1 INTRODUCTION

This report captures the results of the test performed for compatibility with the T8 VOLGA DWDM

system and MS-100E-T10 card.

2 PRODUCT & TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

The Volga multiservice DWDM platform family provides increased network flexibility and operational

automation through zero-touch, transparent photonic networking. Photonic networks use simplified and

accelerated operations to transform wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) into true transport

networking with advanced flexibility, performance, automation, and integration.

Volga multiservice DWDM platform family includes the following:

• Universal slot-based shelves:

– Volga V10 Shelf

– Volga V6 Shelf

– Volga V3 Shelf

• Volga V1 Edge device (1 RU)

The Volga V10 Shelf supports:

• 13 full height application cards

• 1 equipment controllers (CU)

• 2 redundant power supplies cards (DC or AC)

• 1 fan tray

The Volga V6 Shelf supports:

• 7 full height application cards

• 1 equipment controllers (CU)

• 2 redundant power supplies cards (DC or AC)

• 1 fan tray

The Volga V3 Shelf supports:

• 3 full height application cards

• 1 equipment controllers (CU)

• 2 redundant power supplies cards (DC or AC)

• 1 fan tray

The Volga V1 Edge device (1 RU) supports:

The testing with Brocade systems was conducted on the Volga V6 Shelf that uses the same software

releases as the other Volga multiservice DWDM platforms.

Volga multiservice platform

The Volga multiservice DWDM platform supports channel speed up to 200 Gbit/s. The Volga chassis can

be installed in 19 or 21 inch telecommunication racks.

Transponders and aggregators from 2,5G to 200G

Optic amplifiers: EDFA, RAMAN and hybrid EDFA+RAMAN

ROADM: WSS 1×1, 1×2, 1×4, 1×9

The Volga multiservice DWDM platform key features

I. Transmission up to 96 DWDM channels of up to 100 Gbit/s each or 48 up to 200Gbit/s. Client

interfaces:

II. Due to using of WSS ROADM 1×2, 1×4, 1×9 and different types of aggregators and path-protection

cards the Volga platform perfectly fits for constructing DWDM networks of different topologies with

1+1 protection, both ring and mesh. High speed optical end electronic switches, powerful digital

signal processor in 100G transponders make possible to build redundant links with very fast

reconfiguration

III. Low-noise erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA), Raman amplifiers (RAMAN) with a power of up

to 33 dBm, remote optically pumped amplifiers (ROPA), hybrid amplifiers EDFA + RAMAN

IV. Enables controlling all nodes at the network map with a color-coded indication. The graphical

framework Fractal and the built-in Web-server significantly simplify operations on remote

configuring of the Volga platform.

V. Doubled power units: DC 36–72 or AC 220 V. Power consumption no more than 1600 W.

Aggregating transponder (muxponder) combines 10×10 Gbit/s client channels and transmits them in a

DWDM channel. The MS-100E-T10 executes 3R regeneration, converts data into the OTN OTU4 format

and uses the powerful Soft-FEC error correction algorithm.

The MS-100E-T10 transfers data at a stabilized according to ITU-T 50 GHz. The laser with a

reconfigurable according to ITU-T 50 GHz enables organizing up to 96 DWDM channels.

3 TEST METHODOLOGY

Begin by identifying the objectives, functionality, and interface requirements of the Device Under Test

(DUT), paying particular attention to the areas that relate directly to its interface with the Brocade

product.

• For a DUT with a Fibre Channel (FC) interface, start by testing a single DUT interface port for correct

and consistent initialization of the port on selected Brocade switches.

• Perform login testing to verify correct speed negotiation, link initialization, fabric login, name server

registration, state change registration, and acknowledgements. Introduce errors, such as cable pulls and

switch resets, during the login.

• Next, perform target discovery and I/O traffic. Introduce errors to test these areas: monitoring of data

corruption, I/O stoppage, and throughput changes.

• Introduce the DUT into a larger configuration consisting of multiple Brocade switches, storage systems,

and host types. Test relevant features and functionality of the DUT and compatibility of the DUT with the

Brocade product. Add multiple host OS and storage LUNs as appropriate.

Introduce errors, such as Inter-Switch Link (ISL) toggling and principal switch reset, to verify stability of

the DUT.

• Run traffic for longer periods to check consistent I/O throughput and sustainability.

4 CONFIGURATIONS TESTED

The following sections describe and illustrate topologies used in testing.

4.1 Flat-fabric Topologies

Flat-fabric topologies are connected through the DUT using 8GFC. Switches tested should merge into a

single unified fabric.

5 TEST PROCEDURES

5.7 Networked Solutions (including MAN/WAN) Tests.

5.7.1 SAN Extension Tests. VC_RDY MODE.

The test configuration consists of two switches interconnected by the DUT and separated by a long haul

MAN/WAN network.

The long haul network – DWDM 70 km.

Distance (70 km) simulated as a real production scenario.

Host (server Oracle M6-32) and Target (Disk array HP P9500) connect to Brocade DCX 8510. Ports 4/46

and 4/47 Brocade DCX 8510 connect to port Client 4 and port Client 5 MS-100E-T10 card. Ports Line 1

both MS-100E-T10 cards connect to DWDM line 70 km.

5.7.1.1 E-Port Disable/Enable Test

Objective: To verify that the fabric can form correctly over the long distance link when the link port is

disabled and enabled.

Configuration: 1. Configure per diagram as shown in configuration 6.

Test Steps:

1. Execute a command to disable, e.g. portDisable <port#>, an E_Port connecting the two switches.

2. Fabric reconfiguration should result and the switches should be segmented.

3. Verify that the E_Port connection is offline from switch info., e.g. switchShow , on both switches.

5.7.1.2 E-Port Cable Disconnect/Reconnect Test

Objective: To verify that the fabric can form correctly over the long distance link when the link port is

disconnected then reconnected.

Configuration: 1. Configure per diagram as shown in configuration 6.

Test Steps:

1. Disconnect the FC cable from one switch.

2. Fabric reconfiguration should result and the switches should be segmented.

3. Verify that the E_Port connection is offline from switch info., e.g. switchShow on both switches

5.7.1.5 Switch Reboot Test

Objective: To verify that the fabric can form correctly over the long distance link when a switch is reset.

2. Verify that the E_Port connection is offline on the remote switch, e.g. switchShow.

1. Reboot one of the DUT devices via power cycle or management interface.

2. Verify that the E_Port connection is offline on the remote switch, e.g. switchShow.

5.7.1.7 Extended Duration I/O Test (12 h)

Objective: Verify the ability of the DUT to pass fibre channel traffic over an extended time period.

Configuration:

1. Configure per diagram as shown in configuration 6.

2. Clear port statistics counters on the switches prior to testing, e.g. statsclear,

3. Configure Iometer on host to execute sequential writes using a large block size

(e.g., 512k).

Test Steps:

1. Let the I/O run for 12 hours.

2. Record the output for each E_Port interface, e.g. portStatsShow.
