WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS
PRELUDE
(we stand)
CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS In the name of the Father, (+) Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)
Amen.
God of grace and mercy, show us your ways and teach us your paths. Lead us in your truth and teach us, for you are the Lord
of our salvation; for whom we wait. (Psalm 25:4-5)
Amen.
If we say we have fellowship with God while we walk in darkness, we do not live according to the truth; but if we walk in
the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all our sin. (1 John 1:6-7)
(silence for reflection and self-examination)
Heavenly Father, have mercy on us according to your steadfast love. According to your abundant mercy,
blot out our transgressions. Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity and cleanse us from our sin. Create in
us a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within us. Cast us not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation, and uphold us with a willing
spirit. Amen. (Psalm 51:1-2, 10-12)
In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you, and for his sake God forgives you all your sins. To
those who believe in Jesus Christ he gives the power of to become children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
GATHERING SONG (Green hymnal) #104 “In the Cross of Christ I Glory”
KYRIE & PRAYER OF THE DAY The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
And also with you.
In peace, let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the church of God, and for the unity of all,
let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
Help, save, comfort and defend us, gracious Lord.
Amen.
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us pray. O Lord God, help us to place our trust in you and nothing else. Mercifully grant that by your power we may
be defended against all adversity and hardship; through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

CHILDREN’S WELCOME SONG “Do Lord” (sung by the congregation) I’ve got a home in Glory Land that outshines the sun,
I’ve got a home in Glory Land that outshines the sun,
I’ve got a home in Glory Land that outshines the sun, way beyond the blue

OLD TESTAMENT READING Genesis 3:1-21 (not printed, but will be shared as a narrative) (we stand)
GOSPEL HYMN (11:00am) (Celebration hymnal) # 310 verse 1 “Lead Me to Calvary” King of my life I crown Thee now, Thine shall the glory be;
Lest I forget Thy thorn-crowned brow, lead me to Calvary.
Lest I forget Gethsemane; Lest I forget Thine agony; Lest I forget Thy love for me, lead me to Calvary
GOSPEL Matthew 4:1-11
The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the 4thchapter.
Glory to you, O Lord. 1Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2And after fasting forty days and forty
nights, he was hungry. 3And the tempter came and said to him, ―If you are the Son of God, command these stones to
become loaves of bread.‖ 4But he answered, ―It is written, ‗Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
comes from the mouth of God.‘‖ 5Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6and
said to him, ―If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, ‗He will command his angels concerning
you,‘ and ‗On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.‘‖ 7Jesus said to him, ―Again it is
written, ‗You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.‘‖ 8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed
him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9And he said to him, ―All these I will give you, if you will fall down and
worship me.‖ 10Then Jesus said to him, ―Be gone, Satan! For it is written, ‗You shall worship the Lord your God and him
only shall you serve.‘‖ 11Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.
The Gospel of the Lord!
Praise to you, O Christ!
(we sit)
SERMON “I Fall to Pieces” Pastor Ken Reed Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in spirit is no deceit. Psalm 32:2
SERMON TEXT (PSALM 32:1-7) 1Happy are they whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sin is put away! 2Happy are they to whom the Lord imputes no guilt,
and in whose spirit there is no guile! 3While I held my tongue, my bones withered away, because of my groaning all day long. 4For your hand was heavy upon me day and night;
my moisture was dried up as in the heat of summer.
5Then I acknowledged my sin to you, and did not conceal my guilt. 6I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.”
Then you forgave me the guilt of my sin.
7Therefore all the faithful will make their prayers to you in time of trouble;
when the great waters overflow, they shall not reach them. 12Lest he be angry and you perish; for his wrath is quickly kindled.
SONG OF THE DAY (Green hymnal) #439 “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”
INTERCESSORY PRAYERS
(after each petition) Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.
O Lord, let your loving kindness descend upon us that, with purified minds, we may sing your praises with the
whole Church on earth and glorify you forever.
Amen.
APOSTLES’ CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it
is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,

The KYRIE: “Lord, Have Mercy”
As we enter the Season of Lent, we will use the Kyrie at the opening of our worship service. The Kyrie is a cry to God for mercy and help. In the Old Testament, God showed himself to Israel as a merciful God, so they cried out to him in temple worship Psalm 6:2. In the Gospels, Jesus has mercy on the sick, the blind and all those who sought his help. Although penitent sinners cry to merciful God for forgiveness (Luke 18:13), the Kryie is more of a cry for help in all our need, earthly and heavenly (Hebrews 4:16). Source: Lutheranism 101
