leading steel Fabrication companies.

‘Anything in steel’ was the maxim coined by him, and has been the guiding principle

since 1987. Under his excellent and innovative leading, Diamond Group is now competing for --

the World’ s No. 1 position in the fabrication industry by providing qualitative service to its

clients.

Presently, the group has state-of- the-art manufacturing facilities spread over 200 acres

with 5 workshop, having a monthly production capacity of 5000 tons and permanent workforce

of around 4500 employees. Major expansions are underway with plans to have automated

machinery installed for streamlined production. The production capacity is estimated to ramp up

to 10,000 tons per month, shortly.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DIAMOND ENGINEERING GROUP:

Processes are in place to meet the following requirements:

Managers and employees are accountable for the HSE performance of the business, the

implementation and communication of the HSEQ Policy, and meeting HSE performance

objectives.

Managers ensure compliance with laws, regulations and permits relating to HSE, which is

maintained across all Diamond Group’s operations.

Inductions addressing relevant HSE objectives, hazards, risks, controls, and behaviour are

conducted for managers, staff and visitors.

Competence-based training programs and assessments are in place for positions where

critical HSE tasks / activities have been identified.

All internal and external complaints related to HSE aspects of the Group's operations are

Diamond Group is headed by Sri. P. mohanraj, a gold medalist in mechanical

Engineering from Anna university- Channai, who has used his eight years of professional

experience working with BHEL to embark upon setting up Indian’s largest Fabrication unit.

Under his excellent and innovative leadership along with his perseverance, Diamond Group is

now competing for the World’s No.1 position in the steel fabrication Industry.

Through out this amazing journey from a taking over a sick unit with around 7 employees

to building a steel fabrication empire of this magnitude in a short span of 25 year, he has always

kept his employees ‘ Welfare uppermost in mind second only to Customer Satisfaction. The fact

1. DIAMOND

Diamond engineering (Chennai) private limited, was established in 1978 and later

transformed to diamond group by P. Mohanraj who took the organization to give it the position

of the world’s n.1 fabricator. As the first company that was formed under the diamond group,

‘diamond engineering’ is the head office for all the other units, the organization is equipped with

the best of technology to support the production facilities and also has a well-qualified team if

expert to run its operation

2. TOPAZ:

Topaz engineering was the first company that was added to the diamond group in 1998.

Located in sholinganallur, Chennai. Topaz engineering is only 500meters from diamond

engineering exclusive for horizontal boring machine x-7100mm, y-3000mm, z-2000mm,

spindle- 160mm make – collet with rotary table10 tons size 1500mm x 1800mm, fully structured

and equipped with 10tons EOT crane capacity

EMARALD unit-1

Emerald Engineering Unit I is a part of the 200 cores Diamond group of Companies,

located at Pudupakkam village which is 33 kilometers away from Chennai. We provide steel

fabrication solutions to industrial leaders in the areas of cement plants, process plants and

petrochemicals. We also provide erection and commissioning services for various plants. The

company was started in the year 2003 with a total area of 5 acres. With the latest and

sophisticated machinery and material handling systems like 15 tons EOT cranes, 15 tons forklifts

we can confidently claim that we deliver the best quality products to our customers

EMERALD UNIT-2

Emerald Engineering Unit II is a part of the 200 cores Diamond group of Companies,

located at Mambakkam village and is 40 kilometres away from Chennai. We cater to industrial

leaders by providing steel fabrication solutions in the areas of cement plants, process plants and

petrochemicals. Erection and commissioning services of various plants are also provided. The

company was started in the year 2004 with a total area of 15 acres. We use complex and

advanced machineries for sand blasting and material handling systems like 15 tons EOT cranes,

15 tons of mobile cranes and 15 tons forklifts to deliver best quality products to our customers.

RUBY

Ruby Engineering is the biggest company under the Diamond Group of companies. The

factory stretches to 60 acres and beyond and is designed to meet world standards. The company

has the best of the latest machineries that are mainly used for sand blasting, painting, packing

and storing.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT:

Production is the process set of activities which included input as raw material,

availability of resource and capacity and the output of finished product

PROCUREMENT OF RAW MATERIALS:

In the diamond engineering groups the raw materials are the essence of the organization

as they always possess efficient raw materials needed for the fabrication purpose they procure

the raw materials from the other basic iron and steel industry in India or in case of urge they

procure the raw materials form the china accordion to the taste and preference of the customers

and according to the materials needed for the production.

CUSTOMERS:

In the diamond engineering the customers play the major role in their production process

here the customers is the person the entire sketch of the plant and give them to the diamond

engineering and then the starts preparing to do the fabrication process.

