about usPt. Wijaya Karya bitumen, a subsidiary company of WIKA (Wijaya Karya), it is one of the major producers of buton Asphalt (Asbuton), a type of natural asphalt produced in buton Island, Indonesia.

the company’s history began in the dutch colonial era, when a dutch businessman, A. volker was awarded a 30 years Asbuton mining Concession on october 21, 1924. since then, the status and legality of the company as the concession holder has undergone several changes.

As the holder of exploration and exploitation contract for asphalt mining on buton Island, A. volker owned and managed the company until August 19, 1926. From that date to october 21, 1954 the ownership and management of the company was in the hand of a dutch Company, Nv mijnbow En Cultuur maatshapij boeton.

From october 21, 1954 up until may 12, 1961 the company was managed by the bureau of Roads and bridges under the ministry of Public Works, before

the Asphalt state Company (PAN) was established based on the Government Regulation No. 3 of 1961. Whereby the buton asphalt unit was merged into PAN.

Another Government Regulation was issued, numbered 3 of 1984, dated January 30, 1984. In the regulation was stating that PAN being transformed into Limited Liability Company (Persero) and the company became Pt. sarana Karya (Persero) on september 1, 1984.

In december 24, 2013, based on the Government Regulation No. 91 of 2013, all shares of Pt. sarana Karya (Persero) were sold to Pt. Wijaya Karya (Persero) tbk. since december 30, 2013 through the sale and purchase deed (AJb) signed by the ministry of state

Enterprises, Pt. sarana Karya officially became a subsidiary of Pt. Wijaya Karya (Persero) tbk.

through the acquisition, it was planned that the company will be developed to involve in the buton asphalt processing industry by producing high quality buton asphalt that can be used as materials road infrastructure and materials to support other industries.

since the commencement of Asbuton mining operations, the company has evolved and changed several times and the latest being Pt. Wijaya Karya bitumen (WIKA bitumen) formally acknowledge on 7 July 2014.

Indonesian citizen, age 54 years, was born in surabaya, East Java on August 12, 1960, He holds the post as director for operation of the Company since march 13, 2014. He obtained undergraduate degree on Civil Engineering at tecnology Insitute 10 November surabaya in 1984, secured undergraduate degree on management at university of Indonesia, Jakarta in 1998 and obtained his master degree on management from university of Indonesia, Jakarta in 2000.

Indonesia citizen, age 50 years old, was born in sungai Liat, bangka on december 24, 1964, he holds the post as director for Finance and Human Resource of the company since september 5, 2014. For WIKA bitumen, supplying high quality asphalt starts from exploration and exploitation process in its mines. WIKA bitumen owns 2 major mines; Lawele Area, with an area of 100 ha and Pasarwajo Kabungka Area in south East sulawesi, with an area of 38 ha, producing bulk asphalt with each production capacity of 1.2 million tons per year.

Raw materials extracted from our mines will undergo different production process to be able to meet different market demands. those processes are also done in our Lawele and Kabungka Area facilities. to ensure the quality of production process, WIKA bitumen’s mines are equipped with processing facilities, including granular plant, crushing facility, stockpile facility and pilot plant.

WIKA bitumen raw materials products are available to customers in banabungi Port of buton and Nambo Port of Lawele, both in south East sulawesi. Granular products are also available to be procured in both ports and also in tanjung Perak port of surabaya, East Java.

the businesses of pt wika bitumen are categorized in the following areas:

csrWIKA bitumen believes that the company is part of the local community and actively involved in various social responsibility activities in the surroundings of both of its sites. one of the sectors that the company is focusing is in the education sector. the Putra Pasarwajo Foundation Kindergarten has been in operation since 1967 when the company was still known as state’s asphalt company (Perusahaan Aspal Negara). today, the kindergarten has 55 students and 5 teachers. WIKA bitumen continues to support early childhood education through this institution as part of its effort to contribute in the improvement of human resources quality in the area around its sites.

other CsR activities that are directly aim to improve the welfare of the community around our sites are the clean water program and various religious activities including the renovation of several house of worship. Clean water is urgently needed in Pasarwajo since the water supplied by PAm was very limited. therefore WIKA bitumen took the initiative

to carry out the water supply program implemented in the building of clean water facilities in Pasarwajo, buton Island.

As a company that dedicates itself to provide good quality asphalt, WIKA bitumen made sure that the community gets the benefit of the product. the road around Lawele traditional market was developed with asphalt. the road is used and utilized for communities of Nambo Lawele.

In the environment sector, WIKA bitumen contributes in tree planting activities in bitumen Plant area and the construction of roads in banabungi village. the company also provides electricity in Lawele Nambo.

As for the CsR programs related with Labor, Health and safety, WIKA bitumen carried out a program to give guidance to Community Health Post (Posyandu) in Pasarwajo. In this program, the company conducted training to women who are active in local Family Welfare Education (PKK) that enabled them in helping pregnant women and infants. this activity was held once a month and focused on improving the nutrition consumed by infants, toddlers, and pregnant women.

WIKA bitumen also offers partnership with local business entities in various business activities that relates to our production, such as transportation of materials from the mine area to the stockpile, renting equipments, and others.

the company also supports the Workers union by providing facilities for the organization’s activities, and empowering local workforce. About 96% of our workers are from the local community.
