To us, it’s not a direction, it’s a way of life. It’s about being the first. The only. The best. It’s about reaching higher, looking deeper, thinking bigger. Because there’s nothing to gain from dreaming small.
At the University of Maine, you’ll find courses that challenge you, research that will stretch your mind and professors who demand excellence. And you will deliver.
But you’ll also have fun. You’ll make friends for life. You’ll hike and kayak and bike and ski. Or you’ll pursue your own passions.
And when you graduate, as one student says, you’ll still be the same person you are today. Just a better version.
Raise your expectations.
Come up to the University of Maine.

ENGINEERING, PHYSICAL/ NATURAL SCIENCES AND FORESTRY PATHWAYEngineers are changing the world all of the time! Engineers create innovative and practical solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges and work with other smart, inspiring people to invent, design and build things that matter and make a difference. Math and science courses paired with the liberal arts curriculum give you the foundation necessary to successfully advance into your program.
Pine trees cover 90 percent of the state. For the Forestry
programs, Maine (the “Pine Tree State”) literally has the
laboratory at its doorstep.
The College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture is harnessing science and technology for the future. The products of the college’s research and development programs inform decisions on pressing public policy issues, fulfill critical needs of state government, fuel business innovation and economic growth, and promote healthy living and a sustainable environment.
Few fields offer the excitement, challenges and reward as molecular and biomedical sciences. They are the core of modern biology and the foundation of the rapidly growing fields of molecular genetics, biomedical sciences and biotechnology. Advances in these fields are revolutionizing science and our lives.
UMaine molecular and biomedical sciences degree programs
are excellent preparation for entry in medical school and
other health-related advanced degrees.

The Pre-Master’s ProgramThe Pre-Master’s Program (PMP) is for students who have met the academic requirements of the University of Maine, but who need additional English language and academic support to prepare for graduate studies. This one- or two-semester program combines English for academic purposes, study skills for graduate level coursework and orientation into the U.S. university system. Addionally, PMP students take academic, pre-requisite courses that are relevant to their area of study. PMP students receive undergraduate credit for these courses.
Graduate students who meet the appropriate language and academic requirements* are eligible to apply for Direct Entry to any graduate program offered at UMaine. The International Study Center will assist with the application.
GMAT/GRE scores are not required to enter Pre-Master’s Program but strongly encouraged. Official scores will be required prior to full matriculation into a degree program. For the MBA, a minimum score of GMAT 550 is required.

Proven Career SuccessWhat can you do with a UMaine degree?University of Maine alumni have gone on to win the Nobel Peace Prize. The Pulitzer Prize. The Oscar. The Tony. Become a Maine governor. Serve in the U.S. Senate. Write best-selling novels. Play for the National Football League, National Hockey League and Major League Baseball. All of that is awesome. But right about now, in this economy, you’d be happy if you could get a job after graduation. Maybe go on to grad school. Well, you’re in luck:
Last time we checked, 84 percent of recent UMaine graduates had found jobs — 65 percent full time, 19 percent part-time. And 29 percent went on to grad school.
What are they doing?Working in banks, advertising agencies, nonprofits, insurance companies, laboratories and engineering firms. Launching start-up companies. Teaching math to inner-city kids. One of them played Abe Lincoln in a Geico insurance television commercial. Another starred in the touring Broadway production of “Sweeney Todd.”
Alumni have contributed
to building America’s
infrastructure — Hoover Dam,
the Colorado Aqueduct, the
San Francisco Bay Bridge
and many more.
How did UMaine prepare them?Ninety-one percent of recent alumni who are employed in a job related to their degree said UMaine prepared them well for their career. Ninety-four percent of recent alumni enrolled in graduate school said UMaine prepared them well for their advanced degrees.
UMaine Career Center
provides career counseling
support and on-campus
career fairs.
And what is the average salary of recent undergraduate alumni? The typical salary for recent UMaine graduates was $41,400. Oh, and the engineers made around $52,000.
So, what can you do with a UMaine degree?A better question might be: What can’t you do?
Statistics are based on survey responses from Life After UMaine, administered in 2011 by UMaine’s Office of Institutional Studies.
Nine hundred secondary school counselors were surveyed to determine
which schools they believed provide the best opportunity
for success — UMaine was among their TOP 100.

World-Class FacilitiesThe University of Maine is the state’s largest research institution, and our facilities and faculty have an international reputation for excellence. Among the highlights are the Climate Change Institute, which has been featured on “60 Minutes” (American national television show), the Laboratory for Surface Science and Technology, which is a hub for cutting-edge sensor and nanotechnology research, and the Advanced Structures and Composites Center, which is leading the way on offshore wind technology.

The University of Maine is the cultural hub of Eastern Maine.Home to the area’s premier performing arts center and rich resources in visual art, music, dance and theater.
Fogler LibraryMaine’s largest library houses more than 1 million volumes, subscribes to over 4,000 periodicals and serial titles, and serves as a depository for over 2.2 million government documents. In addition, Fogler provides access to countless online resources.
Museums and GalleriesThe Lord Hall Gallery showcases student, faculty and guest artists. The University of Maine Museum of Art displays works from UMaine’s permanent collection — think Warhol and Picasso — along with well-known contemporary artists. The Hudson Museum houses a wealth of antiquities, including a world-class collection of pre-Columbian artifacts.
SustainabilityOfficially, UMaine’s school colors are two shades of blue, but they could be a million shades of green. That’s why UMaine cited as a national leader in sustainability by the Princeton Review. On campus, four buildings are LEED-certified, the national standard for green construction. Students reclaim used bicycles, paint them blue and make them available to check out for a month at a time. Students actively promote sustainability through the Green Campus Initiative and Green Team.
Musical GroupsHere’s something to sing about: there are 15 musical groups on campus — everything from University Singers, an advanced concert choir that tours the Northeast each spring and travels to Europe every four years, to the Pride of Maine Black Bear marching band.

What’s the hottest spot on campus? UMaine’s new $25 million New Balance Student Recreation Center. This spa-like facility boasts enough free weights and cardio equipment so you’ll never have to wait in line.
Here you can work with a personal trainer, play intramural or club sports, join a pickup basketball game and take part in dozens of classes, including yoga, Zumba, kickboxing and spinning. Looking for something a little less intense? Relax in the pool, hot tub or sauna.
The Recreation Center is located right next to DeMeritt Forest’s 24+ km of trails. Strap on your rented skis or snowshoes, and access the trails just a few steps from the back door.