PURCHASE ORDER:

The customers give the order to the company and sometimes the intermediaries also gives

the order to the company and asks to do the fabrication according to their taste and preference

the purchase order have plenty of conditions applied and the company have to fulfill as those

conditions.

DRAWINGS:

The drawing is the free sketch diagram that have been drawn by the customers which

possess all the details about how and in what method the fabrication have to be done and what all

materials have to be used for the fabrication of the plant. The drawing possesses the code number

for each part of the plant, and has its own kind of metals to be used in a particular place.

MATERIALS FORCASTING:

Once the drawing have been accepted by the company, it first undergo the material

forecasting process it means the company checks whether there is adequate raw materials to

procurement. I.e. how many raw materials are used to produce a particular plant. The materials

forecasting is very beneficial for the company as it totally reduces the wastage of raw materials.

INDENT:

The indent is also a process that is more or less equal to the material forecasting here the

purchase department checks whether the company is capable of doing a particular plant, whether

the company have sufficient raw materials and machineries to start a project is being ordered by

the customers. Analyzing all these intend factors is also very important.

APPROVAL:

After the material forecasting and the intend process. The approval of the projects which

means the company accepts to the terms and conditions of the customer’s order. Once the

approval is made the fabrication process is started by the company.

MATERIAL PLANNING:

There is a separate department called material planning department where the company

plans for how many materials needed to do the ordered plant and how many labors needed to do

it within a particular prescribed time.

PURCHASE DEPARTMENT:

Now finally the process moves on to the purchase department where it has to keep all the

accurate records of the purchase and usage of the

Raw materials and should have an idea of the storage of the raw materials have been

allocated in each department:

STORE KEEPING:

The diamond engineering do not follow any special store keeping process they have a

basic terms of storing the raw materials in a particular place and to maintain then and to release

the raw materials to the department which is in need of a particular material. Here the store

keeping is the common process and not given any importance now they have been planned to

keep a separate department for store keeping with new technology which will be done in a few

years.

After the procurement is done the purchase department issues the raw materials equally to

each department according to their needs i.e. the size of the plant. Each department will be issued

with the raw materials and drawing on which the fabrication has to be done, in case if department

have completely used the raw materials they will be provided with the materials from the

department which is performing slowly.

INTERNAL QUALITY CONTROL:

After the raw materials equally to each department according to their needs i.e. the size of

After the raw materials are being issued and the departments is started doing their

fabrication process s, now comes the quality control this departments checks over being done

and cracks. The QC checks even a small mistake and will order the particular department to

rectify it. The QC finds the problem not being rectified the process will not be moved to the next

step.

PRODUCTION PROCESS:

The fundamental production done here is steel fabrication which consists of the following

process.

WELDING:

Welding is a core activity in the fabrication; it is to prepare joints of connection on plants

and for the attachment of other fixtures and fittings... here the welding is done with lots of safety

measures. There are different techniques used for welding process they are

SWAC (Shielded Design Arc Welding)

TIG(Tongues tone Inert Gas)

SAW (Submerged Arc Welding )

FCAW (Flex Code Arc Welding)

GAS CUTTING:

Gas cutting is one of the most popular methods of cutting steel, especially sheet metal.

Using this method it is possible to cut sheet metal with thickness from few millimeters to few

meters. The process of gas cutting involves the burning of metal in oxygen and throwing out the

burnt by product from the cut slit. Gas cutting may be conducted using a manual torch or

advanced numerically controlled machines (CNC). Here, at DECPL, we’re using first class

CNC machines. Here the gas is kept in a separate place where only the labors are allowed it is

the one of the important process of fabrication.

MINING & DRILLING:

The DIAMOND ENGINEERING supports the mining & drilling industries through

provision of a wide range of steel fabrication services, there are many new equipment for the

mining purpose used by this company they have a separate department for mining.

Drilling is another process of fabrication of steel it drills and put holes and shape the

product

for the screw and bolting purpose.

ASSEMBLING:

After each department performs their works all the separate plants are joint together and are

assembled to be made as a major plant, the project done by each department should fit each other

during assembling.

EXTERNAL QUALITY CONTROL

The external quality control is the person of the other company who comes to inspection to

the manufacturing company to check the documentation before the dispatch. The documentation

has to fulfill external quality control or he will refuse to accept the project he checks whether all

the plants are being done correctly or not.

\PAINTING PACKAGING AND DISPATCH:

These three processes are done by the RUBY engineering the other unit of the diamond

engineering. Here the plant after the QC inspection is over and approved. The plant is being

painted according to the customer’s preference and then it is packed.
