Vellardi was born in 1998 in Bas-sano del Grappa (VI), Italy as an artisan company, which produces optic machines for the panoramic observation with, or without, coin operating system.

Today, with our deep satisfaction, we are present in the main touri-stic Italian towns. In the last few years we have opened to interna-tional markets, especially Europe. We collaborate with the most pre-stigious entities, which manage

the immense artistic and cultural Italian heritage in the main arts towns. You can find our products installed on towers, bell towers, medieval walls, cathedrals, archaeological sites, squares, historical monuments, exhibition areas, medieval sites, villas, castles, areas viewpoint and scenic points.

Vellardi company produces its products in Italy using the most precious and resi-stant materials. The quality of hand made production Made in Italy, united with a long experience in the field of panoramic optics, allows us to project instrumen-ts, which are able to adapt to the most demanding requirements. We make a careful choice of materials as, for instan-ce, the entire structure is realized exclu-sively in stainless steel and projected to resist every attack and the worts wea-ther distress. Only the best lenses are installed on our products as the presti-gious optics from Nikon, historical Japa-nese brand specialized in the production of high-quality camera lenses: waterpro-of nitrogen-filled optics with multi-layer and anti-reflecting coating for clear and well defined image even under poor illu-mination conditions.

Flavio is the founder and C.E.O. of Vellardi,the following interview was made for “Stilé” magazine.

What was the initial force behind this adventure?

Since I was a boy, I was fascinated by the mechanical aspect of photography – he begins -. I loved to discover what was happening behind the camera lens. This passion then became my work, and still today, it distinguishes our com-pany. Today we produce, sell, and rent, panoramic telescopes and binoculars that use tokens or coins. Our machines are all produced in our factory in Bas-sano del Grappa, and use only the best lenses on the market.

What are Vellardi’s strong points?Certainly the attention we pay to our clients stands out. For us, our products are not just visual instruments, but a real means to see the world, to admire its beauty. We accompany clients to help them fall in love with a panoramic view, with a work of art, with a picturesque glimpse of the landscape. Our product then becomes a part of a cognitive process of enormous potential. This knowledge takes us into careful detailing, careful choice of materials and design, paying attention to ergonomics and long lasting wear. Our clientele is both public and private. Our product types can readily adapt both to municipal needs and to those of a single client. We think about things like anti-vandalism characteristics in the first case, and to minimalist design in the second. Vellardi products are installed on panoramic terraces, belvederes, theme parks, towers, castles, restaurants.

You have also been the main players at important cultural events.

We work as the partner and supplier for many types of clients ranging from companies to public spaces, from tourism promotional agencies to mo- vie-makers to advertising agencies and to fashion firms.Brand awareness is the fruit of many years of work and collaboration, sometimes even with famous fashion names and art brands. Many events in recent years with an international resonance have asked for our collaboration. One of these was the Floating Piers by Christo, which brought millions of visitors to the Lake Iseo.

How do you get foreign clients? Our most efficient advertising is our product. Italia, with the rich nature of its artistic he-ritage and its panoramic views and cities, is one of the most sought after tourist desti-nations in the world. Having our products in the most picturesque and exclusive places in Italia, gives us visibility to the point where we are receiving an ever greater number of requests from abroad.

Which projects are you the most proud of?We are very proud, for example, of having placed our products in the cathedrals of Milano and Firenze, which are tourist destinations and pilgrim sites for many believers. But the job that gives us the most pride is the project that we are working on at the moment, and namely the installation of our binoculars in the place which is the symbol of the Great War, the place where many men lie buried, the soldiers who fought along its crest to defend liberty. This is the war memo- rial of Monte Grappa, the altar of our homeland, and our place of birth, for which we feel particular affection.

How do you think Vellardi’s production will develop?

Even though we have our roots solidly planted in the past, we always look to the future. Our R&D investment is presently oriented to understanding how our products, which are deliberately made to be analogical, can integrate with new technologies in the near future and offer the client new suggestions. The area in which our headquarters is located gives us a great stimulus and collaboration with companies who are world leaders in their fields. Synergy with local entrepreneurs helps us to develop with an eye to the future, while still keeping our production Made in Italy.

Born as a laboratory, in the 90s, by a dream of Flavio Vellardi in the first time Vel-lardi was a one man com-pany, that only works with metallic elements, collabo-rating with most of the me-tallurgies companies of the area.

It is only in the late 2004 that Vellardi became what it is today. Thanks to the help of the brother Simone Vellardi that officially starts working with the company, Vellardi improve its work experimenting with optical instruments, putting itself strongly in the market of bi-nocular and telescope.

2005 is the year of birthof Vellardi best seller Bi-nocolo Panoramico. At the beginning the most sought after features were the resi-stance to any type of wea-ther conditions and vanda-lism, because the product was given in comodate and not sold.Later was improved the op-tics and the design of the products.

Nowadays Bincocolo Pano-ramico is still the most wan-ted products of Vellardi.

These years were the tur-ning point of the company,Flavio and Simone was star-ting recived a lot of request from the customers, they understood that the time was great to start selling the products together with the comodate formula.

The first product that they sold was the Bincolo Pano-ramico to the Alps Museum.

Vellardi starts the pro-duction of other 2 products: Attico and Cannochiale Gi-gante.

Duting these years Vellardi start breathing Internatio-nal, beginning a collabora-tion with others european companies and selling the first products outside Italy.

Rome, Florence, Venice, Mi-lan, Naples are only some of the most important cities where Vellardi has his pro-ducts.

The company is able now to satisfy the clients needs worldwide, with products and services that continues the initial value of: customer care and made in italy that was driven the company from the beginning.

Vellardi panoramic binocular endowed with structure completely made of stainless bru-shed steel (on request varnished), anti-vandalism system and aluminium thick white- var-nished head.

Our standard opict is waterproof nitrogen-filled Nikon in order to avoid the clouding of the lens. The lens are also treated to prevent reflections.The entire optic is protected by security filters against vandalism. The binocular is fixed to the floor from the inside in order to avoid possible theft.

The coin-op version either of 1 Euro or of the most impotant international currencies are also available.

Vellardi Telescope endowed with structure completely made of stainless brushed steel, with anti-vandalism system and polished stain-less steel head with anodi-zed aluminium details. Nikon optic 16x60 is waterproof and nitrogen-filled in order to avoid the clouding of the lenses and to allow conti-

nuous outdoor use. The lens are also treated to prevent reflections. The entire op-tic is protected by further anti-vandalism protection lenses. On request the new column adjustable in hight, completely made of stain-less brushed steel with coni-cal base is also available. In this way, every user can ea-

“BEYOND MEDIA festival for architecture and media was an international festival of ar-chitecture video held in Florence, Italy, from 1997 to 2009. It focused on the use of new media in architecture and promoted a debate on this topic, emerging as one of the first and more consistent events worldwide focused on videos made by architects. BEYOND MEDIA was organized by Image as a part of its engagement in promoting architectural culture. Today Image turned the original concept of the festival into some more flexible and sharp forms of intervention which still testify a never-ending passion in research.”
