REFLECTION
In the wilderness, outside the gates of Jerusalem, the God-man Jesus Christ bore God’s wrath for the sins of His people, and they will be brought fully into the Promised Land at His return…
The new exodus has come; now we are only waiting for God to lead us into the Promised Land - the new heaven and earth where righteousness dwells. He will be faithful to that promise.
From the Final Exodus, first published in Tabletalk Magazine,

WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 48)
(Leader) Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise.
Within your temple, O God,
we meditate on your unfailing love.
Like your name, O God,
your praise reaches to the ends of the earth;
For this God is our God for ever and ever;
He will be our guide even to the end.

CONFESSION OF SIN (Romans 8:8-18)
(Leader) Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit,
if the Spirit of God lives in you.
(Congregation)
And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,
he does not belong to Christ.
But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin,
yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you,
he who raised Christ from the dead
will also give life to your mortal bodies
through his Spirit, who lives in you.
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation,
but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it.
For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die;
but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body,
you will live,
because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear,
but you received the Spirit of sonship.
And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
Now if we are children, then we are heirs,
heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ,
if indeed we share in his sufferings
in order that we may also share in his glory.
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing
with the glory that will be revealed in us.
Silent prayer, confessing our sin.
The reading of
scripture, which
exposes our sin.

THE LORD ’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON (Ephesians 1:7-8)
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in
accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all
wisdom and understanding.
HYMN OF ASSURANCE (see page 8)
COME BEHOLD THE WONDROUS MYSTERY
DECLARATION OF FAITH THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM
(Leader) Q.1. What is your only comfort in life and in death?
(ALL) A. That I am not my own, but belong
-body and soul, in life and in death—
To my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.
He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,
and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.
He also watches over me in such a way
that not a hair can fall from my head
without the will of my Father in heaven;
in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.
Because I belong to him,
Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life
and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready
from now on to live for him.
We boldly
proclaim what
we believe.
Jesus is good to
lead us from the
sorrow and
shame of our sins
into the security
and joy of His
grace.
