I hope you all had a meaningful Passover! I recently had the pleasure of representing CBI at the Union for Reform Judaism’s Scheidt Seminar for Presidents, together with 100 other congregational Presidents from the United States and Canada. While learning with my colleagues at the conference, I
was able to do some teaching as well. Our congregational community is operating efficiently AND growing. CBI is truly a leader not only in the Valley, but within the Reform Movement. It was an honor to represent CBI at the conference,sharing our structure, programs, and sense of spiritual togetherness. I look forward to working together taking CBI to the next level in the months and years to come! For those of you who are celebrating graduations later this month (including our Ma’ayan seniors), Mazel Tov to your families! Our CBI family wishes our young people the very best on the next chapter in life’s journey. L’Shalom,

Brendan Weinberg
will become a Bar
Mitzvah on May 7, 2016.
Brendan is the son of
Suzanne and Andrew Weinberg and the
grandson of the late Bernard Levin and Shirley
Levin and Julius Bowen and Miriam Weinberg
and Helene and Ira Weinberg. Brendan attends
Desert Canyon Middle School and in 7th
grade.
His best subject is Math and his favorite subject
is social studies. His hobbies include school
newspaper, school play and playing football as
well as being an expert at football statistics.
For his mitzvah project, Brendan did research on
pancreatic cancer and ran a 5K race to raise
money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action
Network.
Jamie Abigail Stelnik
Jamie Stelnik will
become a Bat Mitzvah
on May 7, 2016. Jamie
is the daughter of
Michelle and Jeff Stelnik and the
granddaughter of Gina and Mark Stelnik and
Sally and Dr. Larry Leichter. She is the great
granddaughter of Roslyn Stelnik. She has a
younger sister, Ashley. Jamie attends North
Phoenix Preperatory Academy and is in 7th
grade. Her best subject is math and her
favorite subjects are history and math. Her
hobbies include reading, cross country running,
track and field and basketball. For her mitzvah
project, Jamie volunteered at Home Base Youth
Service, cooking and serving dinner and at the
Terraces Reitrement Community helping the
residents during their weekly art class. She also
volunteered at Power Paws, socializing with the
puppies being trained as assistance dogs.
Layla Winter Riskin
Layla Riskin will become a
Bat Mitzvah on May 21,
2016. Layla is the daughter
of Suzanne Riskin and
Robert Riskin and the granddaughter of Nancy
Johnstone and the late Emmaline Johnstone, the
late Donald Johnstone and Ellen and Charles
Riskin. Layla attends Pardes Jewish Day School
and is in 7th
grade. Her best subject is languate
arts and her favorite subject is science. She
enjoys singing, dancing and musical theater. For
her mitzvah project, Layla lifted the spirits of
others by singing and dancing for them.
Jessica Brooke Marmis
Jessica Marmis will become
a Bat Mitzvah on May 21,
2016. Jessica is the daughter
of Jodi and Mike Marmis and
the granddaughter of Pat and Neal Miller and Fern
and Cary Marmis. She has an older brother, Ryan
and a younger sister, Emily. Jessica attends Desert
Canyon and is in 7th
grade. Her best subject is math
and her favorite subject is language arts. She enjoys
dance. For her mitzvah project, Jessica tutored 3rd
graders at Desert Canyon Elementary School.
