What is DTI?

Sometimes life takes you on a different path, a Detour. The economic collapseof 2008 hit hard, and like a lot of people and businesses I was impacted. In mycase it steered my racing career off course. This event turned out to be just thebeginning of a professional motorsport detour for me. That detour ends now,with an entry in the 2019 Indianapolis 500 event.

Detour To Indy was born after speaking with fellow Las Vegan, and IndyCarteam owner, Sam Schmidt who agreed to make me part of his 2019Indianapolis 500 driver line up, with one proviso, I have to bring together ateam of commercial partners to help fund the project.

The Detour To Indy (DTI) is far more than just an opportunity to race in the2019 Indianapolis 500, it’s a chance to fulfil my life long pursuit of racingexcellence. The Detour To Indy is something for my family, my friends andsupporters who have been behind me since I made this commitment at theyoung age of 10 years old. It’s a culmination of everything up to this point inmy life. It’s not just about the results of a race, it symbolizes and fulfills anemotional and far bigger life story for me, for everyone. Hi, my name is Matt Jaskol, I’m 33 years old and I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sinceas early as I can remember I have been dedicated to everything that I applymyself to, this started at the tender age of 5 with motocross. By the time I was 10I had moved on to four wheels and was racing Go Karts. At this young age I hadalready made the decision, with my family, that motorsport was what I wasgoing to dedicate my life to. I always knew I was going to be a professionalathlete. That dedication and vision took over my life and has led me toexperience some amazing opportunities. I have raced in many countries aroundthe world and I have experienced success, winning many races andchampionships in different forms of car racing.

My ongoing passion and dedication to be an athlete—staying fit, motivated,relevant, and behind the wheel of a race car whenever I can, has led to thismoment. Through the Detour To Indy project I now have the opportunity to racein the world’s greatest motor race: the 2019 Indianapolis 500.

Detour To Indy activities are supported by a comprehensive marketingplan tailored to ensure that our partners’ brands and product/servicemessages reach as broad an audience as possible. Our media campaignactivities are ongoing, and we integrate your specific marketingmessages into this program as soon as we partner and for the duration ofthe partnership.

Traditional Media:

Documentary:

• After filming the revolutionary ABC social experiment tv show’Castaways’, in 2017 the producers showed an interest in Matt’slife story and suggested that they would be interested inproducing a documentary about his story and journey to the2019 Indianapolis 500.

The Verizon IndyCar Series is the premier open-wheel racing series in North America. It offers one of themost diverse and challenging schedules in motorsport, with races held on short ovals, superspeedways,permanent road courses, and temporary street circuits. The world-renowned Indianapolis 500 Mile Raceis the centrepiece of the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule each year.

The Indianapolis 500:

This incredible event is considered the most traditional, historicand significant automobile race in the world. Since 1911 the greatrace has been held on the last weekend in May to coincide withMemorial Day and is the largest one-day sporting event in theworld. One of the most famous traditions is for the winner of theIndianapolis 500 to drink a bottle of milk in victory lane.

Since 1936 the Borg-Warner Trophy has been presented to thewinner of this great event, it is synonymous with top performance,speed, and leading-edge automotive technology.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway:

No other venue on the planet can match the IndianapolisMotor Speedway for its history, spectacle and sheer speed,hallmarks since its earliest days. Even after one hundredraces the Indianapolis 500 remains one of the world’sgreatest races, filling each May with a sense of drama andintrigue.

The first circuit to bear the name ’Speedway’, everythingabout Indianapolis is vast. It has a permanent seatingcapacity estimated at 257,325, with infield seating raising thetotal to an approximate 400,000. This makes by far thehighest-capacity sports venue in the world.

The Team:

Established in 2001 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports (SPM) is located inIndianapolis and currently fields two cars full-time in the IndyCarSeries. SPM is owned by former IndyCar driver Sam Schmidt andbusinessman Ric Peterson.

“I met Sam Schmidt late 1998/early 1999. I had just won my first bigkarting national championship. I was 15 years old and was working asa lead instructor at the Kart racing school in Las Vegas. The track wasowned by Bryan Herta. Sam would come out periodically with hisshifter kart and I would help him, and even coach him a little bit. Webecame friends. When he was racing Indycar at the Las Vegas motorSpeedway in 1999 he invited my father and I out as guests. Wewatched Sam win his very first IndyCar race ever.” - Matt Jaskol

Back Story On Sam Schmidt's Injury.

On January 6, 2000, Sam Schmidt was practicing in an Indycar whenhe was involved in an accident, hitting the wall with tremendousimpact. Sam was airlifted to a local hospital in a critical condition, hewas diagnosed as a quadriplegic. In 2001 just 14 months after theaccident Sam launched his own race team.
