Drie vragen
1.) How did for-profit hospital ownership factually develop, within the context of different Western health care systems?
2.) How can one understand and explain for-profit hospital growth (and decline) over a longer period-of-time? 3.) Why differs the development of the for-profit hospital sector among Western countries?
Voettekst4

4. Waarom zijn er nonprofit ziekenhuizen: a. Gebrek aan contracteerbaarheid b. Behoefte aan vertrouwen c. Hoge transactiekosten bij belanghebbenden

Casus 4: Nederland1900 – 1945: Private patiënten in non-profit ziekenhuizen; verzuiling; vroege toegang dokters tot ziekenhuizen; vroeg poortwachtermodel; grote ziekenhuizen (1918) dominantie onderlinge fondsen door dokters.
1950s/1960s: Kapitaalprobleem ‘ruimhartig’ opgelost: tarifering, kapitaallasten, vergunningen; dominantie non-profit model; incorporatie particuliere verzekeraars; hospitals as physician’s cooperative (Pauly, Redisch, 1973); afgerond met WZV (1970).
1980s/1990s: Priveklinieken kunnen dit model niet zomaar doorbreken.
2000s: ‘race to property-rights’; gereguleerde concurrentie; kapitaallasten.

Fase 1: Rise and decline of proprietary hospital care
Why proprietary hospitals emerged and why market shares differed across countries? Why did proprietary hospital care go into an enduring decline?
Fase 2: Stagnation of the share of proprietary hospital care
Why did the decline of proprietary hospitals ease? Did proprietary hospitals pre-structure a for-profit sector?
Fase 3: Strong for-profit growth
•Why could rapid for-profit growth emerge after enduring proprietary decline?•Why arrived for-profit turtnarounds during different points in time?•Why existed resemblance and difference in for-profit business models?
Voettekst15
