Please RSVP by Friday 21 October by calling Birkenhead Terminal on 8205 6040.

For more information, you can call Melanie Saliba, Public Affairs Adviser, on 03 9270 3443.

You have probably noticed a bit of a change in appearance at the terminal recently.

It is due to Mobil’s continual investment in improvements aimed at supporting our position as a reliable supplier of high-quality petroleum fuels to South Australia.

“We have a lot of activity at the terminal right now as we focus on ways of improving the logistics of supplying the growing fuel supply market,” said Facilities Coordinator Graeme Brown.

“We have put quite a bit of work into improving the look of the terminal, most notably with improved signage and lighting.

“We have also demolished unused buildings in order to reduce operational complexity and provide us with opportunities to more effectively use the site into the future.

“Our success over many years has been due to our agility – our ability to evolve in response to changes in our fuels market.”

improving the look of the terminal.”

It has been really encouraging to see the Mobil brand return to the retail fuels market in Adelaide.

“There are now three service stations featuring Mobil’s new Synergy forecourt design,” said Australia and New Zealand Customer Support Adviser Con Bratis.

“It ’s a bright, clean new design that will help to enhance the station experience for customers.

“We believe that this new look, coupled with our quality Synergy fuels product suite, will help to draw more customers to the stores.”

These new refurbished Mobil-branded sites, owned and operated by Andrash P/L, are at Crossroads, Elizabeth Downs and Mount Barker.

“It’s a bright, clean new design that will help to enhance the station experience for customers.”

“We invest in education programs that focus on inspiring kids to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”

Mobil brand lights up on SA streets

Mobil is helping to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists by investing $16,000 into local schools and kindergartens.

Through the 2016 Bright Future Grants program, four schools and kindergartens near Mobil Birkenhead Terminal have received grants of up to $4,000 for maths and science resources and projects.

Largs Bay School used its Bright Futures Grant to purchased resources to support STEM learning in the curriculum.

School Deputy Principal Bob Bowden said the students had been getting into the computational thinking using both the Blue Bots and the Lego EV3 educational robotic systems.

“The junior primary classes had been using Blue Bots to navigate mazes and develop computational thinking skills whilst some of the older students had been using Lego EV3s to program robots to achieve a series of space challenges,” he said.

“The EV3 have helped the students develop computational thinking skills and to reinforce the importance of collaborative skills and stretch their problem solving strategies.”

Birkenkead Terminal Manager Wayne Forrow said that scientists and engineers were crucial for addressing the challenges of 21st century life.

“That’s why we invest in education programs that focus on inspiring kids to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” he said.

“From medicine to energy development to computing and engineering, we are supporting the development of a passionate and highly skilled workforce that will help solve problems and create new opportunities into the future.”

Mobil has a long history of supporting local schools and kindergartens. Since the Bright Future Grants program began in 2009, Mobil has provided over $580,000 to local schools and kindergartens in Melbourne and Adelaide to support maths and science education.

The people of BirkenheadMeet Stevan Rosskogler, Inventory Controller

What does your job here at Birkenhead Terminal involve?

When a ship docks and discharges its cargo, I record the inventory and then allocate it to our various customers.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I really enjoy interacting with various work groups. I also enjoy helping people with their computer issues.

Work history prior to this role?

Prior to my role at Birkenhead Terminal, I worked for adhesive manufacturer Ardex Australia, operating a two-tonne industrial blender. Then in February this year I came to Birkenhead. My father also worked at Birkenhead before me.

What did you study?

I did a certificate course in stores and warehousing.

Hobbies?

I enjoy working with computers and cars.

Favourite Movies?

The Cannonball Run (I just recently introduced my teenaged daughter to this ‘80s classic).

Thank you for taking the time to show an interest in our business at the terminal. We have been going through considerable changes here in recent months as we prepare the site for whatever the future holds.

If there was one key ingredient to our successful longevity it would be our ability to embrace change.

We have always been quick to adapt to changes in our marketplace.

The fact is, change is constant in the energy supply business.

But there is one factor of our work that hasn’t changed and that’s our need to maintain open communications with our community.

We have found that our idea of inviting members of the community into the terminal has become quite popular. So we are certainly doing it again this year as part of our annual community meeting on Wednesday 26 October.

One aspect of community engagement we certainly don’t welcome is the increasing use of flying drones near the terminal. These flying devices pose a serious safety risk, so I urge any users in the area to please keep them away.

If you want to know what goes on here at Birkenhead Terminal, I encourage you to come along to the Community Open evening at 5pm and take our tour of the site. We ask that you please come dressed in full length pants, long sleeves and closed shoes in line with health and safety requirements.

Even if you don’t fancy a walking tour of the site, please still come along for our community meeting.

We will have a range of employees on hand to talk to you about the terminal’s operations, safety, environmental initiatives and community engagement.

It also gives us an opportunity to hear what’s on your mind and answer any questions you may have.

We value being an active and engaged member of our local community.

In recent years one way we have signalled our involvement is through our sponsorship of the Semaphore Street Fair in November. We have been sponsoring this festival for nine years now and I am pleased to say that we will be sponsoring it again this year.

I really enjoyed last year’s and I hope to make it along again on Sunday 27 November.

In the meantime I look forward to seeing you at our meeting on 26 October.

“We value being an active and engaged member of our local community.”

At times like this, we encourage anyone from the local community who may be concerned to call us on 8205 6040.

In the event of a large-impact incident, Mobil will use the mass media, such as radio or television news, to communicate important information to the wider community, and may also deliver letters or talk to our closest neighbours who may be affected in person.

Siren Community members should be aware that the siren at the Mobil Birkenhead Terminal is sounded to alert on-site personnel only. People in the community do not need to take action in response to the sounding of this siren.

Please note that the siren is tested every Friday at lunchtime.
