By proclamation of the mayor, it is Professional Engineer Week here in Dallas! On behalf of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, we welcome you to the 2016 Professional Engineers Conference.

This year’s theme is “Innovate. Lead. Change the World.” You will find this theme woven into the two days of continuing education offered during the conference. The conference kicks off on June 22 with the TSPE Annual Membership Meeting and A BIG Texas Welcome Reception that evening.

Attend the opening session on June 23 with Dr. Nancy Currie-Gregg, an engineer and former NASA astronaut who has accrued 1,000 hours in space. On June 24, take part in a hype-free discussion on the deployment of autonomous vehicles by Baruch Feigenbaum, assistant director of transportation policy at the Reason Foundation. The conference closes with a presentation by professional engineer heroes who are changing the world. Between these sessions you will find many other education sessions on ways professional engineers are innovating and leading in their practice. And finally, on June 25, the House of Delegates convenes to consider the future of professional engineering and discuss proposed policy recommendations before we leave the great city of Dallas.

WHEREAS, being a licensed Professional Engineer means a commitment to hold the public’s health, safety, and welfare above all other considerations; and

WHEREAS, the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) were established to create an organization dedicated to protect the public and engineers from unqualified practitioners, build public recognition for the profession, and stand against unethical practices; and

WHEREAS, much has changed since, but NSPE and TSPE’s fundamental commitment to this vision, articulated at its founding remains unchanged; and

WHEREAS, the growth and development of the Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex is made possible through economic prosperity, a vibrant workforce and thoughtful planning and design of city infrastructure by professional engineers to support us; and

WHEREAS, NSPE and TSPE are jointly hosting the Annual Professional Engineers Conference in Dallas with presentations and sessions focused on continuing education, professional development, and promotion of the profession.

NOW, THEREFORE, I MICHAEL S. RAWLINGS, mayor of the City of Dallas, and on behalf of the Dallas City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of June 22 -26, 2016 as:
