangwei is famous for its beautiful coastline, while Dongshan Temple boasts a his- tory of over 600 years. (Zhang Yu) New tourism area set up in Dapeng SHENZHEN No. 2 People’s Hospital has designated a non- parking lane, where vehicles can pick up and drop off people vis- iting the hospital in an efficient manner, to relieve congestion in and around the hospital. To improve the chaotic traffic situation, Shenzhen No. 2 Peo- ple’s Hospital initiated a traffic improvement plan inside the hospital with designated lanes respectively for ambulances, taxis and private cars. In a recent public survey, the hospital was criticized for its poor public transport facilities, service and chaotic traffic organization. As vehicles have to go through the main entrance to leave and enter the hospital and the park- ing spaces inside the hospital are limited, the main entrance is often crowded and congested with a long line. The shortage of pick-up and drop-off locations for taxis and private cars also led to a chaotic traffic situation around the hospital, especially during rush hours. The city’s transport com- mission set up a coordinated mechanism in 2016 to alleviate the chaotic traffic inside and out- side hospitals. Similar measures have proved effective at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital in Futian District and Sun Yat- sen Cardiovascular Hospital and Shenzhen People’s Hospital in Luohu District. Earlier this year, the city’s transport commission, the devel- opment and reform commission and the traffic bureau worked out how to improve traffic at the hos- pital and started a renovation. As a result, the traffic situation has improved over the past weeks, as congestion has been significantly reduced. (Han Ximin) Hospital adopts quick lane to ease congestion TUESDAY was the beginning of the solar term of Lidong accord- ing to the traditional Chinese calendar, which means the beginning of winter. However, the warm weather in the city did not show any signs of winter. Shenzhen is expecting to have a warm winter this year, according to the city’s weather experts. According to the meteoro- logical bureau, the city’s tem- peratures in the next three days will climb slightly to 28 degrees Celsius. There will also be some cloudy weather with showers in the following days. The warm winter is not unique to Shenzhen as many places in northern China also recorded a warm Lidong day Tuesday. The World Meteorological Organization released a report on the same day, indicating that the world’s average temperature from January to September this year had risen by 1.1 degrees Cel- sius from the pre-industrialization period. It has also been pointed out that the five-year period from 2013 to 2017 will be the warmest period worldwide ever recorded. In Shenzhen, although the average temperature over the past five years was hardly higher than the 1998-2002 period, the weather has been getting warmer over the past five years, with 2015 recorded as the warmest year with an average tempera- ture of 23.9 degrees Celsius. Records show that Shenzhen has been getting warmer and warmer, as each of its warmest 10 years occurred after 1990 since 1953 when the city has recorded history of its weather. An expert from the local mete- orological bureau suggested that three main factors might cause the climate to warm. First of all, the whole world is undergoing a warming trend. Human activities and urbanization around the world are also impacting the climate.
