Pompeu Fabra University is a modern, international public university that has achieved parity with Europe’s top universities in just twenty-five years. UPF’s studies are organized into three closely related areas of knowledge, corresponding to its three campuses in the centre of Barcelona:
- Social and human sciences, on the Ciutadella Campus.- Health and life sciences, on the Mar Campus.- Information and communication technologies and sciences,
on the Poblenou Campus.
The model UPF applies has three cornerstones, namely quality teaching, excellent research and international renown. This model is feasible due to the high level of competitiveness of the University’s lecturers and researchers. UPF’s teaching staff recruitment policy has always been geared to employing top talent from Spain and abroad.
UPF’s marked international profi le stems from its lecturers, most of whom have gained vast experience abroad. This has helped make UPF a multilingual university with three working languages (Catalan, Spanish and English) used in both teaching and research. All of the doctoral programmes and a wide range of master’s degree programmes can be taken either fully or partly in English, while for undergraduate studies English is being phased in gradually. This multilingual environment and a broad and selective network of international partners foster students’ international mobility.

STUDYING AT UPFUPF offers international students a range of study options:
Full official study programmes(bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and doctorates)These studies comprise a full cycle, at the end of which students obtain a bachelor’s degree (three or four years), a master’s degree (one or two years) or a doctorate (three years).
The programmes involved are adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and accredited by external organizations. Each such programme has a workload established in terms of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits and is thus recognized throughout the European Union. A total of 180 or 240 ECTS credits must be earned for a bachelor’s degree (exceptionally, some programmes may involve a higher number of credits, entailing a longer period of study), while 60 or 120 are required for a master’s degree.
UPF offers programmes in Spanish, Catalan and English. Its academic year, which is divided into three terms, begins between mid-September and early October and ends in mid-June.
