Two students from Wauchope High School, Skye Auld and Emily

had been selected as two of the top ten under 16’s volleyball players

Welcome to the next P & C Meeting : 21st October, usually the 3rd Tuesday of the month. Common Room 7pm.

Apex speaks to WHS From the Principal...

Today was a very special day as we

celebrated the end of 13 years of

schooling with the graduating class of

Year 12 2014. Their final assembly was well supported

by family and friends and included a number of heartfelt

and moving speeches by students and teachers as well

as recognition of the significant achievements by a large

number of students over the past 12 months.

I would like to acknowledge the large amount of work

done by staff in making sure that the assembly and

morning tea that followed went smoothly and was a

fitting celebration for students and their families. Thank

you and well done.

In farewelling the 2014 Year 12 cohort we wish them

well for the future and encourage them to aim high,

work hard and never give up on their dreams. We also

hope that they keep in touch with the school over the

coming years and let us know of their achievements and

successes.

During the last two weeks Year 7 spent 4 days out on

year group activities and overall they appeared to have a

great time. We hope that as a year group they have used

these experiences to come closer together as a team

and that the skills learnt and experiences had will build

their resilience and focus for the future.

Our Year 9 students return to school today after the

Year 9 camp to the Gold Coast. I am guessing that there

are a number of tired students and staff after their hec-

tic program of fun and team building. I look forward to

hearing the stories from their week away.

I also need to let all parents and caregivers know that the P&C Uniform shop has new operating hours and these are Monday 8.30 - 9.00 am and Friday 8.30 - 9.00 am. As we move into the school holiday break I would like to thank everyone for their work and support over the past 10 weeks. I encourage everyone to have a relaxing break, however, I do expect those students who still have HSC examinations to sit to use this time wisely in preparing for those examinations. We look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Tuesday 7 Oc-tober. Glen Sawle (Principal)

Apex Club came and spoke at WHS assembly recently,

informing our students about the long running Apex

Speaking Competition for Years 7-12. Heather and

James from Apex would be glad to hear from any stu-

dent who is interested in this competition so ask your

English teacher or Ms Jones for more details.

More last day fun for Year 12– a game of

bubble soccer against the staff!

Congratulations to a former Year 12 Wauchope

High School student who last week was

awarded the Rotary Mid North Coast Police

Officer of the Year, elected by his peers!

Recently WHS Boys and Girls Basketball teams

travelled to Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium to

compete in the Lower North Coast Gala Day.

The girls played Port Macquarie High first, and

whilst they were very competitive against a well-

drilled team, they were defeated 34-7. Maddi

McKenna scored five of the seven points,

including a three-pointer.

The boys also played Port Macquarie in their first

game and were also defeated 31-21. Josh Jones

hit three late three-pointers to even the match up,

whilst Tristian Wright-Scott, Quin Bromfield and

Jarod Thomas played well in defence.

The girls played Kempsey in their second game,

and were able to have a lot of fun, as they

dominated the encounter to run away with a 39-14

victory. Nicara Donovan and Maddi Boxhall led the

scoring, whilst Abbie Watson, Tylah Bloomfield,

Chloe Birdsall and Georgia Williams were all

strong in defence.

The Boys played Bowraville Central and they too

were able to secure a solid 40-18 win. The scoring

was shared evenly, with every player scoring at

least one basket during the game. Tyrell, Blake

Lionel and Ben all enjoyed more opportunities to

demonstrate their skills. Tyrell and Jarod both hit

three-pointers, which impressed the huge crowd in

attendance.

This was a really good day to help these students

to develop their skills in a competitive

environment, and was very enjoyable as they were

all excellent ambassadors for the School.

Thanks Mr Hancock and Mr Starr!

Year 12 Final Assembly

With 56 excellence awards presented and over 20

first in subject, the 2014 Year 12 cohort from

Wauchope High School showed their admiring

families the depth of their educational experience in

today’s finals assembly and roll call.

Thanks to all the sponsors for today’s assembly, in-

cluding the Wauchope Rotary Club, to the families and

carers who have worked hard to help the students

reach the milestone of the Higher School Certificate,

to the amazing input of the Year Advisers Mrs Quee

and Mr Houlahan (acting) and to the talented Mrs Cox

HAVE FUN, MAKE NEW FRIENDS, AND LEARN ABOUT ANOTHER CULTURE !

Volunteer to host an international high school student arriving into Australia in July 2014, and you’ll be amazed at the way this unique and rewarding opportunity helps your family to become closer, to understand themselves better and to see the world in a new light.

Carefully selected students will arrive in July for their 3, 5, or 10

month programs from France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway,

Denmark, Finland, Spain and Colombia. They will live as a local,

attend a local secondary school, arrive with their own spending

money, and comprehensive insurance cover, all arranged by South-

der, the duration and the interests of the student that you feel is the
