Our project was to create a sustainable account through the Kiva microloan website. We wanted to educate students about microfinance as well as empower them to get involved on a global scale. We encouraged students to donate a
dollar to start the high school’s account. It is our hope that this account will be re-loaned to
many entrepreneurs through Kiva.
The Service group including Caitlin Fox, Kendra Wiley, and Brannon McRae presented to
five BHS classes (100 students) about microloans.
Special Thanks to: Mrs. Campbell Rose’s period ¾
orange class, Mrs. Wagner’s period ¾ orange class, Mr.
Gordon’s period ½ black class, and Mr. Wilson’s service
learning classes.
We have donated $25 to Felicia Ackah, a grocery store owner in Bibiani,
Ghana. She requested a loan of $325.00 to
expand her business to a larger location.
We spent 2 hours in the classroom
educating students about microloans and
microfinance.
200 student contact hours.
We raised $50 and gave $25 to two
different
entrepreneurs.
Impact in one week on www.kiva.org:
$2,368 entrepreneurs received loans
$805,350.00 lent
We donated $25 to Eliza Stivini, a clothes seller in the Tanzanian neighborhood of
Dodoma. She currently earns an average monthly profit of 95 USD. She has asked for
her first loan of $575 to buy more clothing to sell to up her
