Wednesday PHONICS

READING

Read a book with a parent/carer. Look for these sight words… the, can, see, I, look, here.

WRITING

Make your own sight word book called “We went to…”. Make a title page for your story. Don’t forget to add illustrations that match your sentences.

PHONICS

Choose a letter and design a party with things that begin with that letter. (i.e. S – Sausage sizzle, sauce, salsa, singing, seashells). Draw a picture of your party. Can you label your pictures?

If you can, send a photo of the picture to your teacher.

NUMBER: 7/ 8 Warm Up – More or Less. Get a deck of cards. Remove picture cards. Place the pile in the centre and with a sibling or parent, turn over one card each from the pile. Whoever has the higher number wins the round.

Practise counting to 30

Number Hunt – Find 3 cans/ packets of food in your pantry. Count the number of letters in the name of each item. Which item has the least amount of letters?

Represent the number 7 (17) in 4 different ways using the template as an example.

Bounce a ball 8 (or 18) times. Throw it to a parent or sibling 8 (18) times.

Count how many spoons you have in your cutlery drawer. Do you have more spoons or more forks?

Place 8 (18) coloured pegs on a piece of

card. Can you use a different colour to show more than 8 (18)? Less than 8 (18)?

Draw a continuous line with loops and

overlaps then shade the closed areas. You could also do this on the computer using the Paint program. For example:

SCIENCE – OBJECTS/MATERIALS/PROPERTIES

Revise what material objects are made from and what the properties of those materials are.

Focus on the properties of waterproof (the water just slides off, water doesn’t sink in), flexible (the shape of the object can change without breaking it, bendy), and durable (lasts a long time, can handle being treated roughly).

Find some objects around home to show these different properties e.g. plastic bottle, straw, paper, fabric, leaves, stick, aluminium foil, soft toys, etc. Test them to see if they are waterproof, flexible and durable.

Practise counting to 30

Make a poster of the number 8 – represent the number in as many ways as you can

Write the number 8 on your driveway using chalk or water and a paintbrush as many times as you can.

Pour a small amount of Lego into a bowl. Count out 8 (18) pieces. Put them back in the bowl counting backwards from 8 (18).

Explain the concept of open and closed shapes. Think of a line is a ‘fence’. Ask your child to draw a long loopy line, then identify which places would be best to place animals to ensure they could not wander away. Any spaces that enclose the animals securely are closed shapes, and any that do not are open shapes. For example:

Find information about your favourite animal. Tell your family three things you have learnt about this animal.

WRITING

Can you write your animal’s name in lowercase and capitals? Draw a picture of your animal. Can you label their features (i.e. bird – beak, feathers, wing, eye)?

Put your alphabet cards in order. Sing the letter names and sounds.

Practise counting to 30

Go on a shape hunt in your house. Draw three shapes that you find. Ask an adult to help you write the names of the shapes. How many of each shape did you find?

Can you draw a picture using only those shapes?

Draw some looped/overlapping lines on paper, a whiteboard or in the sand. Describe the lines you have drawn (e.g. It is a long, thin, loopy, purple line). Identify the open and closed shapes in their drawing. Now can you erase the open line segments and use your imagination to create a picture (e.g. I can see a plane flying over three lakes.)?

HASS

Do something nice for your mum for Mother’s Day e.g. make her a card, help make her breakfast, tidy your room, etc. (See card template below).

Get mum to tell you her favourite memory of when she was a child.

Find out one of her favourite memories of you when you were a baby/toddler.

Additional Information: ENGLISH: If you have limited access to children’s stories there is a great variety of read aloud stories available YouTube. For example: The Very Hungry Bear

series, Pig the Pug series, and traditional fairy tales. If your child has access to a computer or tablet there are a variety of both free and paid online

programs for teacher reading. These include.

Reading Eggs, Teach your monster to read, Little Learners Love Literacy App (Level 1 free), Decodable readers online.

You can practice sight words using Spelling City. Feel free to write these words on pieces of card at home to play games such as snap, memory or go fish.

MATHS: Every day, you should count as far as you can. Can you count further than yesterday? Each day look at the days of the week – what is the day

today? What was yesterday? What will tomorrow be?

Crab Soccer

This game can be played indoors or out. You will need four markers for goals and a soft ball or a

balloon.

Players must stay in a crab like posture and use their feet to kick the ball into the goal. This game

can include two or more players.

Classic Catches Set two markers 2m apart. Catcher stands

between the markers and the thrower must Underarm throw the ball between the markers.

The catcher may have to move to the side to catch it. Begin using two hands and maybe

challenge yourself and use one hand.

Sock Ball!
