Community HousingCymru

We bring you...

Community Housing Cymru exists to support and promote the work of our members and to speak with one voice on behalf of the sector. Our member offer (hyperlinked) outlines how we will work on your behalf to influence, connect, support and inform so that you can continue to invest in communities and change lives.

As yourMembership Body...Engagement is crucial to our ability to credibly represent your views, co-develop policy solutions, lobby for change and provide services that are relevant and add value to what you do.

Understanding your businesses and the challenges and opportunities you face is central to successful policy development and to make this a success, we need you to actively engage in CHC activity.

There are a number of engagement opportunities available to you, as highlighted in our Member Offer.

These include:

• Face-to-Face• Online• Get Involved

Strategic Delivery GroupsOur delivery groups (See Appendix) will actively support CHC’s lobbying and advocacy work on issues identified by the membership through CHC’s Corporate Plan and help support a strong and resilient sector.

They will have a work plan which is aligned with CHC’s Corporate Plan priorities and will be free of charge for members. They will run from September 2017.

We will use these delivery groups to:

• Test and develop policy ideas. • Identify future risks and opportunities. • Respond to, shape and influence

government and stakeholder policy ideas.

• Horizon scan to proactively identify issues and provide thought leadership.

CHC’s Contact ProgrammeOur contact programme means that each member has a named contact at CHC. The aim of the contact programme is to ensure that you feel involved and are able to influence the strategic direction and activities of CHC.

Leadership Networking EventsOur networking events will provide opportunities to connect leaders in the sector. Building on the success of events in 2016/17, we will be running more pre conference dinners and dinners for chairs and vice chairs including:

• 22nd June Leadership Conference – CEO and Board members dinner

• 15th November - Annual Conference – pre conference dinner

More may be added throughout the year.

Regional Networking EventsOur regional networking events will bring people together to encourage discussion and debate on key topics, to support our work to influence policy and the environment in which housing associations operate and to provide networking opportunities for staff at a local level. We will hold at least two a year in each region.

So far this year, these have included:

• Corporate Governance Roadshows – Cardiff, Ceredigion, Conwy

• Housing Horizons Roadshows – Torfaen, Gwynedd & Denbighshire

• Renting Homes Wales Act – Cardiff & Denbighshire

• Measuring Social Value – Monmouthshire & Powys.

Connecting through our partnershipsWe will be collaborating on your behalf by holding bi-annual meetings with the other federations in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland to shape and influence non-devolved issues such as Welfare Reform and Brexit.

We will also provide networking and learning opportunities through our partnership with the National Homeowners Group. This partnership

will connect our members who provide shared ownership to similar organisations right across the UK.

We will also use our relationships with commercial members to run events on different issues for our members. An example of this was our recent round table ‘tax’ session with Deloitte.

We will...Be enhancing our online offer to connect members in 2017/18. This includes building on the closed Yammer network for members, which already connects nearly 1,000 housing professionals in the sector to share information and best practice.

We have recently set up a new Yammer network specifically for boards where Chairs, Vice Chairs and board members can provide peer to peer support in a closed environment.

We will also be investing in free webinar facilities in 2017/18. The webinars will be used to connect, support, consult and inform on key topics and to help share best practice from inside and outside the sector.

We aim..To run one webinar a month. The content will fall into three categories:

• Updating/information sharing • Consultation • Sharing best practice

GetInvolvedWe will...Provide you with the opportunity to add your voice to our national campaigns, as well as the opportunity to work with us to co-develop policy positions on the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

This will take place via our strategic delivery groups, one off subject specific meetings, workshops and task and finish groups in response to issues you have identified as important through our corporate plan

All members will be invited to participate in these groups. Where membership is limited, CHC will ensure that attendees are representative of the sector as a whole and will seek to involve as many of our members as possibler. Find out more about our approach to shaping and influencing policy
