Welcome to Harpa

Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre is in the heart of Reykjavík, Iceland. This unique architectural gem is situated on the picturesque Reykjavík harbour in the city centre and features stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the North Atlantic Ocean.

Harpa combines stunning architecture with — state of the art — technology in all areas of functions within the building. Four main halls and several meeting rooms offer some of the most technologically advanced equipment available. Harpa also features spacious reception and exhibition areas that can be used for a variety of happenings.

Harpa offers outstanding facilities for conventions with accompanying trade shows, conferences, meetings, concerts and other cultural events. Harpa's striking facade draws its inspiration from crystallised basalt columns commonly found in Icelandic nature and was designed by Ólafur Elíasson, Henning Larsen Architects and Batteríið Architects.

Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre is an eco-friendly building. It was designed to use mostly natural light through the glass facade which covers three of the four sides, resulting in significant reduction in power consumption.

All those who were chosen to operate within Harpa have sustainability as one of their main goals. Both restaurants and catering services use mainly local produce and follow strict recycling standards.

We look forward to welcoming you in Harpa.

Björtuloft

Björtuloft, meaning bright heights in Icelandic, are, as the name suggests, both bright and roomy. The space is located over two floors – the sixth and seventh floors of Harpa – and is perfect for meetings, receptions and all kinds of gatherings. Ideally, guests can be received on the lower floor and can then move on to a sit-down dinner on the upper floor which seats around 130 people.

Björtuloft is equipped with a screen and meeting equipment and a sound system.

One of the most stunning features of Björtuloft is the balcony which features outstanding views of the city, the harbour and the surrounding ocean and mountains.

Háaloft

Háaloft is a new and elegant hall on the eighth floor of Harpa. With magnificent views to the west, over the harbour and the mountains around the city, Háaloft has been called Reykjavík's – little roof top – venue. The hall is 200 m2 with a large screen.

Conferences, concerts and events

Among the conferences and events that have been held in Harpa since its opening are You Are in Control, Eve Online Fanfest, Poptech, Food and Fun, Reykjavík Fashion Festival, Vest Norden, DesignMarch and several medical conferences.

Harpa has presented musicians and cultural icons such as Björk and Yoko Ono, as part of the Iceland Airwaves annual music festival — and in spring 2013, the Sónar international music festival took place in Harpa for the first time.

Exhibition area

There are many open spaces outside of the halls that are perfect for various events and receptions. We especially recommend the open area on the second floor by the glass facade which features a very high ceiling. Norðurbryggja on the first floor has a splendid view of the harbour, Eyri is located outside of Silfurberg overlooking the Reykjavík harbour and west Reykjavík.

Flói is the largest open space area with a view of the harbour, perfect for larger events or as an exhibition area. Visit us or give us a call to find out which space caters best to your event.

Green policy

Nearly all energy consumed in Icelandic households and businesses comes from clean renewable hydro-electric and geothermal energy sources. Harpa is connected to the Icelandic power grid, which has one of the highest uptimes in the world.

The water used in Harpa comes from water reserves located on the outskirts of Reykjavík. The water is of the highest quality, and no treatment is required before it is distributed to consumers.

The facade is made of glass, resulting in a reduction in lighting cost.

All waste in Harpa is sorted, and all recyclable waste is recycled.

All detergents used in Harpa have the Swan label, a well-known ecolabelling used in the Nordic countries.
